BBall Recruiting - New 2020 Target/EM Top 100 PG Zeb Jackson

Submitted by Matt EM on

With limited scholarships available in the 2019 class, and Michigan offer day right around the corner in mid-June, its reasonable to turn our attention to the 2020 class at this point. Zeb Jackson, from Toledo, may be a likely candidate to pull in an offer at the PG spot.

I had a chance to view him live this weekend in Grand Rapids, can definitely play.

His high school competition is really bad. Same conference I played in in high school. At 6’3”, he’s probably one of the tallest players in the conference. He goes to school right down the street from where I work. Seen him play a few times. I think he will probably grow a couple more inches too.

its pretty weak in the Toledo area...........and in general I don't put a lot of stock in HS games exclusive of LA, Chicago, DC, Dallas and a few other cities.

That said, Jackson looked great against The Family (the highlights in the content are exclusively against The Family this weekend in Grand Rapids), an EYBL team that won the Peach Jam (EYBL championship) last year, so that is a great barometer for me to evaluate.

It's not even necessarily the "Toledo area" competition that is weak...his school is D-IV, I believe, and it is in a BAD conference. I'm assuming you saw him playing AAU or something similar though? That should alleviate some of those competition concerns, I would imagine.

I'll definitely be listening for his name in the future. Thanks for the update.

its pointless to account for his HS games for evaluation purposes becuase it is poor comp level.

But when Zeb plays extremely well against the defending EYBL champions (The Family with a top 50 player nationally and every starter with a D1 offer) then his performance has to be evaluated accordingly. The film in my article is exclusively against The Family from this weekend in Grand Rapids and he played really well.

But that’s the school doctors and lawyers send their kids. Reading that he was from Toledo, I was curious which local school he went to, thinking Whitmer or St. John’s, one of the big schools anyway. MVCD would have been the last school I would have guessed. The very last. Grades won’t be an issue, I can guarantee that much.

an offer will be based on combination of performance over the next two weekends, visit, and other targets on the board.

Profiles/rankings are nearly useless from the major sites to be honest exclusive of their final rankings in April for the signing class..........they lag behind in a bad way for the most part. It took them nearly 2 years to finally give DeJulius a 4th star and place him in their top 100.

Considering we will "most likely" only have 1 scholarship to give, I really don't think we should use it on a PG.  Already have 3 PGs on the roster, and none of them will be out of eligibility after next year.

Go Hawks! No idea we had this guy, but from what I remember of the competition level in the TAAC, gotta take the high school film with a grain of salt. Hopefully he joins the squad, Ohio point guards have been good to Beilein

But it’s not a lot of film. My point still stands though, the TAAC is not a strong basketball conference (tennis maybe). Anyways I really hope he goes blue and kills it. MV graduates 50 kids in a class and doesn’t even field a football team. Never in my life had I dreamed I’d ever see a guy from MV play a revenue sport at Michigan

are we recruiting with 1-2-3 spots in mind (attrition)?

the list is huge

wilson, brooks, weems, watts, girard, carlton, maxey... where do you think it all ends up and how would you rank them?

My list based on combination of need/talent only from the offer pool (would be different if considering targets - assuming Maxey is offered this week of course):

1) Maxey

Notice the gap, because there is a talent distinction from here on out

2) Carton

3) Weems

4) Brooks

5) Wilson

6) Watts

7) Girard
