UF Plans Statue for Tebow - Eye Black Design TBD

Submitted by MGoShoe on

My first reaction to this story was to make fun of Florida and the dilemma they have in deciding whether or not to make Tim Tebow's eye black strips historically accurate --- then I realized that they actually have a pretty damn good idea.  It's so good, Michigan should follow suit.

Statues for our three Heisman winners at Michigan Stadium?  Seems like a no brainer.  Statues of Old 98, Desmond and Charles at The Big House?  Oh yes.

Besides, there has already been a successful test run at this year's Spring Game.

Charles Woodson Bobblehead at the Spring Game

Something like this, perhaps?

[Edit: jmblue makes good points about honoring the living and the deceased and the Bo mantra: "The team, the team, the team!"  It seems to me that before statues to players are commissioned, statues to these men should be erected: Yost, Crisler, Schembechler.]

of giving the three Heisman winners there own statue inside the Big House Gates. That will just add to the overall stunning appearance of the greatest athletic playing field in the history of sports.

It obviously doesn't matter whether you believe me, but I clicked reply; so, I might as well communicate my thought.

Before reading your post, I was going to, with barely different words, convey the same thing.

Ugh. This was not a good story. Not at all. Maybe I should add a "LOLZ, BFF" addendum to the story to make it better. Nope. I think that made it worse, actually. Yep. Definitely worse.

I think life-size statues would be the way to go.  I know the "bigger is better" mantra seems to dominate the world of memorializing legends, but it always seems so overdone to me.  I think the legend of all of these men speak for themselves.  As an added bonus, the life-size statues would give me an opportunity to pose for pictures while mocking a hand shake.

statue of Woodson if it was anything other than the MSU pick.  However, the interception he had against MSU is a symbol and perfect representation of that entire season.  Unexpected brilliance.

So to me, that particular statue would be commemorating not just Woodson, but the '97 season.

Maybe Mark Harmon could take a little time off from NCIS and be present for the unveiling of his father's statue.  He could even give RR a few good-natured "tips" on how to beat Nebraska.

...is correct.  They are the sons of Ricky and Kristin (Harmon) Nelson.  Kristin is the daughter of Tom and Elyse (Knox) Harmon and sister of Mark and Kelly.

I think Charles's statue sholud be the one where he's grinning w/ a rose in his teeth the moment after the OSU  game was over

I'm actually slightly amazed there isn't something around the stadium for Desmond's pose. It's been almost 20 years. It'd be fitting to add it now since he was just inducted to the HOF
