Scouting the Enemy: Ohio State QBs are Good

Submitted by Occam's Razor on

I was curious to see how the replacement QBs for JT Barrett would fair in their spring game and well, lets just say I think OSU's offense got a bit more dynamic in the QB department.

This also made their WRs look a lot better relatively.

Dwayne Haskins (raises fist in air in anger) went 9/19 120 yards with 2 great throws to Jaylen Harris (25 yards) and Ben Victor (43 yards)

Joe Burrow is giving Haskins a run for his money going 15/22 238 yards with another pair of great throws both to Demario McCall for 50 and 42 yards

Lastly, redshirt freshman Tate Martell seems to be the most JT-like in that he's a great runner but mediocre passer rushing 9 times for 59 yards while completing 5/16 for 28 yards.

Spring game caveats apply, but this year's OSU team is NOT going to be like the past 2 years with either Haskins or Burrow starting.

I hope our safeties are ready come November.

haskins came in down in 3rd quarter on road, in the game and cut us up

and who has shea balled out against that is good? i get ole miss wasn't great, but shea hasn't shown up against a team with a pulse, similar to us in 2017

not trying to be a debbier downer, but shea isn't gonna just save the team, we have alot to improve on

His first start of his true freshmen year was on the road against top 10 Texas A&M and he threw for 338 yards and 2 touchdowns and Ole Miss upset them. You can take your shitty point that he has never performed against anyone good and shove it up your ass

but that's beside the point, my response was to the "let's not annoint shea yet" which we as a program like to do at times and that haskins has shown as much or more than shea with what he did against us in november

as i said, we need a lot improvement everywhere to be successful

honestly im most worried about the coaching and tactical play calling after last season (hoping its fixed now) because we have the talent to be very good (including shea)

Are you talking about which QB is better or which team? Because Haskins hasn’t done dick on the football field other than a couple snaps against us. If you took Haskins and put him on that Ole Miss team, I guarantee he doesn’t have 338 yards and 2 touchdowns in his first ever start as a true freshman. I would like to know what you mean by “still doesn’t show me more than Haskins” though. Are you just ignoring everything that Patterson has done because you’ve already made up your mind on Haskins? Because Shae has done much, much more on the field

It was a 6 point game when Haskins came in, he led them to a TD and a field goal, but the game clinching drive consisted of 3 runs, none by Haskins, for 66 yards and a TD. And you know who actually won a game on the road? The entire game that he was QB for? Patterson. I’m not sure why you think the 2 drives Haskins played against us is as impressive as the afformentioned Patterson game against A&M and all the other games he started and completed (which is more than Haskins has done), but I’m guessing it’s because you didn’t know about anything Patterson did while at Ole Miss and are concern trolling because Haskins looked good for a total of fewer than 30 plays for his career

What do you mean “winning the Michigan - Ohio State game?” He had 94 yards passing and zero touchdowns. But let’s be real, you haven’t watched shit on Patterson. You just want to be oh so concerned because Haskins played well for a half of a game. Unless you want to tel me exactly what you saw in both Haskins tape and Patterson’s tape that makes you think Haskins is the better QB? I will patiently wait for your analysis

6-7 for 94 yards and 3 carries for 24 yards, one of those scrambles setting up a one yard, go ahead touchdown with a QB rating 97.6 as a true freshmen against a top 5-10 defense on the road in the biggest rivalry in college football (cold off the bench)

a qb rating better than patterson has ever had at the collegiate level (91 his best against South Alabama). The A&M game rating was in the 70s

Lotta manizel highlights of shea running around making plays, doing flashy, impressive stuff.  but the best win between these two qbs is osu-michigan IMO. and he led his team to a win, which is the most important stat.

Calm down, he brings a valid point. Both still have a lot to prove, but Haskins coming in cold in the biggest game in college football and making clutch throws is pretty big! Shea has the longer term of success on his resume, however Haskins at least has the jump on him in terms of years in the system. Let’s just let it all play out in a few months. No need to for either of you to belittle the others thoughts.

Below is you post. Haskins wasn't facing the Michigan offense and was, indeed, facing the No. 3 overall defense in the nation and trailing only Bama and Clemson, they certainly were better than anyone else's D in the east. My point being, why make a post indicating he was facing a middle-of-the-road opponent when you know that is far, far away from the truth?

"But Haskins stats came against the...4th...place...team...in...the...B1G...East"

If you're being honest, you would have wrote that you thought MI now had a much greater chance to win the game but the freshman, in the biggest game imaginable, left no doubt who JT's successor would be. He was excellent.

You have to give them credit. OSU recruits gamers at the QB position. Guys that can go in in a drop of a dime and win a game for you..I’m not buying the “they have no experienced QBs”..They won a National championship with their 3rd string, while our QBs have to be spoon fed on what to say in a huddle...I’m almost at the point of seeing who they are recruiting and try to take them away.

I'm judging based on their play. I simply have seen more of Shea at Ole miss than OSU QBs play live. Haskins throwing couple of good passes does not make him Tom Brady. Lets see how he handles rigors of B1G play and getting hit. JT for all his short comings took punishment and got up and ran again; not all QBs have that mentality.

Really? Shea is better than all OSU qb's? Where do you come up with this?
I have a ton Of friends and fam who are mich fans and even they are living in reality. You are banking your hopes and talking smack about a qb transfer who couldn't win the starting job at ole miss.
Maybe we should see how it plays out before declaring him the savior of UM football.

Sometimes I think about responding to inane drivel like your post. Then, I think of what a pathetic hollow shell of a human being that one must be to not only actively monitor, but sign up for a board dedicated to a rival's team and do nothing but troll like a petulant child. At that point, I feel too genuinely sorry for you and your kind to tear into you, and just let your sad cry for attention go.

not "better than" sign. Also you should change your username to DoofusMcdicklefuck because you have no clue what you're talking about with Patterson not winning the starting job at ole miss. You visited your rivals blog, and got upset that someone threw shade at your QBs, then decided it was a good idea to start posting diarrhea.

Projecting a QB's output based on a spring game is up there with sticking your pecker into a moving airplane propeller in terms of wise ideas.
