Official: Friday Night Adult Beverage thread and 'Sam's Club or Costco' Poll
Mates,
I don't know about you, but this wasn't my favorite week. I'm such a slacker I didn't even get my manure spread (maybe tomorrow). I will be having an adult beverage this evening, almost certainly red pop of one fashion or another.
Also, in our area there is a Sam's Club and recently a Costco opened up. I've been a Sam's Club member for years and years, and they do good with what they are supposed to. I've been to Costco in other areas, albeit infrequently. Seems okay but I can't think of a reason to switch.
So for tonight, two questions:
1. What's in your cup?
2. Sam's Club or Costco, and why? Is there really any significant difference?
I hope you have a great weekend
XM
This is a joke right? Costco and its not close.
Tofu.
Cage free eggs.
prices? product offerings? what is the 'not even close' deciding factor because i have no idea.
EDIT: just saw your edit. we don't eat tofu, and we have hundreds of free range laying chickens so we get truckloads of eggs on a daily basis.
thanks.
In a snobbish tone, SAMs is close to the same though.
Sweetwater Pale Ale tonight.
Makes step stools, my Costco sells Wild Maine Blueberry spread!
Yep, non discussion. Costco, next question.
Goose Island IPA.
Costco over Sam's. I've been a member of both. Costco has better meat.
If we ever eat produce or tofu, it's from the Asian grocery stores and farmer's market.
Drinking Auchentoshan three wood single malt, neat. Good stuff. Agree it's been a long week.
Costco - if only for the Prime meat.
(attempted humor). we raise/slaughter/butcher our own meats, and i know that meat is a big deal in decision making for stuff like that but we are set in that regard.
Other favorites:
Their prosciutto, olive oil, coconut oil, garlic butter muscles (frozen), possum, and Mexican coke when I wasn't on a keto diet
by us. possum are foul creatures. i gave a bunch of them shovel ready jobs when the weather warmed for a bit a month or so ago, they were trying to get in the hen house. getting about one a night. no more possum problems....
and is your mexican coke liquid or powder?
Pretty sure the Mexican liquid coke has powder coke in it.
get out of here with that weak Sam's Club shit.
No drinking tonight, we've got theater tickets.
Even more reason to toss a few back.
I don't understand what the two have to do with one another.
1. Weed.
2. Amazon.com
Last day of the semester. The Yankees are playing Trout, Ohtani and the Angels tomorrow afternoon and I've already got a big steak ready in the frig. Lots of grading otherwise but still that much closer to the finish line.
amazon doesn't sell produce, and we don't grow enough to carry through the whole year. we make some of our own cereal with our grain, but we mix it up with large packages of regular cereal. same with bread, soap, etc. so color inside the lines and give me an answer...
lol--I get veggies from the local food coop. But, if pressed, I'd go with the mob and say Costco.

I'm fascinated by people who homestead like this, XM. You should do a short video of your operation up there. I'm sure everyone on MGo would be equally interested. Sounds like you got plenty of time on your hands (ha!).

patronizing me. if serious, the main method is to be blessed with an exceptional mgobride/spouse and a larger than average number of children and to homeschool them most of their years before college, then co-op with the local gov't or Christian school until it's time for them to go to college.
depending on the year and season, cattle, sheep, goats, turkeys, chickens (by the hundreds), crops, dairy and eggs from the farm. i am too busy to do much selling, but we generate enough $ to basically pay the property taxes and eat those main things for, in effect, free. I have not made it a priority to set up a website or use my other contacts to push products. i'm pretty sure i could get a pipeline into the local organic markets and the 'local food' trend up here. we have no pesticides/herbicides/fertizlier/vaccines on the farm. all the live stock is pastured, virtually no grain.
i have taught the children how to slaughter and butcher, and we have a friend who has a USDA facility so we can use his stuff to package it all.
No, being totally serious. And thanks for the info. I have total admiration for people who are able to live primarily off the land like this.
