2010 MGoShirt Alert, Week One

Submitted by Six Zero on

The players are working hard.  The summer is growing old.  There's a slight scent in the air, one of leaves and cider, and of change.  You find yourself tempted, to daydream of tailgates, of afternoons in front of your television, and of the confines of the hallowed stadium itself.  You find yourself dreaming of football.

And your wardrobe seems suddenly... unworthy.

2010 MGoShirt Alert!

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it is my distinct pleasure to formally present the

MGoShirt 2010 Season Line, as designed by yours truly and produced exclusively

by Underground Printing in conjunction with our very own MGoBlog.

As an MGoBlog exclusive, we’ll be officially premiering a series of shirts every Wednesday, allowing all of you maize and blue faithful to get the very first glimpse of these new designs.  And, conveniently enough, the very same shirts will then be available for purchase at the MGoStore.

So enough with the sales pitch—let’s get to the shirts!

MULTIPLE CHOICE

Who gets your vote? Wear your choice with pride...

Forget the ScanTron sheets, forget all of your Calculus tutoring sessions… this is sure to be the most important question that should be in every test on campus this fall.  Who’s going to start?  Here’s your chance to identify your UM quarterback partisanship—feel free to take a Sharpie to the shirt and check the box of your preferred player under center.

DESIGNER INSIDER:  I must admit that I can’t really claim this idea as my own, but I enjoyed running with it.  It’s worth noting that the last player reference was literally created by banging haphazardly on the keyboard with the back of my hand.  Good times!

DEATH ROH

DON'T MESS WITH THE EYEBROWS...

The new hero on the defensive line, young Craig is sure to be a force to be reckoned with on the outside this year.  One of the things I’m looking forward to the most this season is watching that #88 break through the lines and wreak havoc on Big Ten backfields this year.  This shirt was simply a no-brainer, and I’d probably have been neg-banged to Iowa City if we didn’t have a Death Roh shirt this year.

DESIGNER INSIDER:  Two inside tidbits worth revealing:  The typeface of this shirt is literally modeled after the “EVIL DEAD” movie wordmarks, rather fitting.  And, the skull itself is modeled after the very same head bone as seen in the dotted eye of the “Goonies” mark as well.  As for the eyebrows, that’s an absolute original.

GOD OF THUNDER

Welcome to Ann Asgard!

Okay Big Will… you know we’re expecting big things from you when you get your own T-shirt.  Pimpin’ your own killer MGoShirt carries a certain degree of clout, and we feel that you’re capable of carrying the load.  I’d like to find any other D-1 team that boasts its own Thor.

DESIGNER INSIDER:  Thor, Bitches, Thor.  Do we need to say anything more?  I originally played with no cape, but in my opinion it just seals the deal.

Like the shirts?  Not big on waiting?  Well, you’re in luck-- these designs are on on the MGoStore.  Moving forward, the MGoShirt Alert will appear every Wednesday, and the plan is that the shirts featured on subsequent days will be available for purchase the very same day.  Instant MGoGratification, so to speak.  Personally, I’m really excited about finally unveiling them—this is a true sign that the SEASON IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!!

when mgostore is ready for me. Off topic, I have a question about one of your banners. Is the image of the wolverine on the right side of the banner a piece of a larger image? I really like that design with the wings incorporated into the wolverine design, and would like to see that on a shirt.

A long, long time ago when I first started getting comfortable here at MGoBlog, I put up a thread about how we don't have a current logo of a Wolverine and my attempt at the very same.  It actually went through some evolution, one with a closed mouth, one open, and received a healthy bit of well-deserved criticism.

In the end we all agreed that we didn't need that, we were above it.  And another thing that was agreed upon was that any use of the winged helmet motif in the design was an infringement on the University itself and I didn't have the right to include it.  I basically shelved it for years, but I'm sure a few people can remember those posts.

When it came time to knock out a few banners (long story short, I was stuck in an airport because someone's flight was delayed, and made a bet with myself to see how many I could crank out before my battery died), I remembered the wolverine head and just tried to slide him in there.  Sorry, but it will end there-- as far as I can tell it'll never make it onto a shirt.

I don't feel it's appropriate that I appear as one of the choices at QB this year.  Please refrain from using my name in the future,

thanks,

(OK, *sarcasm*, sorry, couldn't resist once I found out I could create the account.  The T-shirts are awesome, and I completely agree with the cape decision)

P.S. and now I have this way cool screen name!

When you say "Ladies and Gentlemen", do you really mean ladies?  I am a faithful mgoshirt purchaser who just happens to be female.  I am really tired of wearing ill-fitting men's shirts and having to sacrifice how I look in order to wear cool shirts-not that it isn't a worthy cause and all.  But since this is America I want to have it all!  I realize this is a bit of a rant but just thought I would throw that out there.  If there is one thing (and really there is only one thing) I miss about Rich Robots it is the female sizing options.

#2 is the best.  The eyebrows make it.

Really?  Am I the only one who thinks that there is nothing sexier than a woman wearing (preferably only) one of my shirts?

Button-down, tee . . . does not matter.  This is a goodness.

Wait, are we talking about outside the home?

I've asked about this before, even went in to UGP to have it custom done. The owner was busy with other people and the girls working there could not comprehend what I was asking at all. Honestly I would buy 4 if men's shirts didn't make me look like I'm wearing pajamas or a dress. Last I heard there should be some on the website by fall? But I heard that a while ago.

I applaud your efforts.  Perhaps persistant bugging could do the trick eventually?  Next time I am in town, since I will invariably end up in that store, I will definitely remember to mention that as well.  The MgoWomen must unite on this I think.  But, yeah, the frumpy looking midsection has got to go!

And we are sorry we haven''t put more styles in American Apparel. The thing is that the same issue you have with basic t-shirts, others have with American apparel - problems with fit. At UGP, we are extremely pro better fitting shirts, and we are working on pushing more of the MGoBlog line to better fitting shirts in general. If you go to the store you will see some of the most popular styles (the ones that wont ever get phased out of the story in all probability) are available in american apparel. However, we just never know how a shirt is going to sell (even if people like it). Some ideas havent sold more than a couple, and we have to keep that in mind. And since first and foremost the goal of the store is to keep it new and fresh with current styles. It really becomes a balancing act - and we are working on the balance.

If anyone has any specific styles they really want to see "turn American Apparel" - please email us [email protected]. We take these requests seriously and they have helped make the decision several times.

This is all of course depending on whether AA can stay in business - cross your fingers: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/american-apparel-seeks-…

These are pretty good but I am looking forward to the next wave of shirts. I mainly like stuff that makes fun of Ohio since I get the most reactions from wearing those (Worst state ever, keep AA clean....)

You want Thor at DT, am I right? Will seemed to have a real sense of humor about the recruiting process, some of which we didn't appreciate - like when he announced he was dropping Michigan from consideration.
