OT - Reddit CFB Risk Update 5/11: WE'RE SHIPPING UP TO BOSTON (COLLEGE)

Submitted by ReegsShannon on

As always, thanks everyone for your contributions to the war effort. We had an ANOTHER amazing night last night. We kept/maintained every single one of our primary goals: UMass, Syracuse, Army and Buttgers. We are now very close to solidifying a chokehold in the Northeast. We also managed to maintain Ann Arbor. We had ANOTHER enormous jump in power/users yesterday because of you guys.

We're by far the fastest growing team in the game. And hey let's compare ourselves to OSU.

We now significantly outpower them after being weaker than them for most of the game. A LOT of salty OSU fans have been complaining that we've been creating bots. But we know that's its because you guys.

We are encouraging any users on here that have been attacking anything in Michigan or Ohio to send your resources to the Northeast. You can directly help by defending any of our current territories in the NE (Rutgers, Army, UMass which are at threat from Clemson) or attacking any enemy territories bordering them. In particular, we want you guys to hit the territories "Boston College" and "UConn" HARD. If we take them, we will have grabbed the corner of the map and have finally accomplished our first goal in the game.

Instructions to Join:

To join all you need to do is go to reddit.com/r/cfb and create an account if you don't already have one. Next, set your flair to Michigan. You can do this by clicking "Select Flair" on the right side of the cfb subreddit. Finally, you can join and play the game at https://vote.redditcfb.com/cfbrisk.php

If you want to discuss the game in deeper detail and strategize with us, you can join our discord server found here: https://discord.gg/TcZBTcj. We usually announce plans of what we want to attack/defend in the evenings, but we discuss strategy all day. Be warned though, there will be a vetting process to join the discord as we have had some mole issues from OSU. Even if you don’t pass the vetting process, we can still provide less-secret instructions in the general chat so that you can still help us towards our goals until we can fully 100% trust you.

Additionally, we have formed "The Blue Alliance" with Florida and Georgia Tech. If you would like to meme about this, go to: www.reddit.com/r/CFBRisk/

Go Blue!

Instructions as to how to play:

At the beginning of the game. Every team was assigned one single territory, and so every territory is now named after that team. When you go to select an action in the game, you'll see option such as:

"Defend Buffalo", "Attack Penn State", "Attack Kent State".

This means that we border the location that was originally assigned to Penn State and Kent State. If you choose to attack Penn State, you will attempt to take that piece of land next round. Defend Buffalo, means that we currently own Buffalo's original homeland, and defending Buffalo means putting your stars towards keeping Buffalo from being taken.

After you submit what you're doing for the day, just sit back at wait! At Midnight EST all of the picks from all of the teams go in, and a random number generator selects a winner for each territory. Then it all happens again tomorrow.

Also, I got a request about making a guide for how to increase your stars. I didn't have time to do that for this post, but I'll try to write up a quick google doc at some point today and post it in the comments. I'll also include it in any posts going forward.

From what I have seen, the biggest influence that can be had on the star rating (outside of 2 minutes of link clicking and playing the game everyday) is reddit karma. Someone needs to make a Reddit thread where UM posters can upvote each other quickly and repeatedly. I suspect this is how Neb and UF have so many 2 and 3 star users.

I think it's mostly just because Nebraska and Florida fans got good participation from frequent Reddit users from the jump. We didn't really, and we have so few stars/user because we have recruited a ton of people from mgoblog.

I've thought about trying to query reddit for everyone with Michigan flair and PMing them.

As long as I double posted, what about VT.  If we dont need to use all our power on Clemson should we work to eleminate VT as well?

But feel free to keep hammering away at the Northeast. It’s not like us Yoopers can liberate ourselves with this 56K dial-up Internet we’re stuck with. And, BTW, our scouts inform us Buckeye fans appear to be using Mackinaw Island the same way they use their coolers on game day. So if you’re not too busy, could you at least airdrop some AOL free trial discs somewhere between Hancock and Toivola?

One of the criteria to increase your star level is to visit relevant links. You can do so by clicking "links explored" in the dashboard of the game. It'll show you all the links to click. Takes 30 seconds to click them all.

I'm not signed up yet, but will be soon.  I like the strategy of backing off to the northeast for multiple reasons:

1) Creates essentially a 1-front war instead of being attacked from multiple angles.

2) Makes it easier to coordinate future attackes pushing out of the northeast.  (We're like a receeding tide before a tidal wave.)

3) Let's OSU and others be our front against team Chaos.

4) While defending one's home state seems noble, strategically it may not make sense.  I'm glad to see our (intelligent) UM team not making that blunder.  There will be a time to re-take the homeland.  Patience.

Struggling to get the hang of it but I am in as jayrome313. Reddit is Crome27. I hit BC today and look forward to these posts. Let's take them all out.

From the vote screen if you click on your name it should show your vote history. If you have a multiplier of 0 that means you've been flagged as a bot. I just made my Reddit account and had this happen to me. You can message the moderators listed on the right of the CFBRisk page and they'll mark you as a human.

...it really makes me appreciate the return of college football. EDIT: you know what...I like Michigan and I like the game of Risk, while I may never find enjoyment in watching other people play video games or multiple posts about the status of an online game on a Michigan Sports Blog...I am pretty sure in the moment this Reddit College Risk game is probably pretty fun. So F me, and I just downvoted myself (-1) ...that said...I really can’t wait for college football to start. ;)
