QB Joe Burrow leaves OSU

Can infer that Haskins is your starting QB, and he very much looked the part last year, and Martell the backup. It will be interesting to see Burrow's landing spot, as many have speculated on Nebraska, but he would most likely have to pay his way there.
Haskins
RS Freshman Martell
True Freshman Matt Baldwin who hasn't enrolled yet
thin
Considering OSU's third string QB won a national title three years ago, I don't think they have a single damn thing to worry about with their QB depth.
With Tom Herman though!
I mean, that's not true. Having only three scholarship Qb's, two of which are freshman, is an issue. Will they be fine anyway because they're ridiculously talented? Probably. But that doesn't mean they aren't thin at Qb. There's a reason Meyer was making this out to be a competition this whole time - not because he was ever going to start Burrow, but because he wanted him to stay for depth.
that scrUrbz is wanting to do more pro style stuff. Im guessing. Thats some thin/inexperienced depth at QB and if he keeps running his qbs like he did with JT....could turn out poorly for them. God willing
scrUrbz
really?
scrurbz? Is that supposed to be like "scrub"? Verb?
Don't want....
Or because Haskins is a pro-style QB
They have 3 players who you could classify as QBs, and none of them have played significant snaps coming into the year. Sure, maybe OSU's system is a juggernaut that anyone can pilot. Or maybe they got sorta lucky with Jones (who looked pretty bad the following year and was subsequently benched) for a 3-game stretch and if that repeated itself they'd be in deep trouble.
I'm sure Meyer believes in his system and thinks his guys can perform. But anyone saying they aren't a bit concerned with the paucity of experience on that roster in that spot is just ignoring reality.
Martell would probably be able to step in and keep the juggernaut going, he and JK Dobbins in the backfield is a bit of a scary thought.
The true freshman would be a total game of craps.
Martell is about 5’10” 175, soaking wet. We’ll see how he holds up in the Big Ten.
So I actually went back and changed my post. He is probably not really 207 lbs but he must be 190 - 195 lbs for them to use that weight - which is a decent build for a kid who is 5'10".
Question with Martell is whether he can throw effectively at a P5 level - not saying he can or can't but that is the question. He is electric when he is running.
I went back and looked at Barrett in HS and he was listed as 6'2", 205 lbs. He was a bigger guy than I remembered him being. Martell is a pretty small guy; if Meyer ran him as much as he did Barrett he might get into trouble simply because he couldn't hold up. Haskins is more in the physical mold of Barrett, though J.T. seemed to handle getting just crunched way better than I thought. Of course, he regressed terribly as a passer, so maybe it had some effects.
He's an electric runner against high school kids his size. I think our front seven this year would punish him. I do think Haskins has the size and style to stay healthy.
On a side note, I was looking at the post spring depth chart for OSU. It seems like this (like 2016) sets us up to be the better team on paper. They will have a good running game, but their recievers and o-line aren't that great. We do pretty good to shut down their running game and their passing attack isn't head and shoulders above our secondary. Also, they are breaking in a bunch of new players on defense. They are always loaded with 5 star talent, but even 5 stars underperform. I am thinking a win against the bucks this season is very possible (which is how i felt going into 16 but not 15 or 17).
I'd never know this, if he didn't have a famous uncle (who I had a chance to talk to, and is the only way that I'd ever think about this...), but there is another OSU scholarship QB. It's Justin Cook, who is the nephew of PGA Tour golfer and OSU All-American John Cook. He was a preferred walk-on, but I think he's got a scholarship now. He has RS-Junior eligibility, I believe.
Correction: Nope; he's gone. Graduated.
No school has ever lost 3 QBs to injury so they will never need a fourth spring QB, right?
Fairly sure they can get just about any qb they set there eye on. They won’t be hurting any time soon if they continue to evaluate talent well.
That might help them in 2019 and beyond but if they have bad luck on the injury front, they would end up with a true freshman / walk on QB starting some games this season.
