Awesome! Thanks so much for the heads up OP
Pretty pumped about this. Does anyone know if they will release a non-streaming version? I'd love to get some DVDs for my technologically averse father.
If there was a Michigan alum behind this at Amazon and/or the production company, they need to be reprimanded. Completely unacceptable to exploit the university for personal benefit.
I don’t want to hear any of the incompetent touchy feely nonsense that this will help Michigan in the long run. This is not beneficial to the university or the football program
The university was paid like $2 million to do this. Your take is silly.
Shit, you’re right. The university would be dead in the water without that money.
I am glad they did it. It’s pretty cool and I guess we have different working definitions of exploiting.
Imagine how good it’ll be when we have good seasons.
But in all seriousness I’m still watching. I imagine it’s about far more than football, and that’s what this program will always be about.
Hey, I'll check it out. I have Prime, so why not.
Are they releasing one episode per week? I see 8 episodes but nothing about a release schedule. No binging?
Aww man. That's the fun of streaming versus TV. Come on amazon
All 8 episodes are live.
I don't get why people keep asking if it is one episode per week..
Amazon has never done this.. everything is released in full.
is released 1 episode per week.
Was about to post this, but you beat me to it.
And on that terrible disappointment... It's time to end this comment.
I'm stocking up football content like this for when I start craving football.
Highly recommend this strategy.
As for now, I'm enjoying the hockey game!
I thought about doing the same, especially since Amazon is lame and is apparently releasing one episode a week. (Edit) Nevermind, it's bingeable.
I might save it for the dead of summer when I'm desperate for anything Michigan.
Told myself I’d wait till after the spring game. Two episodes in now and I’m wide awake.
Watched the first 2 episodes and so far it’s pretty awesome. Really well done. I didn’t think it came out until tomorrow but looked it up and started watching a few hours ago.
My thoughts through 4:
- This is awesome.
- Rashan Gary is so sensitive. Love him and his mom.
- Speight is irritating but its hard to pinpoint why
- Pep Hamilton is clearly calling the plays. I like how he talks to the players. It's not clear at all wtf Drevno is doing during the games.
- Don motherfucking Brown!
- Winovich is a beast
- Loved Mo Hurst driving the Uber, but he needs to put his phone away while driving
- Also, Don motherfucking Brown!
I’m done with two episodes so far and completely agree about Speight.
The end has determined the narrative. Drevno and Frey having left before the editing was done has effected how they will be potrayed in the series.
Nailed it. I'm guessing this is why they initially announced it for a January release but ended up waiting to announce a date until all the coaching changes had shaken out with Drevno leaving.
Agree with you guys completely. Love it.
Much of the editing on this would've been happening during the late season, but revisions they've had the last 4 months to finish to focus the narrative of the story they are telling. If they decided to cut down on Drev & remove Frey completely it seems like a conscience decision, whatever the reasoning. It's a delicate balance. The producers of the show have to balance the drama that creates 'compelling TV' vs. pure documentary while also considering the fact that if they presented U of M in a disfunctional or otherwise poor light, no other team is going to let them on campus to try the same thing again. Also, depending on the contract, U of M may have had some amount of oversight or final say as to what is being shown.
I'd guess Frey was left out because U of M abandoned zone blocking early in the season and Amazon didn't want to bog down the show in too-technical football schemes that would detract from the story of the players, and that's what this series really nails. Probably similar for Drev, when he was shown outside of the booth it was one scene in the film room and the other was the dinner he hosted for the o-line. At some level this is a bit of a fluff piece on U of M because they could've shown a much nastier or mean-spirited version of the team on the sidelines/practice/film room. I think they could've put the screws to the coaches much more so (since they are paid adults) without throwing players under the bus.
