Does Mo Return?
You think he has absolutely reached his college ceiling?
Guy can get his degree and get one more year having the experience of his lifetime. Then he can go make loads of money and never have to ask himself "what if I had stayed?"
It does not matter if he reached his collegiate ceiling. If he comes back, that means that he will forego the next year's earnings AND he will be in a worse spot draft wise the next year, costing him even more money and jeopardize his chances at NBA even further.
There were talks about Mo going in the first round last year, and even though he came back and improved his game, now they are saying he would be a mid 2nd round at best. I don't know why anyone would think that coming back for another year would reverse that trend.
There were talks by talking heads and then he was told by the actual people who matter he would be late 2nd at best so he came back. Who knows what he'll be told this time and what he'll decide.
He's a mid-late first rounder this year with the skill set he's shown.
If I'm him, I'm getting paid.
If he gets first round grades? Sure. Last I heard he was a second rounder, though. I think he needs to improve his defense a bit and stay out of foul trouble. His last two games were really solid in those areas, but everything before that wasn't so great.
I know the NBA likes tall guys who can shoot and pass. Maybe the exposure in this tournament bought him a first round pick. That's my barometer. If you are safe to go in the first, then go. If not... don't risk it. Get your degree and enjoy one more year of college. That's easy to say sitting at a computer working a corporate job, though. Can't say what I would think if I were in his shoes.
I think the worse thing that a person might have to ask himself for a lifetime would be, "What if I had gone pro instead of staying in college for another year, getting injured, and never playing even a single game as a professional."
he's not in many of the mock drafts and nowhere near the 1st round
Agreed, Matthews could benefit a lot from another year. Would love to have him back.
Matthews keeps growing on me the more I see him play. Dude clearly has an NBA frame. I totally expect him to become more coordinated and poised as he gets older and I think he will be a real NBA asset soon. That being said, I would LOVE to see him back next year and wreak havoc.
Can't see it.
Probably $15M reasons no. He gave us a lot though.
I have that same "college education" that people make out to be so valuable for athletes in college and guess what?
I've got a lot of years left to hit $1M
Plus he will get sponsorship by Radler Bier.
he has nothing left to prove. Don't think he's an NBA player, but he should go make his money overseas and maximize his earning potential.
DJ Wilson has $4,669,320 guranteed reasons to not regret his decision. There was virtually no upside in him coming back, especially with his injury history.
And staying another year gets him no closer to a second contract IMO
DJ is doing well in the G league and will have opportuniites in the NBA in the future
It dooes look good. Look at Miles Bridges. He might not go top 10 after being a top 10 guarantee last year. Alot of players that come back don't improve their stock. He very well could have, but odds are against it. And with his injury history, he could have ruined his pro chanches forever.
as he won't be able to guard anyone. And it's not like he is an unstoppable offensive force like Nowitski.
If it looks like his future is in Europe then I could see him coming back to UM.
I think he will struggle to have a longterm NBA future too. But that doesn't mean he shouldn't leave right now. Staying another year won't improve his stock. The only reason to stay at this point would be to get your degree or try and win a national title. But he can always finish his degree while he's playing.
How important is winning at UM to him?
How important is a UM degree to him? The Germans I know are all uber-educated.
It seems to me that his basketball future is in Europe, though (nothing at all wrong with that).
Bite me!
as I don't hang with douches.
