OT- UFC 116 - Lesnar vs. Carwin

Submitted by TheLastHarbaugh on

Are you watching, and who do you have?

Lesnar in 2, via tko punches.

EDIT: Also, how badass is Chris Leben? Just fought two weeks ago and now he's fighting Yoshihiro Akiyama tonight? That's insane.

I hope carwin knocks Lessnar out! If he can jeep it standing carwin will win. It's only when that big hippo lays on top of people he becomes so devistating.

But disagree abt wrestling. Carwin's actually as big or slightly bigger than Lesnar, he walks around at about 300 lbs. Also, not a bad wrestler himself. Two other points: (1) this is probably going to be a quick fight, I think everyone will be surprised if it goes longer than one and a half rounds. (2) for those who don't know, this is Carwin's second job, he's a full time engineer, has his Master's in enviro engineering. So if you're a engineering major or geek who's always wanted an ass-kicking avatar, you know where your loyalty should be.

I'm not taking anything away from carwins wrestling. The guy is a former all American in wrestling and fooball. He is the real deal. Just lessnar is very good at short range blows and controls people very well on the ground. If he gets on top thyself when I will worry but carwin has every tool to tale this fight.

WOW WOW WOW. Sotiropoulos dominated that fight, but he just got saved by the bell. If there was any more time on the clock it looked like Pellegrino was going to end it after that knee. What a start. Excellent fight.

I like that part where he said that he was concious the whole time after basically flipping over following the knee and then getting cracked again. He's lucky there was not another 5 seconds in the round.

As an aside I give him zero chance against the next level of fighter in the division (i.e., Florian, Penn etc.)

It was better in the begining. It was more like WWE but with real fighting. You had all these different characters with different fighting styles and they even had less rules when it first started.

I know what you mean, but I have to disagree. While it was super fun to watch a self-proclaimed Ninja from Texas get his head knocked off by a Mui Thai boxer, I love how the sport has sort of morphed into it's own fighting style where everyone has to be adept at both brawling and grappling to an extent.

Stephan Bonnar vs.Krzysztof Soszynski. I thought this would be the most exciting fight of the night. These two warriors love to stand in there and trade shots. Neither one of them wants to go down. It's going to be a blood bath.

Chris Lytle vs. Matt Brown up next. Who ya got? Lytle in 2 (Going for broke. I know it will probably end in 1 but I'm going against popular thinking). KO.

P.S. Gambling is fun. :)

EDIT: Lights Out by submission. Wow, that was nasty.

There were some good fights on the card, but I don't think any of them were fight of the year material. It's gonna be tough for any fight to beat out the Korean Zombie vs Leonard Garcia.

Also, I think both Carwin and Brocks weaknesses were exposed, it's just hard for anyone else who doesn't have their massive size to expose them. I think Junior dos Santos' all around game will give them problems.

WHat a warrior Lesnar is. The guy almost died last year, comes back, survives that onslaught in the 1st round and wins like that. Just WOW!

There is no way to describe how Unbelievable the fight was. Lesnar got rocked by Carwin in the first and laid on his back the whole first round. Took an inhuman amount of punches to the face. Carwin unloaded on him the entire first round. He absolutely destroyed Lesnar's face. Lesnar somehow survives. Second round...boom Lesnar takedown. Arm triangle. Game over. End of story. UN-BE-LIEVABLE!

I wasn't able to watch the fight tonight due to work and family, but I appreciate the info that was given on all the fights! Much easier and more timely to check here than at other sites!

Looking forward to downloading and watching in the near future (hopefully tomorrow or Monday)!

Happy and safe 4th!

WTF are you talking about?  The above poster was talking about Brock Lesnar's tryout to play defensive tackle for the Minnesota Vikings.

In a comment regarding Lesnar saying that he himself is the "baddest SOB on the planet," it's suddenly not classy to say that Lesnar would have been Hutchinson's "bitch" on the Vikings?  Are you concerned about Lesnar's feelings or something?

Dumb comment by you.

My next day analysis of the Lesnar Carwin fight is that the devil in Lesnar gets his due. It's interesting, in retrospect, to look at the decision Fedor Emelianenko made last year not to join the UFC (various reasons, it seems) and one wonders if he had some idea that competing against 300 lb athletes like Lesnar/Carwin was a bad idea (particularly regarding his then undefeated streak).

The future of the heavyweight division is not likely the smaller athletes like Couture or even a 235 lb. Emelianenko but likely this evolving group of large heavyweights. Aside from all of this...who knew Lesnar had a chin?