In the end, the first audience for this series is U of M fans, so instead of focusing on disfunction & drama they focused on positives like team building, player/coach lives & relationships. The disfucntion angle would work great editorially for every other team not U of M, but again, amazon has to consider their relationship with U of M, and their access to other schools.
all accounts, and Speight is irritating because he is fucking clueless. His main problem is he isn't willing to accept any blame or take any responsibilty for his play. He actuall thinks he is playing well, and doing what is expected of him. I believe his girlfriend thinks he is clueless also.
Pep during the Indiana game at the beginning:
''I've never seen anything like this''.
God lol
Wilton comes off as insecure. He's constantly talking about what fans are saying online about him. Also, I can't believe Pep Hamilton has to tell him how to talk to his own team. He must be really deficient in leadership ability not to have an instinct about it (contrast with Baker Mayfield, for example). Chase is the breakout star so far.
It feels like he's trying to convince himself that he doesn't care what people say online, but it seems pretty clear that he obsesses about what people say online.
I have now watched through 3 episodes. I am not sure if I have the heart to watch the State game again.
bad. I thought it would be hard to watch also, but I actually thought we might win this time, lol. Rashan took it hard.
The Penn State game is brutal, especially after watching some of the practice that week. JOK really thinks he's the best QB in the nation.
JOK is wrong.
Man o man. JOK has a huge ego
I loved when Rashan's mom told him to wear his retainer.
a pretty good chuckle out of that!
Okay, Mom...
LOL!! Only watched the first episode, but glad I was finally able to get rid of Hughesnet so I could actually stream stuff...
I'm deciding whether I should binge watch it or try to stretch it out as deep into the offseason as I can. Nah, who am I kidding?
Pep Hamilton is the breakout star of episode one!
I watched the first episode which covers the Rome trip, preseason camp, and the 1st half of the Florida game. A lot of insider stuff you would never see or hear normally.
Good stuff so far. A lot of Harbaugh, The QB race, Gary, and Don Brown bitching at 2 players who fell asleep in his meeting.
Are Amazon and Michigan doing it this year too or was it a one year deal?
They want to do two years, but it's somewhat based on response to season one.
This is bliss.
Watching the first 3 episodes and harbaugh does not come off as a great motivator.
Don brown is crazy pissed off during the halftime of Florida game and it gets you pumped up..
Speight seems more concerned with what people were writing about him than focusing on football. He also ignores the coaches on several playcalls and it fucked up the offense clearly.
I've gotten through only two episodes, and I'm already ready for a new QB.
I've also found him kind of annoying and am trying to pinpoint why. It may be due to his preoccupation with others' perceptions of his play, but more likely is due to his complete dismissal of coaching and valid critiques. I was amazed that he thought he was running an efficient offense, despite (despeight?) having -1 yard passing in the RZ after 3 games.
Also, he seems detached, unenthusiastic and doesn't seem to inspire team mates. I found it oddly disturbing that Hamilton was phoning down motivational things for him to relay to the offense. I guess that's why they call him Pep.
who are supposed to be the team leaders don't seem to be able to sort themselves out, you got problems. What we were seeing on the field that looked discombobulated from the QB position, WAS discombobulated! Because the QB's head isn't screwed all the way on...
Watching the first bit, I was wondering if maybe part of the problem was in not picking a QB starter, setting one of them up as the leader, letting them be the guy, to grow confidence, maybe the offense could grow more confident through him. But neither JOK, not Speight appear to be good leaders...from what I saw, I'd be concerned about picking either one. So maybe it wasn't a matter of separation that took so long for them to choose, maybe it was more like, 'Jeebus, we're kind of screwed here no matter what' and they just weren't comfortable putting the offense in the hands of either guy.
And I agree and am concerned about the point about motivation, too. What we're seeing from Harbaugh as a motivator here is somewhat disappointing. Maybe it's the editing, or he acts different when he knows he's on camera? I was just expecting something more.
Man that Rome trip was awesome.
I thought Tarik Black broke his foot in the Florida game?
Edit: I was wrong.
Week 3, IIRC.
