OT- Verizon to offer iPhones in January
According to Marketwatch/Bloomberg:

Have fun AT&T it has been real.
Pure speculation. This has been rumored for a very long time.
If/ when it does happen, don't expect to hear about it until the iPhones are ready to ship.
I don't know... 2 Undisclosed sources... sounds solid...
We all know how accurate they were during Conference Re-alignment week.
I just came from Lifehacker, so when I read this, I was still in that frame of mind and I almost said, "Well, if you were a Michigan fan..."
It only sounds solid if its from insiderz
Chip Brown says the Verizon iPhone assembly factory will be located in Austin. Cell phone part makers located throughout the plain states have agreed to give all their profits to the Austin assembly factory in order to prevent the factory from independently making the parts.
Oh - and UT, Oklahoma, and Texas AM are going to get a bigger share according to orangebloods.com
Marketwatch just sent a blast to their whole email subscription list.
There is more than just this Bloomberg story. Well, one other reliable source. An industry publication in Taiwan -- DigiTimes -- recently reported that a CDMA2000 (i.e., compatible with Verizon's 3G network) iPhone would start shipping from Taiwan to Apple by September and the parts are already being manufactured in China.
Not something I would ever have expected -- I thought they would wait for Verizon to roll out LTE technology in the next few years -- but I guess there is so much money to be made with Verizon right now that Apple is willing to make a phone that is basically just U.S. only.
There were rumors late last year that Apple was going to make a hybrid phone that could do both UMTS and CDMA2000. I guess they could still be doing that -- the end result being that everyone buying an iPhone 4 in the U.S. right now will be stuck with AT&T when their contract runs out, whereas people buying the hybrid iPhone 4 will have a choice.
Here's to hoping its true! I will be eligible for an upgrade in Jan!
chance to fix the issues (yellow scren, poor antenna recepton) with the Iphone 4. Verizon as of now offers a $30.00 unlimited plan, but is making noises that this may not be true in the future.
I assume that you are talking about the data package w/r/t $30.00 unlimited plan?
Data Package.
If that is the case hopefully I'm grandfathered in under my current unlimited data plan.
AT&T grandfathered unlimited people in with their switch, so I'd assume Verizon would do the same.
Am I the Only Verizon customer that likes the Droid series better and would prefer to keep the network destroyer off of big red.
Will bringing the iphone to Verizon limit or hurt the reliability of the Verizon network?
AT&T blames a lot of their network issues on the I-phone and it's users. They use a lot of bandwidth/network and the more everyone uses, the less there is to spread around
Even Steve Jobs, when questioned about the ATT network, Apple's affect on it, and whether Verizon would offer a better experience, said (paraphrasing) "any network that iPhone would have been on would have a similar impact." His position is that it's up to the carriers to respond to the bandwidth challenge of the smartphone future, and it;s hard to disagree with that.
I have an iPhone on Rogers Wireless in Canada. This past year they switched to allowing iPhone on all the cell carriers here and I think it helped a lot. Granted there aren't as many users here as in the States, spreading them out over multiple networks can only help.
Isn't one of the main draws of the iphone the ability to multitask (eg. utilize google maps while on the phone, etc.)? My understanding of the Verizon network is that it does not allow duel useage of data and voice at the same time. Seems like this would be a huge dissapointment for many potential Iphone users. Maybe it's just me.
Multitask is the one thing the iphone can't do anyway, and Google Maps is integrated into the Android platform so...
He's using "multitask" here to refer to simultaneous voice and data (i.e., using the Internet while talking on the phone), which Verizon's 3G network can't do.
But I'd classify that as a "main draw" of AT&T's 3G network, as opposed to the iPhone itself. I mean, AT&T sells Android phones, which I presume can also do it.
I love Android, and I'm not sure how bad the I phone would destroy the VZW network... hopefully AT&T had enough problems in addition to the Iphone...
This is pointless

...I wonder if it will be a full featured iPhone, or an iPhone "lite?"
Verizon won't be able to do simultaneous voice and data, which is unique to UMTS, but I think otherwise the experience will be similar. I've also heard it won't do conference calling, but I'm not sure what that means.
it also depends on whether this will be able to connect to Verizon's nascent 4G LTE network which is based on GMS.
I've been fooled so many times by Iphone to Verizon rumors... I'll believe when I see an official release from Apple or Verizon... having said that, I'm definitely going to take a look at Droid X in a couple of days.
Have you taken a look at HTC incredible? I'm currently trying to decide between the Increible and Droid X.
No I haven't yet, but I've heard good things. I was planning on trying them both after the Droid X comes out. Anybody here have thoughts on the HTC Incredible?
Edit: Link still works, don't know why it's doing that. Sorry.

It is also confirmed that people who placed a pre-order for the incredible will be able to switch their pre-order to the Droid X. HTC Incredible is scheduled to ship July 29 while Droid X is set to release July 15.

I hope this is true. I am eligible for my annual upgrade discount in November. I cannot wait to get rid of my blackberry storm2.
Sorry. AT&T and Apple have an exclusive contract that is for five years. The contract runs through next July. After that, You should get one with all of the carriers. This contract is what got Verision's panties in a bunch.
Won't happen. Verizon is putting their faith in the droid market!!!!!!
Well, book it now guys, we just heard from the most credible source.
While I believe that at some point Verizon, as well as other carriers, will get the iPhone I doubt it happens this soon. I don't htink Verizon gets it until iPhone goes 4G which probably won't be until next June. The reason I say that is both AT&T and Verizon will be using the same type of system (or whatever it is) in 4G whereas right now they are incompatible so if Apple rolls out a Verizon iPhone now it would basically be new.
BTW, I have the new iPhone 4 and while I am not giddy about AT&T I am very giddy about the phone. Most amazing phone I've ever seen or owned.
What its like having the debate between smart phones....
Hopefully by the time it makes it to Verizon the stupid faulty antenna issue is resolved.
