Leaders And Best

Happened one other time that I can recall. Played Duke twice in 2008-09 with the 2K Sports Classic. Lost the first game at MSG and then beat them at Crisler 2 weeks later.

Usually has to involve an early season tournament where the school doesn't control the schedule or other invited schools.

opponents.  The problems are always the 5 cupcakes that we schedule against 300+ body bags instead of teams in the 150-250 range that at least have a pulse but still have about a 2% chance of beating M. No reason to be scared of that.

That said, the effect on RPI is overblown around here.  Didn't hurt M last year (maybe could have been a 2 instead of 3 seed but doesn't really matter), and generally doesn't hurt seeding (with 16-17 the notable exception).

As fan though, I'd much rather watch us play some MAC or Horizon teams rather than SWAC and MEAC yawners.  The former are actually games that help the team and are a little more interesting.

Villanova and UNC early in the season?!?! Love that! Reminds me of when the Fab Five played three top 5 teams in December, and won two of those games!

It was Nebraska (who was #20 at the time), UNC and Kansas in Maui. Best UNC on a late put back by Jalen just before the horn. That team lost two 1-point games to Indiana. I still don’t know how.

Calbert Cheaney was lights out. Pissed me off that we didn’t have a shooter to his caliber. I would have taken even a Voshon Lenard, who was not as good a shooter as Cheaney IMO. Not sure how we missed him being from Detriot. Anyway, I think it would have brought that missing link to get us over the top in ‘93. Rob (Lowe) Pelinka doesn’t count.

That is what beat us against Indiana.  Fundamentals and discipline.  They sound like coach speak, I know, but in this case that is exactly what happened.  We did not protect the glass against Indiana, our interior players (Webber and Howard) floated around the perimeter too much and we didn't establish any real cohesive sets, got hurt overplaying with back door cuts.  Bobby Knight took Fisher to the woodshed.  That is how we lost those games.

I'm serious. Why should we be playing the Tar Heels while wearing the emblem of the most celebrated Tar Heel athlete ever? Hypothetically speaking, if Charles Woodson was signed by one of the apparel companies to be the face of a line of college uniforms and a silhouette of his leaping interception was chosen to adorn each and every jersey, do you think any of our opponents would be willing to wear said uniforms when playing Michigan? I don't think so! No brand should hold sway over the MICHIGAN brand. EVER. Yeah, I know there's a contract with Jordan and Nike and it's probably wishful thinking on my part that the Michigan AD would have written in an individual game "out clause" in the event of Michigan facing N Carolina in basketball, but why can't Warde contact Nike and negotiate a one-time waiver, maybe even opting for some Nike-designed commemorative throwbacks to wear that night? We Are MICHIGAN. Fuck UNC!

I hear ya - I'm over these unis anyway - I think they're ugly as hell with the small glosssy numbers high on the back and they fit tight on the chest and shoulders. Print on the front needs to be bigger too: let 'em know you're MICHIGAN!
