Postgame Presser Question regarding Wagner

Submitted by blueinuk on

Just curious to see if anyone else watched the postgame presser?  Around the 6:00 mark, Wagner seems to say under his breath 'how dare he ask me that question.'

I can't figure out if it was the question about change in gameplan, the technical foul or something else.  Thoughts?

Obviously it's never easy to be positive after a loss, but Wagner seemed quite bitter about something specific.

Edit: Oh man, now you are testing my OP skills.

I don't have a link but I believe the question was something regarding the quality of Japanese kitchen knives over their German counterparts.

He definitely said “how dare they ask that question” or something very close. Rahk definitely was like “dude, seriously shut up, they can hear you”. He looked shocked. I thought it was a fair question.

could not “definitely” tell what he said. It was all muffled and German sounding, and the question was about a possible turning point in the game, not exactly a doozy of a question. I don’t think there was any indication that Wagner was irritated or bitter about a specific question.

Thanks for telling me what I did and didn’t hear. Like i said it was that or something “very close” if you dont think he was irritated with the question, then you clearly have trouble reading body language.

lol German sounding? You seriously have trouble understanding his English? You also don't know what muffled means.

I think it clearly sounded like that's what he said, including the emphasis on "dare". I agree though that it wasn't a terrible question.

meh...kid is getting asked  questions after just losing a national championship...

not going to fault a 20 year old kid for not being completely composed and having the mics pickup something that he whispered to a team mate

Yeah, I for sure am not trying to fault Mo.  I'm just really curious what question he was responding to.

And i know it's not 100% certain what he said, but it sure sounds pretty clear to me.  And if he did say something along the lines of 'how dare he ask that question,' what question do we think he was frustrated with?

Yeah, it sounded more like dumb to me than dare. Regardless, why it matters to anyone except those who expect perfection for human beings is beyond me.

Despite the moderator speaking over him the word he uses is clearly "dare". Not that it matters. It's obvious he's feeling the loss and, from his manner and overall body language would prefer not to be there. Gotta feel for those guys hard to imagine a tougher loss than the National Championship game. Heck of a season and a heck of a team.

personally, i think he probably felt the answers were obvious - hence the sense of exasperation by Mo ...

Turning point? Nova made adjustments and started playing better...they started hitting shots where Michigan didn't... I thought he composed himself after that slip and answered as best as he could have under the circumstances.

any deeper analysis wasn't going to happen 15 min after the game ended...at least not by the players...

Beilein spoke pretty eloquently on the adjustments made by Nova, but he's got 40 years of coaching backing him up...

If he actually said that, then I give him kudos for saying "How dare he ask me that question?" and not "What the fuck?" or something similar if he really was annoyed.

Sounds like the Q came from Chris Solari at the Free Press.  Didn't think the question was that bad--something about how they jumped out to a quick lead and then seemed to lose momentum; Q was about what caused that momentum shift.  In the link posted by the OP, the Q is around the 5 min mark, MAAR answers first, then Mo, then Mo turns to him around 6 mins and mumbles something that sounded like "how dare he..."

I actually think that they handled all the questions very well and very maturely.

since he muttered that right after the guy said there was time for 1 or 2 more questions, Mo was saying to MAAR that they shouldn't dare to ask him that dreaded question - whether he would be turning pro or not. So he wasn't referring to the previous question, but what the next question might be.

Really good thought.  Could be that!

The only other thing I've been able to come up with is that to Mo it was obvious what changed the flow of the game and he was upset about it.  His tone and body language just seemed chippy rather than down.

Mo's thoughts could be anywhere at that point.  I wouldn't assume that his comment was tied to the previous question although I do like the idea that Mo said something like, "didn't they already ask that question?"

I thought they were well composed.

I thought the questions about the flow of the game were a little obtuse or pointless.

solari asks pretty much the same question twice - once at 1:37 and again at 5:07. so yeah, my guess is he's saying "didn't they already ask that question?"
