OT: 30 for 30 "Birth of Big Air" on Tonight

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

I know it's early, but I may not be on later, and it has an early start (7 pm), but I wanted to give a heads up that there's an oddly timed 30 for 30 on tonight about BMX star Mat Hoffman.  I know we've had after discussion (that can be done here or in a new thread later...I don't care), and usually it contains a couple "dang, I didn't know that was on..I missed it...will have to check the dvr", and they're oddly scheduled, both new and rerun, so I thought I'd give everyone a heads up, because they haven't promoted this one a whole lot.  Maybe because it's about cycling.  Maybe they're just weird.  They threw that Loyola one on a Saturday on ABC with no fanfare, so I don't know who's figuring out this schedule.  But if you like the series, tune in tonight.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll make sure not to miss this one!

I love 30 for 30, glad to see ESPN doing something right!

Maybe we can get one on Bo vs. Woody!

Go Blue!

Though it does kinda let the surprise out of the bag of the stuff we might have hoped they'd cover.

I'll say on the less interesting stuff coming - "Jordan rides the Bus"...because we haven't hear enough about Jordan, have we? Not one, but two featuring the Yankees (They were doing Steinbrenner BEFORE he died?  And guess who got the Red Sox-Yankees one through...). And I think I liked One Night in Vegas more when it was about soccer in Columbia...or on the rap angle, the LA Raiders, or Miami Hurricanes, or...

Exciting me- Once Brothers...a great story, and anxious to look at it more in-depth. Pony Express - more college football history is always good. And oddly, Unmatched...because their relationship was awfully frosty, and I wonder how much that'll come across on screen.

Sadly, no Michigan stuff (Fab Five had the cultural significance...though I'd rather see a Michigan '97....not that everyone around the country would; but after 4 4-loss seasons, it certainly has the come back nature this thing thrives on, as well as interesting characters.  "Just bring the band". Would have been a nice counterpoint to Miami).

But I'll watch them all anyway.

But I've cluttered the board enough today, so I'll say my peace here, and transfer it over if necessary.

I was kinda way underwhelmed by this one.  I can see why it wasn't highly promoted.  I mean, I'm sure the subject matter didn't help my interest, but I don't think it was a particularly well put together film, either.  The whole idea of this is to take events and sports that you might not have know about or might not interest you, but make it interesting and appealing.  This seemed to consist more of "then he did this...and it was insane...dude!". I cynically have doubts that this would have be chosen to air but for ESPN showing the X-Games.

I would say this would take the LA Raiders spot at the bottom of my 30 for 30s.  YMMV. But as we get closer to the end, ever less spectacular one seems like a lost opportunity for another great story they could cover about something else.
