in anything.
after the game yesterday, i really thought i'd leave the WC alone for the last 2 weeks. but the match ups are too good today.
Allies V. Axis right now.
God Save the Queen!
notice how many outrageously hot German girls are at this game during the national anthems?
Awake! I mean awake! And watching. It's early Sunday morning...C'mon, get your mind out of the gutter...
(At least they're not playing at 7:30 am anymore...and that's EST...west coast must be rough).
Klose scores his 50th International and 12th FIFA World Cup goal, which ties him with Pele for 4th all time.
Seems like he's bagged about twenty at the World Cup over the years, too.
'Mon the Germans!
Aren't you out in Cali? I'm impressed. On a Sunday morning no less.
Yeah, my internal clock has been re-set for the last few weeks. Haven't made any of the early (4:30 here) games, but I haven't missed too much after that.
Eerily similar to the goal yesterday.
Good lord Klose is a cyborg. he keeps on trucking Cup after Cup
2-0 on a Podolski goal.
It could easily be 3 or 4
2-0 from Podolski and could easily be 3-0. Guess the only hope now is to implement that time honored English tradition of begging the Americans to come save their ass at halftime.
Germany is a machine....
England pisses me off. They have so much talent, though a bit overrated, they should be able to beat any team in the world on any given day. However, they are just a bunch of prima donna's. With that said, they just scored. WAIT WHAT?! THAT ISN'T 2-2??!
EDIT: holy crap england were robbed.
Clearly the world hates England in football but only a corrupt or completely incompetent group of officials miss that call.
It's ridiculous to watch England play against 12.
No doubt, 1st Rooney is called offsides on the break away when it was last touched by a German defender then a ball that is at least a yard in the goal is not noticed.
...the Referees assistant was about 20 yards out of position on Lampard's goal and it certainly looked like Jermain Defoe was onside on the header off the wood. There is either a high level of incompetence in that crew (unlikely given FIFA's ref ratings on each game leading to different match placements) or there is some influence playing out.
It's hard enough to play the 11 Germans on the field; thank God Neuer is, well, Neuer.
And by 11 Germans you of course mean 8 Germans and 3 Poles.
Let's not open that can of worms. I don't think Emmanuel Olisadebe is ethnically Polish. For that matter, I didn't see many Native Americans on our squad.
what a match. Glad I woke up early for this.
terrible break.
And THAT is why FIFA needs replay.
no way, just a ref on the goal line, or goal line technology since this is 2010 and all.
Jesus.
WOW England got jobbed there!. Willing to bet instant replay for goals will be in the next WC. The English media will go nuts about that goal for the next 4 years if they lose this game.
Instant replay would hurt soccer. All you need is two more officials, one on each goal.
Beyond goals you have red cards for untouched players diving, handballs off of faces...there seems like a lot that could be corrected.
Edit: and as of Argentina-Mexico, offsides needs to be reviewed too.
Football has seven officials, and replay is still useful. Soccer needs to put in replay, at least for goals (allowed or disallowed) and penalty kick situations, and maybe red cards as well. I'd put officials behind the goals, but I'd also put replay in.
Awful call. Clearly a good goal on Lampard's chip. Should be 2-2. This game is out of control.
Between that and playing Germany, it's almost enough to create some sympathy for the English.
Hmmm...almost.
announcer:
well, that was aclose one... only 2 yards behind the goal line
This guy is making Calamity James look rock solid. Totally lost on the goal and caught off his line twice now (the BS disallowed goal and Defoe's header off the bar where I thought he was actually onside).
We've had a couple exciting shootouts (US-Slovenia, South Korea-Nigeria) but nothing like this with teams that also have the skill to take their chances. Throw in a little controversy and it is a no brainer for me.
...we're going to get 3 (and a half) goals in the second half, are we?
Live: well, 1 more at least...
Edit: then again....Germany doing their part...
3-1 on a nice shot by Müller. Very nice breakout Germany on that play.
Lampard blasts it into the wall after a Rooney flop and ze Germans strike on the counter attack. Muller makes it 3-1.
...incredible counter. That's the way to shoot on goal - pace and on target.
4-1 now! The rout is on, another by Müller.
...and this game is over. 4-1 Germany. Ach du lieber.
4-1. Ozil outruns everybody and feeds Mueller for the tap-in.
..."This game is surely done and dusted."
pzzowned
I'm sure the English media and English fans will use the disallowed goal as an excuse. But the English have been outclassed by the superior Germans for most of the match.
"Hey, we would have only lost by 2"? If Germany is done. It's one thing if Germany had packed it in. But they may not be done.
England's defense looks as bad as ours. With worse goalkeeping. Say what you will about our Tourney...but we may have done our best work by winning our group and avoiding Germany. Glad this wasn't us.
...I appreciate that you, like the rest of the world, will enjoy England taking this beating but do you think that outclassed is really accurate? The disallowed goal was a major point in the game and clearly impacted the England performance thereafter. Anyone who has played any football is going to understand the difficulty of playing one goal down versus level. England had plenty of the ball and significant chances to finish. Outclassed seems pretty ridiculous.
Congratulations to the German team on the result. I will hope they beat Argentina 50 - 0.
I agree, but England were way too over aggressive in trying to catch up from down 1-2...and when you add in the fact that they didn't play good defense against a great counter attacking team...well perhaps they should have played more within their means as they controlled most of the possession.
Chances you say? The Germans could've been up 4 goals instead of 2 by the time the English started to play this game. They were surely robbed of a goal and probably in overly dramatic English fashion they went into the locker room at half time grabbed their cry towles and called it a day. You had your hopes up. And we American fans had our hopes up as well. But in this tounament more times than not the cream rises to the top.
FWIW, I tuned in as a pretty neutral observer. I started pulling for England when they fell behind 2-0, but only because I wanted a good game. Germany certainly controlled play overall, but the second half may have unfolded differently if it had been 2-2 at intermission instead of 2-1. As it was, Germany had the luxury of playing more defensively and waiting for counter-attacks while England had to press the issue. I did think England played well for the first 20 minutes or so of the second half, but that third goal broke their backs.
What game were you watching???
