Help New Orleans/LA Wolverine Fans Get Big Ten Network

Submitted by Shalom Lansky on

Cox Cable, New Orleans' cable provider does not offer the Big 10 Network.  Most people down here are SEC fans obviously/unfortunately, but the local sports bars draw big crowds for Big 10 games and I've seen enough posters on this board mentioning they are from this area to know we're well represented.  I don't think adding Nebraska will heighten the probability of getting BTN added but I wondered if any of you have or would be interested in trying to lobby to get BTN added to Cox (whether you live down here or not).

BTN provides a form that automatically sends a request to Cox, I've filled this thing out annually but so far no luck.  I encourage others to help out and fill out this form, even if you don't live in Louisiana (though, someone with more computer knowledge might be able to tell me if they track where you're sending the request from and therefore disqualify anything out of the area).

I realize that this may not make one damn bit of difference but I thought it might be worth a shot:

If you're asked for a zip code add 70118 or 70115 (others from the area, feel free to add your local zip) and select Cox as the cable provider.  If this catches on maybe we can help lobby for other areas without BTN.

it's unsafe that our children, looking to experiment with some 3 yards and a cloud of dust, have to go to unsafe places to get untested and unmonitored Big Ten Network. By legalizing BTN (and taxing it heavily) with strict regulations, we can make sure the safety of the children is maintained.

Always wondered why Michigan doesn't invite Tulane up for a scrimmage, err, I mean game.  Tulane's football team draws about 500 people to the Superdome on Saturday's and could sure use the huge payday a game with Michigan would provide and at least it would provide Michigan with a DI (barely) opponent .

Cox also is the cable provider in the pan handle of Florida as well. I'm not sure how far that extends. This probably affects Alabama and Mississippi as well so this would be a huge step for the BTN.

i have a lot of time to put into moderating content and making sure reposts are removed, etc., because of the nature of my work. you would be surprised how much WAY offensive stuff gets thrown on here.  i'm not trying to be anything more than that and am open to criticism/suggestions.

Might I suggest that the solution to the problem here is easily solved by inviting one Tulane University. I may or may not be biased, but anything that wrestles some of the hegemonic power from LSU I am all for.

Im not being snarky, but Cable drove me crazy for a few years when B10 network was in its infancy...now I have Directv and for no charge I get B10 network and the alternate B10 network (both in HD IIRC) so every umich game basically is a go and no extra fees.

that there's no viable other options for internet in New Orleans. thus residents are forced into the Cox bundle of internet and cable in order to get their fix. jeez, they JUST got ESPN3(60) operational down here through whatever agreement that took.

there's a handful of bars down here (Cooter Brown's, The Boot, Bruno's, Gordon Biersch (?)) that have dishes but it's a pain in the ass to hear from your friends how this or that is on at 3 am and how awesome it is to rewatch and have no ability to do so.

I hate watching in bars when the sound is turned off, often I'm left wondering what happened to a certain player who left with injury or what penalty the ref just called and the iphone battery is too shitty to keep refreshing the live blog for an entire game.
