Michigan Cancels Spring Game Due to Weather Concerns

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Michigan Athletic Department has decided to cancel the 2018 Spring Football Game presented by PNC Bank due to weather patterns that project a high percentage chance for rain and thunderstorms on Saturday.

“We want to ensure the safety of our fans as well as the student-athletes and staff,” said Warde Manuel, Michigan’s Donald R. Shepherd Director of Athletics. “We also wanted to provide as much notice in advance for fans and the families of our players that were considering attending.”

The game will not be rescheduled due to the limited number of spring practices remaining for the Wolverines and the start of finals next week at the University.

“We are disappointed for our fans and players' families that this opportunity to see our team compete at Michigan Stadium will not be possible due to weather concerns,” said Jim Harbaugh, the J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach. “We made a decision that was in the best interest of our fans, student-athletes and volunteer staff needed to organize this event.”

So that sucks. At least it wasn’t going to be a game? Earlier this week the football team let it be known the format would be more situational practice than competition. Still quite a bummer for the fans and all of us trying to get a glimpse of the team.

Showcasing Patterson's performance in Michigan colors before an immediate eligibility decision is made was a bad idea. Just imagine how much more of an outcry would come from the SEC voices than you heard about player camps. There's a level of compelling that isn't present with speculation (that Shea starts, that he will be good, that the O-line will protect him) that evaporates on screen.

I still remember laughing at Brian Kelly for their loss to NC State back in 2016 when Hurriane Matthew rements were hitting the atlantic coast.  Kelly was calling pass plays in a literal hurricane.  What kind of an idiot would do that, I thought?

Welp.

It was the first game that I began truly questioning what in the hell this offensive staff was doing. The first few games I chalked up to being young and inexperienced - but to come out with that performance after a bye against a rival was despicable.

Who the fuck wants to sit at a practice game in the rain???  I'm sorry but I am quite sure the players have better things to do than to get sick in the rain for our entertainment.

And although this is a big recruiting event, if its all rain and no sunshine then that could have been for the worst.

Well that frees up my Saturday evening.  Supposed to be mid-70's & partly cloudy in NYC.  Don't tell me I should actually go out & do something...

I think this might overall be good for the team. it might let them avoid extra outside pressure. I might be reaching a bit but watching All or Nothing I'd say the cameras didn't help certain players (looking at you speight)
