Why hasn't U of M reached out to Jake Long

Submitted by Butch-dontcall… on

Just read an article in the freep (sorry) --- but the interviewer asked if UofM has reached out to him to come back for a game and he said "no"..... It seems to me that an all-amercan, all-pro, no.1 overall pick, very pro-michigan guy would be a great guy to talk to or have the o-line talk to-  given the o-line troubles... he is a Lapeer born michigan man... Is there some history I dont know about? ...go blue

"Reach out" how? For a coaching position? Analyst? GA? Or just to pick his brain?

Jake can walk into Schembechler Hall anytime he wants and I guarantee the staff will welcome him with open arms.

Lol at the idea there's some beef with Michigan and Long. He has a newborn and is still adjusting to life after football. I am sure if he expressed interest Michigan would love to have him in any capacity. Not everybody wants to go right into coaching as soon as they are done playing football

... don't ask questions if you aren't prepared to deal with the answers. the laughable part of this is that your question makes it seem like you suspect there is some secret beef causing a rift, if there was we would already be talking about it and it wouldn't be a secret

If you were to think about it, you might realize why. Jake Long would make a good honorary captain. No argument there. So would a lot of other former players that haven't been yet.

If you're looking for a potential beef, the clue would be if he was asked, but declined. Not that he was one of many players that haven't been asked yet. Going straight to some sort of history being the reason is very trollish.

You say you're not suggesting hiring him as a coach. Fine. Having him to talk once to the players would be fine too. Suggestng that as a way to address the OL struggles is so unrealistic that people assumed you were looking for Long to coach. If he has technical suggestions to make, better to address them with the coaches. The players don't need conflicting advice.

He doesn’t need an invitation to come back. There is nothing in that column that even hints that there is some kind of beef between M and Jake.

You can ask that about a whole host of folks who haven’t been honorary captains yet. Has Denard done it yet? Navarre? Henne? Braylon? Griese? Hutchinson? Maybe yes to some of them—I don’t keep track myself. But I guarantee you Long isn’t the only one and it isn’t some slight or intended oversight by the school’s part.
