ESPN's Myron Medcalf a Perfect 0-4 in Reseeding Sweet 16
A few days ago there was a discussion of Myron Medcalf's ESPN article where he reseeded the Sweet 16 and had Michigan ranked number 15. His four worst ranked teams all won their games yesterday. Here are his rankings:
- Villanova
- Duke
- Clemson
- West Virginia
- Kentucky
- Nevada
- Texas A&M
- Texas Tech
- Purdue
- Kansas
- Syracuse
- Gonzaga
- FSU
- Loyola-Chicago
- Michigan
- KSU
He's a perfect 0-4 so far in his seedings: the teams he ranked 13-16 all won their games.

like a perfect fit at ESPN

Well, he didn't rank Duke #1, so ESPN would have issue right away. Dickie V. would be positively apoplectic.
Kansas and Purdue are winning tonight as well. So that would 6 of the bottom 8. A real idiot this Myron guy
there was accountability at ESPN? I know these articles are completely subjective. But I think it would be amusing if the writer had to defend his decision to the higher-ups for fear of being reprimanded.
Alas, that's not how it works at the WWL.
At ESPN, you don't have to be right, only entertaining.
That's why it's the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network and not the Accurate Sports Programming Network.

There is accountability in that they will now give him 2-3 more articles to double-down on these rankings before doing it all over again for the final four with even more fanfare. It's about entertainment and attention rather than knowledge. If people are talking about something because its wrong then at least they are talking about it! More wrong == MOAR TALKY. It's basically how Stephan A Smith, Skip Bayless, Mel Kiper Jr., etc not only have jobs but are championed and given their own segments and shows.
but I don't know as I can't get past his seeming inability to pick Michigan. He is funny though.
He has hated Michigan for years. His only correct pick was FSU.
turrible.
This is exactly why you don't base rankings off of 2 games.
Just look at the dudes tournament bold predictions.

Reading his takes on college basketball is about as entertaining as those American Idol episodes with the hilariously bad singers who think they have talent.
I know- reading that article is like:
So funny to see these in hindsight!

To be fair, Virginia didn’t give up 80 total in the entire tournament!
It's almost as if picking two games out of an 11 game sample is dumb.
It wouldn't be ESPN if it wasn't full of shitty takes based on limited information.
The only thing separating ESPN from a bunch of mediocre sports blogs are their TV contracts. With few exceptions (Barnwell and Lowe jump out), most of the best writers and thinkers on sports sure as hell don't work there.
Compare this "expert" to their NFL draft guru Mel Kiper. Kiper continues to project the Browns taking Josh Allen at #1 despite NOBODY else seeing him as even the 4th best QB in this draft.
Clicks over accuracy. Hot takes over actual insight. Total garbage.

Browns taking him #1 and nobody seeing him as even the 4th best QB aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive though
Ok yeah he was wrong but we weren’t playing well the first weekend that is true. I get it that Michigan is better than 15 but are we gonna be butthurt every time someone doesn’t worship us?
Think this is about pointing out the absurdity in basing conclusions off of a 2-game sample size, particularly when you have an entire seasons worth of data points.
Well, we certainly all knew at the time those reseedings were a big, fat, heaping, steaming, malodorous pile of donkey dung - so it's not surprising. What's surprising is that an idiot like Medcalf actually has a job at a major sports network. Life sure is funny at times.
Can’t be upset about this, wish Michigan was the underdog the rest of the way
Going ESPN free is the only way to be.

That's what it is better at.

I’ll take an analyst job ESPN, can’t do worse!

Who?!?

article i read on espn yesterday said how michigan will not find its offense against texas a&m, ummm howd that go? haha

While his article is ridiculous cause he based his seedings off of 2 games, I'm sure if all of our picks were publicly displayed we'd have a bunch of them wrong.
Being an "expert" just means he has more information than us, not necessarily that his predictions are any more accurate than ours. I mean look at the Dan Lebatard Show, they had celebrities pick against Cowherd and they constantly beat him the guy who claimed Vegas odds changed based on his predictions.

I mean, I'm all in for trashing ESPN's professional idiots but punditry is synonymous with idiocy across the board. Look at how often financial experts are right about the stock market. O, or political pundits are right about anything in D.C.

"A record-setting eight teams have been selected to the 2018 NCAA Men'sBasketball Tournament. Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas A&M will represent the conference."
How many better teams didn't get in because the 4-letter network has an agenda to push? None of them won a sweet 16 game.
March 23rd, 2018 at 12:07 PM ^
Maybe he ment 16 as best and 1 as worst ........ that way he could be 4-0 right now

Just to get clicks.....

Well there's still one Kentucky player left in the tournament...
