ESPN's Myron Medcalf a Perfect 0-4 in Reseeding Sweet 16

Submitted by UMgradMSUdad on

A few days ago there was a discussion of Myron Medcalf's ESPN article where he reseeded the Sweet 16 and had Michigan ranked number 15.  His four worst ranked teams all won their games yesterday.  Here are his rankings:

  1. Villanova
  2. Duke
  3. Clemson
  4. West Virginia
  5. Kentucky
  6. Nevada
  7. Texas A&M
  8. Texas Tech
  9. Purdue
  10. Kansas
  11. Syracuse
  12. Gonzaga
  13. FSU
  14. Loyola-Chicago
  15. Michigan
  16. KSU

He's a perfect 0-4 so far in his seedings: the teams he ranked 13-16 all won their games.

there was accountability at ESPN? I know these articles are completely subjective. But I think it would be amusing if the writer had to defend his decision to the higher-ups for fear of being reprimanded.
Alas, that's not how it works at the WWL.

There is accountability in that they will now give him 2-3 more articles to double-down on these rankings before doing it all over again for the final four with even more fanfare. It's about entertainment and attention rather than knowledge. If people are talking about something because its wrong then at least they are talking about it! More wrong == MOAR TALKY. It's basically how Stephan A Smith, Skip Bayless, Mel Kiper Jr., etc not only have jobs but are championed and given their own segments and shows.

Fraud.

Goofball.

            Joke.

            "Expert."

I've heard it all in the years I've written my annual bold predictions. These critiques often follow calls for my resignation and subsequent retirement from sports journalism.

At least he is self aware, if not competent.

It wouldn't be ESPN if it wasn't full of shitty takes based on limited information.

The only thing separating ESPN from a bunch of mediocre sports blogs are their TV contracts. With few exceptions (Barnwell and Lowe jump out), most of the best writers and thinkers on sports sure as hell don't work there.

Ok yeah he was wrong but we weren’t playing well the first weekend that is true. I get it that Michigan is better than 15 but are we gonna be butthurt every time someone doesn’t worship us?

Well, we certainly all knew at the time those reseedings were a big, fat, heaping, steaming, malodorous pile of donkey dung - so it's not surprising. What's surprising is that an idiot like Medcalf actually has a job at a major sports network. Life sure is funny at times.

While his article is ridiculous cause he based his seedings off of 2 games, I'm sure if all of our picks were publicly displayed we'd have a bunch of them wrong.

Being an "expert" just means he has more information than us, not necessarily that his predictions are any more accurate than ours. I mean look at the Dan Lebatard Show, they had celebrities pick against Cowherd and they constantly beat him the guy who claimed Vegas odds changed based on his predictions.

I mean, I'm all in for trashing ESPN's professional idiots but punditry is synonymous with idiocy across the board.  Look at how often financial experts are right about the stock market.  O, or political pundits are right about anything in D.C.

"A record-setting eight teams have been selected to the 2018 NCAA Men'sBasketball Tournament. Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas A&M will represent the conference."

How many better teams didn't get in because the 4-letter network has an agenda to push? None of them won a sweet 16 game.
