OT - Earthquake

Submitted by ontarioblue on

A 5.5 earthquake just hit the Toronto area.  Buildings shook for about 10 seconds.  How far was it felt?

Uh, everything's under control. Situation normal.... Uh, we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh... everything's perfectly all right now.  We're fine.  We're all fine here now, thank you.  How are you?

Uh, uh... negative, negative. We had a reactor leak here now.  Give us a few minutes to lock it down. Large leak, very dangerous.

Uh...

Boring conversation anyway...

Dear Colleague,

We are pleased to announce the Ninth U.S. National and Tenth Canadian Conference on Earthquake Engineering: Reaching Beyond Borders. The conference will be held July 25 to 29, 2010, in Toronto, Canada, and will provide an opportunity for both researchers and practitioners to share the latest knowledge and techniques for understanding and mitigating the effects of earthquakes. This is the first time that a conference of this scale is being organized jointly by EERI and the Canadian Association for Earthquake Engineering. The conference will provide a unique environment to develop synergy between U.S. and Canadian colleagues, as well as other participants from around the world. This conference will bring together professionals from a broad range of disciplines, including architecture, structural engineering, seismology, geology, geophysics, geotechnical engineering, social response, regional planning, emergency response planning, and regulation. The conference venue is the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toron . More information about the conference will soon be available on the website http://www.2010eqconf.org

We are looking forward to meeting you in Toronto - please mark your calendar!

Kind regards,

Andre Filiatrault and Ahmed Ghobarah, Conference Co-Chairs
