If Moe Should Go
Where should Moe go, you know?
Ok, I apologize for that. But, what would your pick be for the NBA landing place for our favorite Berliner?
I'll take the easy one, and let someone more savvy think of something smart. Golden State, with all the shooting that they already have, could provide a unique opportunity: can you imagine the pick and pop, and probably offensive sets specific to the talent of that personnel set?
Ok, what else do you have for me?

SA and Celtics are what I've seen so far.

Lakers: good hands+pick and roll/pop player to complement IT. need that stretch 4 in Walton’s offense. Traded Nance away. Nice to have a 4 that can handle the break, be efficient and shoot 3s. Question is if he can make the most of 4-5 touches per quarter.
Celtics: Monroe and Bayne are inconsistent offensively and have mediocre hands. Takes the pressure off resigning Morris to a big deal. Need a second line scorer to take the pressure off Gordon. Might be a Kyle Korver type if he can get a faster release.
SA: They need a post that can move the ball and play fast when Aldridge is out.

The Celtics cuz he'd be great in Brad Stevens' offense, which is similarly to Beilein's relying heavily on the pick and pop game.

Trade Drummond & Jackson for picks and build around Wagner, Griffin and Kennard.
April 14th, 2018 at 10:54 PM ^
The Pistons probably can't give him away. They can draft Wagner if they want to and give him a chance to develop behind Drummond and Griffin.. He's not going to step into a starting role as a rookie.

Every pro sports fan (at least, every fan who calls in on sports radio) is convinced that draft picks can be easily acquired in exchange for unwanted garbage.
Caller: "I hear it's a good draft this year. So let's trade [crappy player with huge contract] for some picks. Trade him to [team with high pick], that'd be a good deal."
Host: "Unfortunately, I don't think that trade will happen."
Caller: "It would if our GM would get his head out of his ass."

is giving up an unprotected 2nd for Jackson. He's got about 4 years and 65 Million dollars left on that contract. The Pistons would probably have to trade a first to get rid of Jackson. Drummond has about 3 years and $80 Million left. Blake Griffin has 4 years, $125 million left. They're not getting picks for ANY of those guys, except possibly Drummond. And it ain't gonna be a high pick that's for sure. They're absolutely fucked for the next few years thanks to Stan Van!
But I 100% stand by my statement that they should flip Drummond & Jackson for whatever picks they can get.
It's a great idea in theory, but there's no team in the NBA that's taking Jackson. That's a contract that will need the Pistons to send an asset to unload. Drummond could possibly be flipped for a low first round pick, but even that is unlikely due to the contracts that Detroit would have to pick up. Plus selling low on a 24 year old center isn't usually a great strategy. There's also no wiggle room for Detroit in terms of cap.

It's one thing to say they should try to shop them, but to say they can just easily unload them on willing takers and get draft picks in return . . . that's some sports radio caller logic.
More likely, if you trade them, you get equally awful contracts in return.

Surprise. Every mgoblog user who is a pistons fan says they should draft the UM player, regardless if it makes sense or not. You really think Moe is a "building block" for the Pistons? When he's not a projected lottery pick. Most mocks have him as a 2nd rounder or late first. Not many "building blocks" come from that range. He'll be a nice player, but that might be a bit overzealous.

we should trade everyone for first round picks, and that any of our players have real, tangible trade value. In fact, with the picks moving forward, Detroit may be in the absolute bleakest position moving forward. No Cap space, few picks, no flexibility, one young player with realistic upside at this point, injury issues, poor front office, poor coach, small market.
He can shoot the 3, put the ball on the floor and has improved as a rebounder.
put the ball on the floor, and are improving as better rebounders. I love Moe, but I don't see him being more than a solid role player and consistent starter. Which is a great spot to be in. But he has a good skill set that many other players possess.
It was quite contentious around here when the Pistons passed on Burke.
I specifically remember one guy being adament that it would have been stupid to take Burke because KPP was such a great pick. I thought there were basketball reasons to take Burke along with the obvious other reasons. In hindsight, it wouldn't have mattered much but Trey would have been just as fine a pick.
I don't foresee Pistons doing much for the next decade regardless of drafting Mo. But if they take Mo I might tune in for a few games. If not, probably catch them in 2028.
and is having a good comeback, but KCP was absolutely the right move. KCP has been so much better as a pro.

You don't give up on the youngest player in the NBA after one season when he's already good on one end of the floor. Also would make everyone in management look really dumb.
Ideal landing places for Mo are the Spurs and the Warriors. Those orgs are the best at player development and have coaches who adjust to talent with specific sets for their bench guys.

The Knicks aren't trading Ntilikina. He's 19, a good defender, and has a big upside. They just took him 8th in last year's draft.
