OT: WKU v USC - NIT 2nd Round

Submitted by MgoFunk on
Don’t get me wrong, living in Bowling Green, Kentucky my whole life I do love some Kentucky fun facts. But the crazy nonsense that Bill Walton is spouting off is a bit much. Is Mr. Walton legitimately insane? I thought he was a pretty normal dude until right now. While I love Mammoth Cave and especially the Bourbon Trail, I would like to hear at least something about the game being played since I’m staying up to watch it.

Bill Walton is much worse.

My reaction to hearing Vitale is either mimicking his voice, or being like "okayyyyyy man you said that already."

My reaction to Bill Walton is incessant cringing and praying that time moves as quickly as possible for the poor bastard who has to work with him that night.

I suppose he failed to remind us of the Pac 12's record in the 2018 tournament. Let's see:

  • 11. Bonnies 65-58 11. UCLA
  • 11. Cuse 60-56 11. Az State
  • 13. Buffalo 89-68 4. Arizona

Summarily dismissed... That's losses to two 11 seeds and a 13 seed. Only Syracuse marches on (LOL) as a team that beat a Pac 12 team. To add insult to injury, only Utah is still playing in the NIT.

I thought it was hilarious people thought USC got snubbed. I would have taken three more b10 teams before USC. Pathetic resume.

I missed his antics this time because St. Mary's was on at the same time. It doesn't help the Pac-12's credibility to have Walton ranting fiendishly through the big conference games, which is what happens when ESPN broadcasts them.

That said, sometimes his wrong headed hot takes are more entertaining than the game.

But I already feel sorry for you living in Bowling Green your whole life. Drove through there on a road trip to New Orleans once. We thought, a college town, should be fun. Finding alcohol was impossible. Then finding a party to crash was even harder.
We decided to keep driving.....

Bill Walton is the perfect example of what happens when you do too many drugs.  If you do drugs, you might end up sounding like Bill Walton when you get older.

Smoked pot before every game.  He was so wired before games he needed it to calm him down.  Wooden knew and was okay with it.  Got this from Walton's autobiography, which is actually not a bad read.  Jabbar's first autobiography is also a good read.  Both books have interesting takes on the Wooden legend.

And if you really want a "taste" of inner city hoops in NYC in the 1960's, including playing against the then Lew Alcindor, read Jim Carroll's The Basketball Diaries.  Warning: It is only a little bit about basketball.  Carroll wrote it as a teenager and became an instant underground legend.  He later released the song People Who Died.

That's it for book and album reviews today!! Back to my "day job!"