Sanchez woke up in a big way, Andujar is raking and Gleyber's coming along nicely.
They better win the division. Really don't want to face Trout/Ohtani in the wild card.
Aaron Judge cannot be stopped! I love this Yankee team. They can win the division--Boston is already fading from that hot start.
I give Tyler Austin credit for putting the fear of God in the Red Sox to kick off their slide.
Once Judge and CC hit the field, order was forceably restored. CC was trucking Sox like a bull elephant seal. Their pitcher never should've thrown at Austin--that was bullshit. The slide was clean.
Also the deli department. Chicken packaging that doesn't need to be separated to freeze/portion sized. Black rice.
Bourbon County and c’mon! Sam’s is trash... Costco FTW!
is sam's such trash. i believe you, but what makes it so?
Sam’s isn’t “trash” but it doesn’t come close to Costco. I got a little excited.
Samples, prices, selection and having a very very good in house brand (Kirkland) are what sets Costco apart.
Edit: as someone said below, they also treat their employees really well, which as a customer, does mean a lot!
I believe "Kirkland" is just when Costco contracts with an existing producer to make virtually the same product they already sell to other outlets and slap the Costco label on it. I agree it tends to be good.
when i worked at P & G a hundred years ago they did some of that too.
Yeah, figured it wasn't an especially novel approach. I haven't invested the time, but I always thought it would be fun to see if I could identify the source brand/manufacturer for some of the Kirkland things we buy. Yeah, I'm weird.
Lots of outlets use private labels, Costco just does it better. Check out their Crown Royal and Grey Goose knockoffs, they are virtually indistinguishable from the target product. (I have conducted blind taste tests with myself. Results may have been inconclusive). That, plus the way they treat their people, has me sold. Also, fuck Sam Walton and his evil empire.
Laphroaig and a montecristo later
And Costco by a country fucking mile
Cheers friends, cause for celebration tonight
Softball currently in a 0-0 tie with Indiana in a huge series. Baseball takes on Iowa at 7:05 Eastern. Both games on BTN Plus.
I don't know a single person that goes to Sam's Club. It's Costco for the peer pressure alone. And with all the samples, it's always a full, free meal every visit. For the things I care about (I have enough TVs) Kirkland gin is a pretty good deal, and the Bourbon ain't bad either. Not a fan of their Wodka. Wine selection is usually very good too.
I have not started the adult beveraging for today, but whoa is it coming soon. Feel free to start without me.
They have two vodkas. One made by Grey Goose and the other I can't remember. Maybe Sky? Though, I'm not a fan of vodka in general.
Shopping at either one is worse than any nightmare.
Ok, the first rule of shopping at these establishments is to not go during peak hours. Try a Tuesday evening.
Sam's has an app you scan and purchase your own items. I use it everytime, never had an issue.
Fireball and Coke.
Costco all the way. They may not have as many name brand products, but the quality of many of the Kirkland brand items is outstanding for the price you pay. Plus they have the best $10 pizza in the country AND treat their employees great.
Yes, it “nice” to frequent and shop at a store and company that treats its employees as well as they do and their attitudes while working definitely show that they are treated well.
Costco simply for the golf balls
*when in stock
I believe you can get liquor and prescriptions at Costco without a membership. So tell the greeter/ ID checker at the door you are going to the pharmacy and wander around to see if you like what they offer.
Then, when you like what you see, get a membership and buy a 3-pack of cinnamon loaves. Have one at Sunday breakfast and freeze the other two. They last for months and are still delicious.
Oh, and Moscow Mules.
You are correct about the prescriptions. Lower prices than most places, too. And while you're waiting, enjoy the free food samples.
Writer's Tears Copper Pot Irish Whiskey with a touch of water, sent by my brother from Dublin.
Don't feel bad, I tossed enough shit for the both of us this week in the DMZ!
Sadly, Kang-Dae recently perished in his battle to sustain my glorious heft. RIP.
Elysian Space Dust IPA & Costco - it's not even close. Next question ...
