A big reversal from last year would be huge.  That or the other cornerback, whoever that will be... And I'm going to assume that's Floyd.

The Penn State Player Who Needs to Step Up is LB Michael Mauti.  Next to it, a picture with a caption about Mauti.  The picture is of...Wisconsin WR David Gilreath, naturally.  Misplaced picture b/c he's the Wisonsin Player Who Needs to Step Up?  Nope, that's LB Mike Taylor.

Player that most needs to step up is Denard. Loving what I'm seeing out of him already, but if he can somehow take his game up to another gear we're in for a great, great season.

Just because you're already one of the best players on the team doesn't mean you can't step up, which is a premise I think this guy is falsely assuming.

I agree, just because someone is already one of the better players on the team that doesn't mean they don't need to get better.  If anything, it's more of a reason for it.  Denard will be the difference this year.  That's not to say that there aren't at least 10 guys who need to "step up" this year, but if Denard can take his game to the next level we will have a dangerous team.

I'm going with Greg Banks as someone who needs to come in and step up.  Yes, he's not rebounding from anything but he has some big shoes to fill.

free safety or deep safety or whatever they are now calling it.

After working so hard to put points up on the board or making stops, it is incredibly deflating to the team when the other team gets an easy score, often due to poor safety play.

With adequate to good free safety play this year, I think an 8- or 9-win season suddenly becomes likely, rather than the ceiling.

Maybe he should have picked a guy that you don't need a media guide to know who he is, I assume this kind of article is written for people less familiar with the programs.

Then again calling this an 'article' seems to be pushing it.

That writer is all the evidence you'll ever need that we do indeed live in an Idiocracy, a valhalla of dumb, where even the most spectacularly stupid have jobs that pay them to write things that exhibit a complete lack of critical thinking skills and a lack of the most rudimentary abilities to do research.

IMO Stonum, Dude has all the talent in the world he just need to get it together and go out and be the next great Michigan receiver.

It is like he took the media guide and randomly put his finger down and then wrote an article about the person.

Two can play this game Mr. Curtis

The player that most needs to step up by using your very scientific process is none other than (insert drum roll) ....... Joe Reynolds Red shirt Freshman WR from Rochester Michigan.

So yeah, step it up Joe, we are all counting on you.

CGordon, TGordon, Floyd, Turner, Ezeh, Mouton, RVB, Lewan, Hyuge, any of the RB options, Stonum, Hemingway, and Denard.

Well done, Mr. Curtis

This is why the Sporting News is TERRIBLE!  Their football coverage is absolutely awful, especially their draft coverage and basically anything to do with player evaluation.

Anyone playing LB would be huge for the defense.  That Sporting News article is a joke.  How you choose a guy switching positions to the opposite side of the ball is mind boggling.  Maybe he thinks Mark Moundros has always played LB.

We need Will Campbell to be a disruptive force, not just a rotation player.  That is the only way I see our defense having any hope of stopping power run games.  Campbell and Martin in there together.

I've felt Mark's needed to step up since he arrived on campus a ballyhooed 5 star recruit...oh wait. I'm going to say any DB not named Woolfolk. I know he's gonna be bringing van-surfing excellence with a cocky sidekick known as "Styles" selling custom T-Wolf Ts.

Field position and all those little 3 pointers could add up to some wins if the back half of the defense doesn't come together...Special teams this year scares the hell out of me...

stonums got all the damn talent in the world if the passing game just developed a little bit. moutons been underachieving since he got here, and the stevie brown of this year, Mike Williams. frankly as bad as he played last year, any effort would be a step up this year

I would have thought they'd choose Rocko Khoury, who they list at left tackle, or maybe Michael Schoenfeld who they think is playing center.  According to them our kickers are Olesnavage and Mesko.

Wish I came up with Valhalla of dumb.

I'll toss in Cameron Gordon.  It's probably unfair to lay that on him, but when most of your 2-deep in the secondary just became of legal drinking age in Ontario, well, free-safety play takes on some importance.
