First 2011 Recruiting Team Rankings from ESPN

Thought I would share this in case anyone was interested. obviously way early, but gives you a good indication who has started out hot on the recruiting trail (Texas @ #1 with 20 commits 8 of which are in the ESPN 150 - holy crap!) Nothing real surprising at the top, but here's a couple of things that jumped out at me: Stanford and Washington look to be starting off very well (13 &15 respectively). They both have a lot of commits, but only two 4 stars each so far. Kentucky @ #20! 9 Total commits with 1 four star commit. What's up now Calipari!? Mississippi St right behind Michigan @ 24. By the numbers, they have an identical class as us so far - 2 four stars and 3 three stars. Eh, still way too early. I don't pay attention to class ranking usually until November. By then majority of season done, most official visits taken, and alot of kids start committing as classes rapidly fill up.

...but sometimes I wonder if early rankings are like those in the on-the-field polls.  As for Michigan, the fact that is is going to be a small class this year probably doesn't bode too well for its final rankings.  As we all know, though, the value of any class will be proven on the field in three to five years.

I won't care what our rankings are as long as we find some quality players on the O-Line and in the LB core. We need numbers and quality there, so I'm really hoping that a good season will net us a couple 4 star players at those positions.

I would suspect that folks don't look at summary statistics here - in our case a smaller class overall means that the rankings might not rise that much by the end of the year.

 

And such an inference will be misleading....
