Z Appreciation Thread

Submitted by Mike Damone on

No turnovers, 3 steals, 9 clutch points.  Only one personal foul while hounding their guards.

When Wagner was out, he took over and got us to that 10 point lead.  That driving layup and dish to Robinson got us our cushion, which we never relinqueshed.

Here's to the Floor General!!!

charles matthews appreciation threads?   there were 3 up at one time, think they might go bye-bye.

but yeah, Z was fantastic.  about the only fault was missing that one-and-one with about 2 minutes left. otherwise, smart, fast, all of that.

Definitely stepped up when Mo had to go out and willed us to that run. Superb D as always. Great ball control when they were playing tight all the way down the court. Just excellent.

Tremendous floor general out there...terrific ball handler, lock down defender...but he's got to improve his shot. Stunningly bad free throw shooter.

... given how the TBS crew were salivating over the blocks by FSU early, I'd like to think that Z was just baiting them into thinking they had his number, when it was he that had theirs.

Z is a little beast! The way his game has evolved this year has been amazing, and it is a testament to both the teaching ability of Coach B and Z’s willingness to be pushed. He was challenged and he responded by becoming a leader.

Announcers kept talking about their press. It didn’t seem to pose much of a problem, and most of the credit goes to Z (and also MAAR) who brought the ball up most of the time.

This is what I kept wondering?

I know their press stopped Michigan from getting into the offensive sets rigtht away, but I can't remember the press causing an actual turnover. I'm sure there was one or two I'm forgetting, but Z and MAAR were fantastic at getting the ball and bringing it up the court.

I have total confidence whenever he handles the ball.  Michigan has just two great guards. MAAR is outstanding. But we all wondered who would replace Walton, and Z has more than answered that question. He is the most dynamic defender at his size that I've ever seen. He has a demeanor and level of poise way beyond his years.

When he conquers his foul-shooting issues, he will become a complete player. But the great thing is, we have two more years to appreciate his talent and skill development under coach Beilein.

Yeah he’s really great in so many ways. Unflappable, fast, quick, strong for his size, great handle, moves, finishing ability at the rim, vision, pin point passing, elite lock down defending, rebounding for his position, quick hands/steals, leadership, swag. He’s gotten his team to the Final Four in his first year starting. Get that 3 pt set shot locked in and improve FT’s... wow.
