seriously who did this?

We are back at the Residence Inn Ann Arbor Downtown which has a new conference room now that Notre Dame has one more Big Ten championship than Rutgers.

We Couldn’t Have One Without the Other

We can do this because people support us. You should support them too so they’ll want to do it again next year! The show is presented by UGP & The Bo Store, and if it wasn’t for Rishi and Ryan there would be VERY long hiatuses between podcasts.

Our other sponsors are also key to all of this: HomeSure Lending, Peak Wealth Management, Ann Arbor Elder Law, the Residence Inn Ann Arbor Downtown, the University of Michigan Alumni Association, Michigan Law Grad,Human Element, Lantana Hummus and Ecotelligent Homes

Syracuse is not a good basketball team. Josh Langford with 20% usage and 37 ORtg. MSU with 29 OREBs and still losing. Ben Carter ain’t Mitch McGary, Tom. Touchdown, Billy Taylor!

Texas A&M Preview

starts at 16:40

Bombed North Carolina so bad people thought we might rather face North Carolina. This is definitively not true: A&M is a bad shooting team that had a crazy good shooting night until UNC got desperate and allowed a lot of runouts. Good at running you off the line—they contest shots, don’t go for steals, rebound and shotblock well. Lost starting PG (the Marquette transfer) was lost at mid-season and replacement is an offensive hole with Rob Gray usage. They play the way they make you play: will challenge Wagner and Robinson in the post and try to get them in foul trouble. Get to 1 PPP and stop their transition and win.

The Rest of the Region

FSU: coach in the tournament who looks the most like a character from The Wire, spectacularly large big men with spectacular names. Xavier turned the ball over a ton, which was out of character for them. But it’ll probably be Gonzaga, who’s a much tougher matchup. Stretch five knocking down 48% of his threes. They’re all foreign, they’re all tall. Kentucky is the team it’s likely to end against if it gets that far. But start making shots guys.

Gimmicky Top Five: Worst Commercials during NCAAs

starts at 52:27

Difference of opinion on the Spike Lee, Charles Barkley, Samuel L. Jackson buddy film. I’m glad they brought up the awful lady who throws all her stuff out the window. Get Doris Burke. Insurances we can’t buy. Ace’s bloody Great Clips experience. Nationwide upper middle class white guy ballads because we’re all still singing “Nationwide, that kid just died.” Yelling “dilly dilly” is a very little brother thing to do.

If I was Jaren Jackson and someone asked me if I was leaving for the NBA draft I’d be like ‘I just played 15 minutes in an NCAA tournament game. Yes I’m gone.’”

Meta: for anyone using Privacy Badger, I had to move the slider for podbean.com to "block cookies" instead of "block everything" in order for the player to appear. Kind of weird - never had to do that before.

So much this.  Very punch inducing.

And yes, I'm aware this post may spur this very phrase.  Go ahead, get it out of your system now and never speak it again.

It's an incredibly stupid phrase, but damn, it's a good marketing campaign.  Anything, no matter how stupid, that ingrains itself into popular culture is a success.  Even I have to admit, that while the phrase is stupid, the actual commercials are pretty funny.  Personally not going to buy their product, but I don't think I'm their intended target.

I agree, dumb and annoying phrase, but genius marketing campaign. Can't imagine the amount of frat bros that have been deciding between a case of Bud Light and Miller Lite and said "Dilly Dilly" and grabbed the Bud...

When you essentially have an equal product, a good marketing slogan can be the difference that causes billions of $ in profits. i know it wasn't intentionally created by Netflix, but I wonder how many subscribers Netflix attributes to the phrase "Netflix and Chill". People don't say, "hey, you wanna Hulu and chill..."

That's because Hulu is terrible.

I think I'll find a new show to only watch the most recent 5 episodes of. There are a few I'll watch and they usually have the entire series, but trying to pick up something to binge when it's impartial is a pain, but Amazon has some of the same issues with missing or partially free series.

Damnit I need to turn off my ad blocker as hulu is angry at me again.

That being said, every month I say I'll cancel hulu and never do.

They had a good product when they focused on network TV.  Then the networks got upset and tried to claw all the traffic back.  Now I'm left with, "what are these shows, and who actually wants to watch them?", most of the time I browse through before switching to Netflix or Amazon.

Breaking down the pieces and fitting them into a whole, it looks like TA&M knows their PG stinks which is why they run the floor.  So rather than worry about Wagner and Teske vs. their post-up game, I'd swarm the passing lanes.  If the ball gets through, you're done -- just get a hand in the face and go for the rebound.  Don't get in a pit fight.  Otherwise, let the bigs get as close as they want to the basket.  Beat them down the court, trap the ballhandler, don't let anything through.

Let the bigs go 9-for-10 but no free throws, and just get your pound of flesh from Starks.  It's easier to make a bad guy worse than try to beat a mismatch that isn't in your favor to begin with.

In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is a classic.  I was always too chicken to try acid so I figure this album is the next best thing.

Will play the CD (old school) in my car Thursday on the way to work.  That will get me inspired for the game!

Go to listening on the way to football games:  Is This It? by the Strokes.

I love MGoPodcast and was looking forward to the Spartyfreude. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of listening to the Valenti rant from yesterday before this, so I had just bathed in a lake of Sparty tears. Don't want to link because it's Valenti, but it's easily found via the Google.

Thank you for calling out that NCAA commercial.  They play it in the arena too.  It drives me nuts; I didn't buy a ticket to an NCAA sporting event in order to be insulted by the people whose welfare the ticket purchase allegedly supports -- and, yet, here we are.

I don't think their message is very effective, though; before, I wouldn't have labeled them at all. Now, I label each of them "annoying." :)

About whether A&Ms defensive 3P% is just luck or some skill, it's just luck. Their 3P% on the season is 31.9%, good for 22nd best in the country. In conference play it was 36.2%, good for 12th in the SEC.

Don't get the hate. It is just a fun stupid little phrase you say when you are hammered with your friends. But man people talk about it like it killed their family.

Couldn't agree more.  I'm just like, who the hell is that supposed to resonate with?  Or is it just time for me to tell the kids to get off my lawn and start drinking?
