Although based on Purdue/Speight, I think B1G refs would allow it..  I don't blame the other teams for cancelling games against them.  Coach resigned, player suspended, but neither of those fixes the poor QB..

I have been in Japan for the last week and a half and can confirm they have collectively lost their minds over this hit.

It has been on the news every day and got more coverage than the latest North Korea/South Korea slappy fight. There have been press conferences, interviews, a media chase of the coach, etc and yet they continued to blur the players number and not mention his name.

That is the most blatant late hit I have seen in football in any country since the 90s.  It was several seconds after the play on a QB without the ball... I argue it would be an even bigger uproar here with knowledge of conussions, rule changes, and increased focus on safety.  That was a very fascinating story and a picture into another culture.  Thanks for sharing OP.

That's bad and it should actually be illegal. Players and coaches should have criminal charges for terrible hits like that. I'm serious. This pisses me off so bad. These ghetto ass pieces of trash do this shit all the time. I'm not being racist either. There are white guys too that are schmucks and trash as well. They all get away with it all the time. If you cant fucking do it in public or anywhere else, then why should it be allowed on the football field? Oh but it's a contact sport, you cant bring the law into it you say? Ummm, yeah you should you fucking idiot. Hits like the one on Newsome that couldve been easily prevented. That could've wrecked his livelihood for his entire life because he would've been in a wheel chair. How about when that Saints coach was telling his players to knock Gore in the head and take him out of the game? How does that guy not do any time? Thats some messed up shit. Fucking world and idiots I share this planet with.

Cheap shot, way late for sure. But my first thought was "that hit wasn't that bad."

Is that a horrible way to think? He didn't hit him in the head. I feel like every year in college football in the U.S. there are quite a few more violent, legal hits within the game. Or late hits that are penalized (maybe not quite so egregiously late as this one).

I guess the difference here is the clear intent to injure after the play is well over. Interesting story. Who knew college football was even going on in Japan?
