SIAD: Wagner Consoling Houston Players
(Sorry If Already Discussed). Watching the Purdue-Butler game right now, and at halftime they were discussing Moe Wagner, and had video of him consoling a couple Houston players right after Poole's shot went in. I was too excited watching live to notice, I guess. Classy kid, great representative of UM.
FYI, no, he did not console Man-Bun. It was two other players, thank God. :-)
I really enjoyed watching Houston’s Corey Davis compete. And then he suffered this.
Man.
But then a classy move from Mo Wagner.

I saw this as well. I don't recall ever seeing a player do this before. Way to go, Mo. Leaders and Best!
ended and before he even started celebrating with his teammates. That was the ultimate classy move.
Double post
Saw that as well. The guys were not having any of it but it was done in a real genuine manner. I'm not sure I'd want to be hearing any of it in their shoes either but the gesture was one out of kindness. Good on Mo.
was Corey Davis, who guarded Jordan Poole on the final shot The second was Devin Davis, who missed the free throws that would have put the game out of reach. They were probably the two players hurting the most.
Devin Davis was standing behind the free throw line 45 minutes after the game. Hard not to feel for him.
Always better to be the consoller, not the consollee.
but it's worthy of its own. class act. not that floor slapping doesn't convey that same level of dignity, but i guess we don't recruit floor-slappers....
I think there was actually a whole thread on the topic (link below), but at this point it's been pushed halfway down the second page (for those who can even get to the second page!) and it wasn't readily apparent from the title that it was about the clip of him consoling Davis. So probably not a bad idea to post it again.
Plus, I think everyone is still elated today and is enjoying all the extra threads about the game!

First discussion was about him consoling 1 player. The CBS halftime showed him consoling two players. That brought a small tear to my eye, seriously. Sportsmanship is still alive.
Good German parenting also.
We approve of Wagner's mom.
Good German parenting, you say? That means something very different today than it did just 70 years ago! :-D
....especially to mouthy staee fans.
Floor slapping is not allowed in JB’s playbook.
Leadership.
Sportsmanship at its finest
The Michigan difference, Michigan Man for life
Try to understand
Try try try to understaaaaaaand
He’s a Michigan man
I love this but I also love Jordan Poole sprinting to the Houston bench.
Get yourself a team that can do both.
Good to see this gesture of sympathy for an opponent who played hard and earned respect.
One sees it in pro football too sometimes (perhaps between former teammates?). Always good to see opposing quarterbacks and other players exchange a few (hopefully congratulatory?) words after the game, though it undoubtedly takes time for the competitive drive to slow down a bit. Especially in younger players. I have always appreciated it in Brady, but maybe it is easier between quarterbacks since they are not on the field at the same time.
Regardless, well done, Wagner. Beilein gave a classy interview for good measure, even if it is what we have come to expect from him.
But I too am glad Poole's shot gave us the opportunity to make magnanimous gestures. Go Blue!
Class out. Love it. Reflection of Beilein and the team.
GO BLUE!!
I've always loved Wagner, partly because he has the same first name as my German-born grandfather. And, by the way, my grandfather loved Wagner's operas.
