Coach Painter and Purdue.  Well coached team, play hard and have lots of seniors.  Good luck to them in the tourney. But

Go Blue.

Yesterday definitely felt like we were playing with house money.  I wanted us to hang another banner, but if we were going to lose, I wasn't going to be too upset losing to Purdue.  I have a lot of respect for Painter and what he's done there.  Best of luck to them in a couple of weeks.

game of basketball to watch.  Haas is fun to watch, with his power combined with finesse.  Hard to be mad when a guy turns and throws in a high bank shot. The guys on the outside all have nice handles with quick release shots.  No one on their team stands out as unlikeable.  I think they mirror their coach a lot.  Very little complaining about fouls (they also don't foul a lot, which I like too).  I am definitely rooting for them in the tournament.

Compared to state, who calls out how tough their team is, and how they out tough opponents, and how he complains about every call, you see his players do the same.  They complain about every call that goes against them after hacking and bumping like crazy. And then give very little praise to the other team/ coach.  I love the Beilein never does or has to stoop to his level.  Unless state is in transition, their offense is not very interesting or fun to watch.

Stuck in Lansing

Izzo is my least favorite, I have to deal with the cult of Izzo on a daily basis. The rest of Lansing doesn't seem to care that Beilein is 9-7 vs Izzo since he completed a recruiting cycle, and two of those losses were with Walton and LeVert injured. The screen name checks out the cult of Izzo must die. MSU Izzowned by Beilein.

I have zero beef with Purdue this year. Great team, great scheme, full of character and flair. I will be cheering for them to go deep into the tournament.

Beilein vs. Painter has been probably the best coaching matchup in the B1G for the last couple of years, and I think that'll be the case for years to come. Nothing but respect for Painter and I hope we meet up again in the tournament!

and develop their guys properly...Izzo is lacking in this department.  I think State comes out stronger earlier in the season where athleticism is still ahead of scheme and teamwork, but well-coached teams gain on them fast come February and March.  To be fair, it seems like a relatively recent thing; maybe all the distractions of recent years, maybe he lost some good assistants, not sure.  But Beilein is WAY better at it than he is.

Give them their due, they won 13 straight after we beat them in January.  They were playing fine.

As for coaching, the strength of Izzo, K, and others like Miller and Calapari is recruiting and out athleting other teams.  Beilein actually schemes and plays different offenses and defenses based on the opponent.  It's pretty nuanced.  Izzo's idea of scheme is "let's go inside more" or "let's shoot more 3s".

I only hope MSU is able to out-talent teams the first weekend and get some mojo back - looking at you, Langford. Also, I hope MSU avoids teams with talented stretch 4/5s because it takes out the shot blocking of Jackson Jr since he now has to play one on one instead of lurking and helping late to get blocks because Ward is too slow/lazy/pouty to defend that type of player.

Izzo made a mistake in going for the national 5 star and one and done type players. But more so,
he's getting outcoached/outplanned by Beilein the last 5 years, and he doesn't seem to want to admit it. Also, Beilein is really hard to dislike.

I'm fine with getting beat, even by a rival, but to dismiss your opponent and not learn WHY you're getting beat is what is totally frustrating as a fan.

Go B1G in the tournament.

And to be fair, your last paragraph is similar to the football side on our end. Maybe it is mostly a fan base thing, but it seems like every year we expect to play the Spartans and win, and over the last decade or so, it just hasn't been the case. Past successes tend to stick around for too long in rivalries, and as of late, it seems like the school that is supposed to be dominant at their respective sport has been getting out schemed and out worked by the other side.

They got Carson Edwards back, but many of their best players are Seniors. I hope Purdue makes a big run in the tourney, and somehow we both get to SA. From there, they gotta go down lol. Don't want to see them again in the championship, don't want to play them a 4th time.

If you're gonna be "short", you damn well better be able to handle the rock, shoot the 3, distribute, and drive to the hole.  I question his ball handling ability and his ability to set up other players.  I do think he is very solid in the other two aspects.

Everyone is a bad tourney team, until they're not. Look at teams like Villanova, who are had a history of upsets in the tournament. Then they won one and people don't talk about them that way any more.

Speaking of Purdue views on Michigan, here's their blog on the game

A lot of complimentary comments about Michigan, Beilein and our fans.

Some choice comments:

Michigan is the best coached team in the Big Ten and they have a developing stud in Simpson. They played with a palable swagger all weekend long

Played each other 3x. Michigan looked like they knew where we would be and PU looked clueless, walking aimlessly around on D

Seriously. We kept it close at the half and then, Beilein, shock shock, adjusted and they turned the jets on in the second half. I’m glad AFN turned it off with 10 minutes left.

Was talking to folks – Sounds like there is a huge Michigan Fan base in that area. That or they traveled. There were a LOT of people sporting Michigan colors there this weekend.

it was the same in DC last year. I had to skip it this year. But last year Michigan traveled. Say what you will about them but they show up for games.

We got them today. Good team, respectful players. Case in point, Livers cranks his ankle and grabs first arm he sees, its Carson Edwards. Carson not only holds him up, he says something...I’m guessing like “i got you”.

Now what would sparty do? Probably hit him in the face.

Best of luck to Purdue.
