"If people don't appreciate it, f--- it. Teammates appreciate it, and the league knows how you play. That's more important. If people outside don't care, why should you care what they think?"

I will admit, I love this attitude and hopefully it translates to a more Cabrera-esque season in a year where we will definitely need that production to get at least a few games back.

It was sad to see them waste the starting pitcher rotation that season: Verlander, Scherzer, Fister, Sanchez, and Porcello.

Verlander was doing Verlander things, Scherzer was taking off to position himself as a future #1 guy (won the Cy Young that season), Fister was great, Sanchez I think had the lowest ERA in the AL that season.

It was one of the better pitching staffs I have witnessed. Oh, and Miggy was the MVP that year too.

Cabby could hit 50 home runs *which he won't,* but if we lose no one cares unless we bait someone into trading for him if he has 25 dingers and 75 rbi by the all star break.    Tigers suck and need this attention to get some trade offers.    Hope we can dump any that some want for prospects and have a decent team in 3 to 5 years.

play .500 ball this season, let alone be in contention for a playoff spot. But seeing a healthy happy Miggy on the field again for the Tigers will be a treat in and of itself---if he can stay healthy, that is. Miggy is a special talent, a ballplayer a cut above nearly everyone who has EVER worn the Old English D. Here's hoping he can return to that level even if his team can't.

I am feeling very "meh" about the Tigers heading into this season. Really, the only things I'm hoping to see are:

  • Improvement from Fulmer and Norris - for Fulmer, it's moreso maintaining what he did last year. Proving that wasn't a flash in the pan (I don't think it was). For Norris, it's more realizing his super high potential. If both these guys step up, we will have a very good top 2 SPs to build around.
  • A breakout year for Castellanos - I keep waiting for it to happen, and I think he's poised to finally have that happen this year. He made such excellent contact last year, and he hits so many line drives, it's just a matter of time before that starts being reflected in his stat line.
  • Can we find some reliable arms for the bullpen? That has been such a trainwreck for multiple years now, I just want to see 3 or 4 guys emerge as dependable pitchers here.

Anything above that will be gravy. But the Tigers will be bad this year.

I've been hoping for that too, but he's already well into his playbook of trading off the future of the franchise to win now.

The pile of talent they had coming up a few years ago is largely either a) up on the Big League club (or nearly so) or b) traded off already.

So while they have the pocketbook to swallow his salary (or much of it), I don't know that they have the assets to send back that would make it worth handing them our hometown hero (if only from a PR standpoint).
