Grant Newsome, From 2 Weeks Ago, Update On Status
I saw this video 2 weeks ago, a presser when the team was in Paris. I thought some regular poster would have posted it by now. At least I haven't seen it posted yet.
In it, he takes some questions about his possible return.
"What have the doctors told you...?" "Just waiting for one kind of nagging thing to come along."
"...you could think about maybe sitting out another year?" "...it would be an option that's on the table."

It sounded like he said has 3 years left to play his last 2 years of eligibility.
You don't lose legs due to nerve damage. That would cause pain and make it difficult for him to use the leg properly. You lose legs because of vascular injuries, which are incredibly common in knee dislocations (up to 40%).
Likely hood of him playing again are very slim. But, the fact he can walk and live a normal life is what is most important. He has a bright future outside of football.
It'll take an act of God for that miracle to happen this year.
Based on your background I read that as a bad sign he will come back.
It does prove that choice of college goes beyond the slim possiblity of an NFL career and having a good degree as a "fall back" option. I tend to think Grant Newsome is going to do quite well even if never plays a down of football again though.
No Doubt!
I'd rather the team I root for go 0-12 every year with guys have Grant's character than win a single "championship" with those that would sulk and quit after this. No kid deserves this, but true champions rise above it.
No dude, Wheaties is the breakfast of champions.
and I doubt you would either...
just sayin.
18 - 22 year olds risking their health for my amusement
vs
young men showing growth, maturity and being inspirational
just sayin
I get it, but you do realize football and CTE go hand in hand so if you support michigan football you basically are watching people slowly kill them selves for your entertainment...
not to mention the role SES plays in all of this...
jdon
Well then God bless him.
Hope for the best and work with all you've got.
Whatever happens, the young man is a Wolverine with a U of M education and a determined attitude. That's a recipe for success.
Except that it's been a dream he's been working towards his whole life. He's such a great kid and he derserves to realize his goal of playing NCAA football again with a shot at going pro.
Yeah, I know we need a left tackle. But people need to stop putting their hopes for a good Oline on him. Really. Just leave him out of it, and be glad that he has two legs.
You don't think that's what he wants and has been working hard to achieve too?
Funny how this seemingly small cut block ended up to be the Achilles heal for this program the last year and a half.
And when he walks under that banner in a winged helmet again, I'll be cheering like a madman. (Even if he'll never play another down for the team ):
Whether or not he ever plays again, he did play in 2015/16 so he's still good to join Gerald Ford on the short list of guys who both wore the winged helmet and were POTUS
Although Don is indeed speculating, I feel like you are both right.
We'll have to wait to hear from the real doctors, but common sense tells you this does not bode well.
he returns, as that is clearly what he wants to do.
But I'm happy in the fact that in everything I've read about him, or heard from him directly in interviews, he seems to be a super smart, amazing kid. Whether he plays another down of football he's a huge asset to our program, IMHO, and I bet he goes on to do great things.
but I'm old enough to guess that coming very close to getting half your fucking leg cut off because the injury is so severe is probably a sign that playing tackle football again against 320-lb guys who are trying to hit you in the knees isn't such a great idea.
Grant is a good guy. Sat by him in a recent class everyday. Same class that I sat by a member of the defensive backs I will not name......but we would help each other on every test and final in that class. Grant never participated, I think he frowned on our actions.
"help"
Offensive players are penalized for cut blocks why not defnesive players?
The self righteous preaching in the Grant Newsome threads is unbelievably nauseating.
I find it amazing that he is so committed to getting back on the field. I wish him the very best and hope he achieves all of his goals.
