OT: Favorite/Least Favorite Ad Campaigns
The Tide schtick during the superbowl this year was awesome.
Edit: Love the All State Mayhem campaign too.
The absolute worst:
What's a computer?
I can feel my wife rolling her eyes every time it comes on, because she knows I'm going to comment on how dumb it is.
That smug little shit knows exactly what a computer is.
And she looks like Barb from Stranger Things which makes it even worse.
I like that commercial until she says that line. So bad. As if anyone does not know what a computer is. That iPad she is holding is a computer. I am an apple guy, too. Horrible line scripted for the actress.
hate that line
That stupid duck needed to go away pretty much as soon as it was introduced.
The one with Yogi Berra in the barbershop was pretty good.
You try and make a company called "AFLAC" stand out.
They did a great job. We all know what it is now. We didn't before that ad campaign.
Often times the more annoying a spot is, the more effective the result. FLO is also a prime example of this effect.
I dislike Flo, I like the duck
My current favorite campaign is the directv ads demonstrating people who like awful things, like running into doors and sitting in gum.
My favorite commercials from back in the day were the red wings commercials that suggested watching hockey would make you tougher. There was one where a person was hit by a car while putting away groceries that just slayed me.
What can I say? I'm a sucker for slapstick?
I'm Ron Burgundy?
was Pavel Datsyuk on the Rahmani Eye Institute commercials. Unintentionally funny.
"I trrrust my eyess to dohctorrr Rrrahhmani and yu shud tu..."
The guy who hits his head repeatedly and laughs about it is the best.
Love those ads too!
Awful. Just awful. Although the more recent ones with the guy who doesn't recognize the other guy are pretty funny.
One of my favorite ads of all time was the Dollar Shave Club launch campaign with the CEO or whatever walking through the warehouse.
Least favorite: ANY insurance company ad.
Most favorite: Anal/vaginal strokers on the back page of the Metro Times.
The mayhem guy is pretty entertaining.
Worst: Domino's "Avoid the Noid" campaign. Beyond annoying and bothersome to watch.
Best: Apple's "1984" Super Bowl ad. If you've never seen it take a second watch this in its entirety. I still remember my jaw hitting the ground watching it live when it first aired
well FINE then.
Big Brother
Fun (?) fact: the "Avoid the Noid" campaign drove a mentally ill man named Kenneth Noid, who felt the campaign was targeted at him, to take a Domino's hostage in Atlanta in the 80s: LINK
This ad was. Thanks for the blast from the past, MGrowOld.
Helps when you do the smart thing and hire Ridley Scott to direct your Super Bowl commercial.
I think it is now socially acceptable to date yourself.
Not so much the ad contents, but more the hellish little jingle they play every time.
You know the one.
The Buick ads have made me swear off buying a Buick. The song and the whole “Be better than your neighbor” schtick makes me sick.
I really hate any ad that depicts someone feeling superior to their friends or neighbors because of what they own.
Not since "The heartbeat of America, today's Chevrolet" has GM entertained. It is as if the Buick team never heard of the catastophe of "It's not you father's Oldsmobile."
So what the hell is it if it isn't your father's Oldsmobile? If it doesn't look like a Buick then what the hell is it?
So you hate ads then?
And I hate that Buick one where the rich hipster neighbor douche has fucking binoculars checking out his neighbor's buick. Fuck that guy.
And the old lady who's looking at a car with a GIANT Buick logo on it and asks if it's a Buick...
Ugh.
and I haven't ( like right now). Makes me feel like the house sticking out for not being maintained. As soon as I cut my grass and its shorter just due to the timing of when I cut, I always feel smug, like hey, maybe you all should clean up around here.
Read something somewhere that adult peer pressure is having to cut your grass, and that hit me like a ton of bricks. Sorry, tangent was in response to feeling superior to neighbors.
Favorite add campaign is the Pure Michigan adds with Tim Allen. The song, the voice pace, it just makes me feel good when I hear it and think, gosh this state has a lot of great places. Like a feel good boost.
Also, the Terry Crews Office Linebacker still holds up.
That’s what I told him!
...still make Buicks?!
You too!? I hate that shit, and I'm sticking with my Toyotas
I like 'em big... burgers, of course
“It’s gotta be the shoes!” and Lil Penny.
Worst: Flo and Progressive. I really hate seeing that bitch. Leave us alone lady!
I actually thought those Dr Pepper commercials were pretty funny for awhile....especially when he gave Flutie a boys’ medium jersey.
I always thought the campaign had great potential but always fell flat. Just bad writing I suppose.
the Ad’s were made for the SEC slappies
eTrade baby is the best
"That doesn't look like a Buick" is the worst
"You moved your ball!"
"It was on the cart path... Trying reading a rule book shankapotomus"
Not a fan of the campaign in general, but the one where the girl goes, "my grandpa has a Buick" makes me laugh every time.
I don't like commercials with people dancing.
That stupid fucking SOBE water commercial with the lizards. Lizards dancing to Thriller was kinda enjoyable, but somebody explain why the fuck Naomi Campbell had to be in the commercial too.
