OSU is to Blame
I put all the blame on Ohio State and the BCS for the piss poor performance of the Big Ten in this season’s bowl games. I’m sure I am like the rest of you, in that I share an ever-burning hatred for OSU, but after the Fiesta Bowl tonight, the Big Ten will be the laughing stock of college football for the first time in history. Ohio State has no right to play in a BCS bowl this year. They went 0-2 versus BCS teams; one of which was over before halftime. What made the BCS selection committee think that OSU would be able to win a game against a top 3 team? Take a look at how much better the bowl games look if OSU went to the Capital One bowl where they belong.
Penn State vs. USC – Obviously a loss
OSU vs. Georgia – OSU -7 to -10
Michigan State vs. South Carolina – Even Money or State +3
Iowa vs. Missouri – Even Money or Iowa -3
Northwestern vs. Florida State – Even Money or NW +3
Wisconsin vs. Kansas – Even Money or Wisconsin -3
Minnesota vs. Central Michigan – Even Money or Minnesota +3
With these matchups, the Big Ten has a much better chance of going 5-2 instead of what looks to be a 1-6 campaign. Not only has OSU tarnished the reputation of the Big Ten with humiliating national championship losses the past 2 years, the can single handedly ruin the chance of the Big Ten playing for a national championship for years to come, with a loss tonight to Texas.

If Georgia played Ohio State the way they played Sparty, the Bucks would have won by double digits.

Really? Cuz I'm pretty sure the mainstream consensus is that the Big Ten has sucked for the last few years and is always overrated. The fact is, the Big Ten hasn't had any respect for the past few years and it won't change until we start being more competitive in bowl games and start winning BCS games.
With that being said, I still want OSU to lose today; the Big Ten's image is already at rock bottom, and OSU winning won't change anything for the time being.

I don't think Florida State and Northwestern are that evenly matched, and I'm not so sure about Wisconsin and Kansas, either. I think your opinion of the Big Ten is a little overinflated. You can't say "Yeah, well...we're 1-5 in bowl games right now...but if we played different teams, we'd be better."
The Big Ten isn't good right now. Deal with it.

Stupidest. Argument. Ever. The Big Ten is down for a number of reasons. Ohio State being shamed on the biggest stage two years in a row has certainly helped, but the icing on the cake was your secondary getting torched by a bunch of D-1AA plebes. Most people don't consider it a great shame to lose to a national champion, but a D-1AA team? Come on. You easily have as much of a hand in the Big Ten's current reputation as we do.
I don't even know why I bothered to respond to this. In your scenario, I see no more than 2-3 wins for the Big Ten anyway, and you can bet dollars to donuts that each win for a Big Ten team would be chalked up to the other team "not having its head in the game" or some other such BS. Missouri and Georgia got that blank check from ESPN for simply subpar performances against Big Ten teams, and nothing would have changed with your stupid little dream scenario. This is total bullshit. Ohio State has the only national championship for the Big Ten in the last ten years and one of maybe two landmark OOC wins the last four or five.

Technically, UM lost to a two-time defending National Champ when they lost to Appy State, who went on to win a third straight NC later that year.

The BCS selection committe doesn't give a d@mn about creating competitive matchups. The BCS (all bowl games, really) is about one thing: MONEY.
OSU fans usually travel in droves to watch the hairless Nuts play in bowl games (this year, however, I think they actually did NOT sell all of their allotted tickets for the Fiesta Bowl), whereas the other option, Boise State, simply wasn't "sexy" enough to warrant a BCS bid

I contended on another site that the Fiesta Bowl would have been better off taking Utah. With the proximity of the Fiesta Bowl to Utah, I would think it would have been a guaranteed sell-out.
Maybe Ohio St. fans would have rather traveled to New Orleans for essentially an extended New Years weekend, rather than Phoenix on Jan. 5.

We have Oregon State's choke job to thank for the Fuckeyes getting that undeserved BCS berth, I think it would have been OSU and not Utah or Alabama who would've gotten bounced if the Pac 10 had 2 teams in the BCS.

we are discussing hypotheticals....i would like to see tebow and harvin play in ann arbor this time of year....or for that matter, any SEC team.....we travel too there, play in front of their home field and what....we are at an extreme disadvantage.
my mother-in-law was driving up 75 this past weekend to atlanta from florida, she said every third car was a dumbass dawg fan....and she only saw 2 sparties over a three hour trip...
where is the fairness in that?

I've been reading this site since the coaching search last fall and have finally decided to get in the game. This seems like a good place to start.
UMTex is way off base on this. As a long time UM fan and Ohio hater, I have no desire to be perceived as defending them. But Logan88 is correct. The BCS committee cares not at all about anything other than cash, marketing and how programs will travel. That's it. That's the list. The actual game is secondary and in some cases meaningless.
The list of 7 bowl games that UMTex sites is fine, but where are the wins? Georgia probably still wins, Mizzou rock stars Iowa, maybe sparty gets over maybe not, FSU and UK would roll.
As far as the Fiesta bowl tonight, I hope the horns walk. But I won't be watching...Just sayin'...
