The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan softball team (43-11) will head to Lexington, Kentucky, to kick off NCAA Tournament play this weekend (Fri-Sun., May 18-20) at the University of Kentucky's John Cropp Stadium. The Wolverines will open play against Notre Dame at noon on Friday, live on ESPN2.
• Michigan is making its 26th NCAA Tournament appearance (1992-93, '95-2018) and has earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament every season since 1995. It is just the sixth time in program history that U-M will play a regional round on the road. The Wolverines are 81-15 all-time in the NCAA Regional round and have won 18 regional titles.
• The winner of the Lexington Regional will move on to a super regional against the winner of the regional being hosted by Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. That regional consists of No. 1 overall seed Oregon, BYU, Drake and Albany.
Rough start for Beaubien. ND bases loaded with 1 out.
ND sac fly, goes up 1-0.
Nice job getting out of that inning with limited damage but it sure did seem that Beaubien was a bit amped that first inning. Probably to be expected in her first game in the NCAA tourney. Let's settle in and get it going, ladies!
Great way to keep myself from working on a Friday afternoon
Nice of ND baserunner to leave early.
Go Blue! Interesting that ND has thrown out less than 10% of base stealers this year. Hopefully we can take advantage a few times today.
ARGH! Just foul.
So, I meant to have a regional preview up last night and then sit down to watch the game today. But my internet's been down since Wednesday night, and I have only just now been able to get to the library to log on. What's worse, my TV is down along with the internet, so I'm only following this one online. Very frustrating - hope the game goes better than my last couple days have been! :P
What, you didn't wardrive to find a connection? Boo! /s
Go Ladies!! Lets kick the Fighting Brians asses.
Sigh. Another runner stranded.
The bats just aren't good enough. The ND pitcher can barely find the strike zone but we are under everything and popping everything up, maybe one good line drive. Really failing to sit on that changeup even though its the only pitch she is throwing consistently.
Sigh, was really hoping to not have another one of these games where the offense slops around. I miss 2015 something awful at times like this. Lots of time left, but Beaubien's going to have to be stellar.
So, I'll fully admit that I've really only watched probably the last half of the season more than the first but how on earth do we have so many averages in the .400 and .300's?! Just seems that almost no one can make quality contact lately.
They've had some stumbles lately, but over the course of the season, we've had one of the best defenses in the nation. If we could just string together a few more hits, this would be an elite team. Unfortunately, it's a little late in the season to be hoping for that.
I mean its a problem all year. Having success against a majority of big ten pitchers means nothing. The offense just isn't good and hasn't been all year. Just have to hope it changes next year.
Maybe someone should light off an explosive to wake up bats.
a live chicken...
How about a bucket of KFC?
you in a heap o' trouble.
and watch out for the cattle, they're curious types. if they see you they might investigate.
ND-1
UM-0
1-0 ND. Top 5th, ND with runner on first, 1 out.
still 1-0 ND, headed to bottom of the 5th.
Bases loaded, but got the 3rd out.
/lights explosives *BOOM* *BOOM*
to touch Jobu's rum...
That could've gone south quickly
So if there's a weather delay, maybe this time it'll be good for us?
some lightning might wake the offense up?
Lightning within 8 mi, so 30min delay, at least.
Wake up, bats!
Beaubien - 0 K's through 5 with 3 BBs?
I think it's fair to say she's running on fumes at this point.
it's 1-0 lol maybe we should just score some runs.
No team ever won a game having scored 0 runs.
Great memory, but you are kind of missing the point!
This team is really challeneged to score runs. Anyone know if they have some offensive firepower coming into the program next year?
Yeah, Shawn. There is.
#7 recruiting class in the country coming in. I'll be doing posts on each player coming in.
Morgan Overaitis (#18), Hannah Carson (#21), Lexie Blair (#28) and Gianna Carosone (#60) are all top-100 players. Lou Allan was #11 last year and has been in the lineup this year as a DH but not every freshman can step in be a Romero.
