Spike remembers Team 96 ..... warning: Freep link

Submitted by Wolverine In Iowa 68 on

Yes, it's a Freep article, but it's written by Spike Albrecht about his memories about the 2013 season with team 96, and is a good read.

In it, he discusses talking with Nik Stauskas before the season, the Final Four madness, and the Championship game, and gives a player perspective of how things felt from inside the team.

My favorite moment, hearing about the huddle after his performance in the Championship game:

Glenn Robinson yelled to the other guys, “I told you this white boy could ball!”

But he also goes on to discuss what it was like being part of something "bigger than ourselves" as part of the team.

I'll stop hating the freep when MSU/OSU fans stop bringing up the "sanctions" against M that their little vendetta brought about.....all over 20 extra minutes of stretching. Which is to say....never.

Their attempted hack job substantially damaged the program over accusations that turned out to be almost completely unfounded. It was personal. It was intentional. It was inaccurate.

Why, exactly, should I ever let it go? Just because some time passed? Have they apologized? Did they come clean as to what was actually driving them to intentionally drag the program through the mud and to vigorously pursue a non-story with the intention of causing as much damage as possible? Not that I know of.

It isn't like I actively seek out any type of revenge, but I see no reason why I would go out of my way to click on/anything they write, or provide them with any type of revenue....however tiny it might be. I don't delude myself into thinking they worry about my clicks either.

People can read whatever they want, I have no problem with that, but it doesn't impact you in any way to see a small amount of text that warns people who still object to the links, so maybe just let it go. It isn't "tired" to many of us and never will be.

Not to mention, I do still think it is the "policy" of the blog to tag freep links so people can avoid them if they so desire.

So, you do realize that stretchgate was carried out by someone who clearly had Michigan's best interests in mind. they wanted RichRod gone because he didn't exemplify Michigan, a position I held since the hire and that has been since confirmed OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again. I mean, seriously, besides his PAC12 coach of the year award, can you name ONE reason why you would rather have him still here instead of the Jim Harbaugh timeline?

I enjoy when there is a decent Freep article about Michigan or players, because I know how hard they try (thinking its sexy) to disparage Michigan.

It just makes it all the more of a satisfying read knowing that reality is likely even better.

this is so rich. if you actually dig into the number of positive vs neg articles... the freep and detnews create an incredible blue wall. they love michigan - it brings them clicks.

How about we just read things that are good, and not worry about whether there's a Freep link or not? I think we can assume Spike freaking Albrecht is not Michael Rosenberg.

It has to do with an "investigation" in 2009 that alleged that the football team practiced too much.  The story was published the week leading up to the start of football season.  Brian expressed his opinion on it and the board followed his lead for years.  This site needs to do away with the group think mentality.  Have your own opinions, people!

this is just a super dumb take. people aren’t pissed at the freep because brian said they should be, they’re pissed because it was a hit job unfounded in fact. i still haven’t opened a freep link since

that bullshit and it has nothing to do with brian’s opinion

They trashed Michigan for a cheap easy storyline and did some real damage to the program.

That's their prerogative, but they should not expect it to just lie there unchallenged.

We all make errors in judgment.  If they were to issue a retraction and an apology, I would certainly let it go.

But it wasn't just nothing . . .
