Better to be a 5 than a 6.  The 5/12 thing comes up because it's often a power conference team that's trending downward vs. a minor conference champion that's trending up.

Michigan has been playing its best basketball of the season.  There's no reason to fear the #12.

Those teams sneak up on you remember we struggled against Iowa. This team comes big in the big games but tends to fall asleep against lesser opponents

Michigan's stuggles against Iowa had nothing to do with falling asleep and everything to do with having to play Izzo's patented "weird guys."

Of course Michigan could be upset in the tournament -- anybody can, which is why it's so popular in general.  But the higher the seed, the better the chance to win the thing. both because good teams are rewarded with good seeds (correlation) and because poorer seeds are generally poorer teams (causation).

By your argument, Michigan should be hoping to be a #13 seed so they can get a really brutal path to the Final Four. :)  I'll pass...

Meanwhile, Bill Raftery, upon seeing Dan Dakich in the stands: "He's not comfortable without a microphone. <pauses a beat> Offending someone."

The man is a treasure. :)

by what Pat Chambers has slowly built.  Fighting a culture of bad bball is tough to break, especially with Villanova at a peak.  He has to capitalize on Pitt being horrific while he can.

Can't stand either program. I guess PSU? Not sure I want them to Make tourney, so winning by clinch that. Tough decisions.
