Insane ending to #1 Virginia @ Louisville
For anyone here who still loves to root against Louisville (AKA all of us), some serious insanity went down to cost Louisville the game tonight on their senior night.
Virginia, down 66-62, is fouled on a 3 with .9 left. They hit the first two and intentionally try to miss the third but are called for a lane violation. On the ensuing inbound Louisville's Deng Adel tries to run the baseline, which is not allowed after a lane violation, and thus a travel is called. With .9 left, Virginia inbounds the ball under Louisville's basket and bank in a 3 to win it at the buzzer.

Insane. Fuck Louisville.
Indiana is down 5 to Rutgers with 9 minutes left despite being up 24-8 in the first half.
So they are going northwestern.
You never go full Northwestern.
....we almost did kinda, sorta....
Why were the pants so bright. I think my I have permanent damage to my retinas now.
....adidas and their "highlighter yellow" color palette.
There's not much light on the surface of the M00N.
MARCH MADNESS!!!
They were being blown off the court at the start and have somehow come back. I hope we don't play them in the championship game. Tough rival
No. 1 Virginia was down 4 with under a second to go ... and won.
Yep, it’s officially March. pic.twitter.com/yZR0OtFyTv— ESPN (@espn) March 2, 2018
In 0.9 seconds
They were lost
That was one of the most remarkable endings you could ever see! And anytime the fighting Rick Pitino’s lose, that is a cause for celebration. I smile every time that I think about Coach Beilein defeating little pitino in his final game.
that was not nearly as insane as LeBron's behind the back through his teammate's legs dribble drive tonight

I predict we'll do away with them rather easily.
Did LeBron try to do that?
It was pure luck but spectacular luck.
live with sound off listening to music and thought I was seeing things. That was amazing and crazy. The announcers must have been drooling over LBJ then, but that was a heckuva play. End of Virginia Louisville game epic too. Thank you both.
I'm not really a LeBron fan but holy hell! How did he do that?
I believe that it happened, but I refuse to believe that's what he intended. No way. He probably had a little less space than he thought and just dumbass luck guided the ball through. If they tried to make a move like that in a movie scene I would balk at it and laugh at the preposterous silliness.
So louisville - aka hookers & blow U - goes down, seems about right!
Providing their own version of the death penalty to Louisville :)
Good. Screw that whole cheating program
Wow. You can truly never leave a college basketball game early. I always chuckle when I see fans leave when the game is still in doubt.
I love it! But there’s no way Virginia is a legit Final 4 threat. If I were Sparty, I’d gladly take a #2 seed if it was in the region where Virginia was #1.
always draws UVa because they are always a fraud and sparty is too, but one of them has to win that game.
Their defense is historically great with .84 PPP for the season which is bonkers.
What is that assessment based on? Parroting talking points from some low IQ sports radio show? You do realize UVA beat mulitple great ACC squads on the road and are #1 in KenPom and RPI? Last night they didn't play against a good Lousivilel team on senionr night, but they didn't luck into a 27-2;16-1 record with an average margin of victory in the double digits. Do a little research or maybe watch a game.
An acquaintance of mine tweeted that even he, a Kentucky fan, felt sorry for Louisville after that.
That makes one of us.
good, fuck stripper U. go rutgers.
And VACATED louisville's win. Unbelievable. Can't wait for the dance.
GO BLUE!!
I just hope they still make it into the tourny
I want to meet them again in the championship game
& this time,
destiny goes right.
Eat them in one gulp.
Go Blue!!!
what kind of a moron fouls a dude shooting a 3 while up 4 pts with 3 sec left? the clock runs out if you just stand there. then, why even pass the ball near your basket at the end. just throw it to half court with 0.9 sec left. impossible to get a shot off.
their coach and players are idiots.
Pretty much this. It amazes me the dumb shit these guys do and they've been playing and coaching the game all their lives.
I have these same thoughts every single time Michigan is in a position like this. With 0.9 left, just softly lob the ball at your tallest player, standing at mid-court (or heck, even farther), and have him try to set the thing like a volleyball, as high in the air as he can. Even if you turn it over in that situation, it's going to be *impossible* for the opposing team to gather the ball and shoot it in 0.9 seconds. If your guy sets it, 0.9 will elapse before the ball hits the ground. Even if it just grazes him, 0.9 will elapse before the ball can go anywhere. And even if the opposing team somehow flies in and intercepts, their only option is to immediately chuck a half-court shot without even really being able to come set. UVa's only real shot is to force a turnover without any time running off, like a five second violation. All you have to do is make sure that one thing doesn't happen, and it's *so* easy to do that if you just think about it for even a split second.
AND IT'S NOT EVEN THE DUMBEST THING THAT HAPPENS IN THAT SEQUENCE BECAUSE WHO THE HELL EVEN CHALLENGES A THREE POINT SHOOTER WHEN YOU'RE UP FOUR WITH UNDER A SECOND LEFT!?!??!?!?!?!??!??!?!??!?!?!??!?!?
Glorious. Fuck Louisville.
On the other hand, if you try a long pass and it goes OB without being touched, the other team gets the ball where the pass was thrown from. Not where you want UVA to have the ball with 1 second left.
Side note: those announcers were terrible, and I feel bad for anyone who has to listen to them. That was brutal, and it was just 20 seconds.
IU’s defense made Corey Sanders look like a Naismith award winner. Hilarious start to the Archie Miller era at IU.
Now I suppose Archie Miller has to be fired too. :)
Please keep him
I thought the “rule” was you needed at least a full second to catch and shoot. Anything less than a second would only allow you to tip the inbounds pass.
I think it's 0.3 seconds.
0.3 to catch and shoot, less than that requires a tip
unless you're Rick Pitino. Then "just the tip" is measured in milliseconds.
that it has to be .3 second or more for it to count as catch and shoot, not 1 second.
Used to be 0.8. Now apparently 0.3. A bit odd and seems a drastic change that they went a whole half-second for the chance to "catch and shoot".
What the hell is a whole half second? It’s either a whole second or a half second.

Thanks for asking though, I understand it was a difficult concept.