What team has ever had to play their 3rd sting QB for large parts of the season??? I mean that NEVER happens!!!
Out of all their QBs since urbz has been there....are any of them doing anything in the nfl? They can get any position not with a QB tag on his name, agreed there.....but I just heard that they offered a pro style kid that Sparty wants....could they be feeling some pressure from dual-threat QB recuits who dont see the value in urban and their career goals? Maybe not, but its possible.
And on top of all that, I heard Sam saying the 2019 QB class is really not great. So there is a lot of pressure in their current qb room to not only perfrom but stay very healthy.
They lose haskins or miller and they are crossing their fingers the rest of the season which leads to getting real timid/careful/predictable with the playbook.....all trickles down as we all know very well.
Meanwhile our QB room is stacked full of dogs...tide has to change at somepoint right?
Their*
and expected to redshirt?
Maybe he wants to be a QB in the nfl.
UF is a landing spot
Makes sense. Hard to believe, but Florida's QB play last year was worse than ours.
If he graduates from Florida, I wonder how fast he will walk across the stage?
Unless he's a 4.4/40 (zero fakes out of five) kind of guy.
though not curious enough to look
They're probably trashing the kid.
Nothing on 11w yet. As of 48 minutes ago they posted about a back up Oline men transfering to Sam Huston St. Must be extra salty about Burrow leaving.
Reminds me of this older Buckeye behind me at The Game this past year who was so enraged when they put Haskins in instead of Burrows. Didn't care for JT either...kept saying "we need a pure passer!" as Haskins threw multiple pinpoint passes.
Maybe he wanted his QB to be more gritty and a student of the game?
it’s almost as if pure passer means something totally different to some people!
Yes.
You should have offered to trade O'Korn for him. If a white dude named "John O'Korn" seems like he would have been "pure" enough for him.
Also, Haskins scares me. I thought the offense looked better with him in there.
scares me also. Hated playing against JT, but Haskins came in and looked even better and appears to be a much better passer.
So a highly regarded QB prospect from OSU is transferring out, most likely because he sees another highly regarded QB prospect starting and taking the playing time he was hoping for away from him.
It certainly would not shock me if another B1G school we all know and love had a very, VERY similar thing situation unfold before all is said and done.
He’s a grad transfer with two years left who can play immediately.
While I appreciate your desire to be technically correct, you’re just a jerk here. Burrows was a highly regarded prospect before he chose OSU and that’s what is being referenced.
All time best seller
Well I had sex with your wife!
in regard to depth - I had read in several spots that Meyer was appearing to keep it a competition as long as possible to try to keep Burrow in the fold for at least this year.
As for your allusion, I would not be surprised to see Peters transfer AFTER this year (as a grad transfer) IF Patterson doesn’t leave for the draft and/or it is clear that McCaffrey or Milton have passed him. It doesn’t make much sense imo to do this any earlier given he has already taken a RS. Plus I still have hopes for BP to succeed at UM.
I assume you are throwing shade at BP for some reason.
If he gets beat out and transfers, he would have to sit a year. If he waits until next year, he can see what the competition looks like for 2019 - if he wants to transfer, he can graduate early and do a 2 year grad transfer.
I'm backing this thread to survive because Mantis Toboggan is from one of my favorite shows.
He sells some pretty good magnum condoms too. I hear he's got a monster dong....
to say this - but while there may be other reasons, guessing that Haskins and Martell are pretty damn good to cause this transfer.
Too much to hope for that the player is trying to avoid another "tats for gear" scandal or some such shenanigans by our overly aggressive brethren from the south?
Honest question: will OSU realest him to play in the big 10? Should they? My intimate feeling, and I do see both sides, is that when a kid leaves a good situation such as OSU based simply because he is beaten out by the competition, the team should not necessarily be expected to let the kid go compete directly against them...and, yes, I am simply assuming that there is not other non-football issue.
Not “intimate”. I meant Immediate. Sorry for the typos.
