Bornstein is one of the best soccer players in this country. Probably, infinitely better at his craft than you are at yours.

You write on a message board about your hate of someone you don't even know.

You are truly a sad individual. I hope Bornstein scores a hat trick today just to spite you.

Forgive my (US) soccer ignorance. Is Bornstein playing because he's the best the US have at left back?

He's playing because Onyewu was dropped and Bocanegra was moved to central defense.

So, Bornstein is considered the second best left back in American soccer. What a terrible position he's raised himself to.

Bornstein played well today.  He got turned pretty early in the game, but was pretty decent for the rest.  In the past there were reasons to hate on Bornstein, but he played well considering this was his first WC.

This was one of Bornstein's better games.  When the bad Bornstein is there, it's obvious -- he spends at least half the game getting completely torched repeatedly and is then (hopefully) mercifully subbed out.  The torching wasn't happening that often.  With as hard as the US was pushing forward, Algeria really didn't have a ton of great chances all things considered.

Saved by the crossbar on our usual "give up a goal in the opening 15 minutes" deal though.  Demerit nearly killed us there, but was great after that.

I have never understood Bradley's obsession with this guy and Ricardo Clark.  But I'll give Borenstein credit for playing well today.  We're probably also better off without the over-rated and out of form Gooch on the field.  Bocanegra played very well in the middle.  He's smarter with respect to positioning, etc. than Gooch, and right now is more mobile and stronger in the air, due to Gooch injury recovery.

It'll be interesting to see who starts in the backfield against Ghana.  I'm gonna go Cherundolo, DeMerit, Bocanegra, Spector- Bradley hasn't been afraid to play everyone and DeMerit looked much better with Boca there today.  Edu, Bradley and Feilhaber also played their best games today.  Of course, it was Algeria...
