OT - MLB All Star Game thread
This thread is for MGoBloggers watching tonight's MLB All Star Game. Will the AL continue it's dominant streak? All signs point to yes. For now, tune in for the first pitch at 8:45 on Fox.
EDIT: A few streams for those away from TVs tonight:

-Does Harrison Ford look to anyone else like he was suffering from Bell's palsy or getting over a mild stroke? He was only talking from one side of his mouth.
-Salma Hayek is still hot.
-Matthew McConaughey should never talk. Ever.
-Joe Buck just said "They're just kids playing a kids' game." Does he think every single player in this game is Brett Favre?
-Matthew McConaughey, I hope you get a heart attack
-Salma Hayek: more please
-Really, Fox? Your big song is a Glee cover of a Christina Aguilera song? Did you really have to blatantly advertise one of your shows?
-How bad is the AL gonna pound the NL tonight?
I was just about to say something about how Fox couldn't get anyone better than some Glee cast member to do the anthem, but you're absolutely right. This is exactly what Fox would do- shamelessly plug one of their shows during the game.
9 -5 (and I'm trying to show the Senior Circuit a little respect)
Last night I went apeshit over the pre-Derby concert.
Tonight I have absolutely no concerns regarding the pre-game music. The music tonight actually had something to do with the presentation on the field, which was great.
That Train song before the Derby was terrible, and why was Howie Mandel playing the mandolin? Fox, and every other network, have no clue what good music is. I don't expect indie bands or anything like that, but why must we suffer through girl rock before a man's game? Our wives aren't watching, so why gay it up for the rest of us?
Our wives aren't watching, so why gay it up for the rest of us?
If it's dudes only, no chicks allowed, then they should totally "gay it up," broski.
After all, it is a man's game, with a bunch of ripped men, running around in their manly uniforms, and swinging their giant man poles, while millions of men watch and cheer.
Also, really, "gay it up?" For shame.
Have you heard that song? Its not a song I want to sit and listen to before watching baseball. My girlfriend likes that song, and her taste in music is limited to that type of soft pop rock. Include Plain White T's, and Snow Patrol into that sappy crap.
Broski? GFY.
Hah, chicks man, totally gay. Amirite?
Alright kid, quit with your douchey mocking.
Adults use satire, children refer to things as being "gay."
Please enlighten me more by providing a better explanation of that song. I will refer to it as such.
If you believe that the reason I originally responded to your post was because you trashed some band, then I want you to listen really closely to that sound.
Hear it?
Whoooooshhh!
"Shitty." There's a better explanation.
spells hot in some language, I'm sure.
English.
It could have been worse. It could have been American Idol, complete with Ellen and Simon Cowell in the batters boxes.
$100 says the bottom of the first starts with Joe Buck announcing that Ichiro "fists ones to right for a single"
Also, occasionally between innings there'll be short clips of characters from the Simpsons, Family Guy, House, etc. making snarky comments about the game.
Nah, the FCC would censor that on the grounds that Joe Buck can't say "fists". And shouldn't say anything. Which he rarely does when he broadcasts, so I guess that's ok.
...maybe not.
A federal appeals court on Tuesday knocked down the Federal Communications Commission's indecency policy, saying that the agency's guidelines for fleeting expletives and other indecencies in broadcast were vague and violated the First Amendment.
This is the year of the pitcher and the NL has better pitching this year. Book it
Better pitching, or inferior hitting?
Ubaldo Jiminez
Tim Lincecum
Roy Halladay
Josh Johnson
While the AL does have better hitting, I think that it's pretty clear the NL has better pitching.
But if the AL has superior hitting, how do you know those NL guys aren't padding stats against the patsies in the NL, while the AL pitchers numbers are worse, seeing as they are facing superior hitting?
By that logic, how do you know that the AL hitters aren't beating up on inferior pitching? Look as a whole I think the pitching probably is pretty comparable, but the top of the NL pitching wise is a little better than the top of the AL.
I was just busting your balls.
Should be another exciting and close game.
I was wrong. +1 to you.
Congrats on a nice win. I'm just hoping that the World Series does not play out the same way!
Wow. Rod Carew pumped that ball in there.
"Take Me Out to the Ball Game"
(oh wait, that's scheduled for the seventh inning stretch)
If it's Dianna Agron they can have the 7th and 8th innings as far as I'm concerned
"O.J. Simpson...not a Jew. But guess who is? Hall of Famer Rod Carew..."
Is this game being streamed online anywhere? I don't have a TV...
Buck picks the NL, the Washington Generals and Glass Joe, put your bets down!
May the ghost of Johnny Cash haunt everyone associated with Firestone for the rest of their lives.
My pick is AL, 5-3. Jose Valverde will pitch a 1-2-3 eighth.
ESPN said that Valverde would be the closer since Rivera is injured... which I wasn't aware of
As an NL team fan, who had Valverde on his team during his last stint in the NL, that's the best news I've heard all night.
Thanks, I hadn't seen that info! Valverde for the save!
like he's no good. I like having a closer with a 0.92 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and .125 BAA. And for the career, 2.96 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and .201 BAA. I mean, it's not like he blew a whole boatload of games for Houston.
to mean it was good for the NL if he was in. I could be way off tho. Did you mean that it'd be nice to see him pitch because you liked him in Houston? so confused
Well since Houston has an approximately 0.001 % chance of making the World Series this year, I would assume because he liked him in Houston.
that as soon as I posted my original comment. It seemed a little crazy to me that someone would think it's a good thing to have to come back in a game against Valverde.
formerly is not a fan of Valverde.
except...it doesn't. what gives formerly?
never wears pants when he broadcasts... go back and check it out on YouTube if you don't believe me
Hahahaha this poor girl is so overwhelemed. Clearly reading off a side list.
I just feel bad for the boy, he seems way too young to be doing that. Looked so relieved when he finished.
How many charities are they going to recognize? Is it greater or fewer than the times they'll anounce the starting lineup?
Please - play ball!!!!!!!
I'd love to see Valverde end the game striking out Pujols and dancing off the mound.
No way Pujols would be playing in the ninth. But I'll take a game-ending strikeout of Joey Votto.
