Minnesota has to fire Pitino
Can't see how Minnesota can retain Coach Richard Pitino after the way they imploded during BIG play.
Louisville needs a coach.
(first time post, be kind)
Getting fired over Lynch was my first thought, as well.
Has there been any update to that? Last I heard, he was barred from campus (as far as I can recall), but still allowed to remain with the team and practice. It seemed like there was a pretty vocal outcry over that situation that dissipated pretty quickly.
Lynch gave up his appeal, maintaining his innocence but saying he realized he had no hopes of winning an appeal, so he is expelled from the school now.
Although, the random thoughts of MGoBloggers who have first consumed copious amounts of alcohol can SOMETIMES go over rather well, but only because they are often so disjointed as to be incomprehensible. I usually like to leave those up if they are truly astounding, just to see if the OP revisits the thread the next day.
Hadn't heard that about Loyer's knee. That sucks for him, hope he has a full recovery so that he can continue to get abused by DeJulius in college. Tangentially related, that means David has to have locked up Mr. Basketball, right?
I say keep him there. He is a terrible coach and I enjoy watching Beilein beat him.
there are plenty of bad coaches willing to go to Minnesota and continue to drive their mediocre program. The beatings will continue...
that he gets his shit together and then where are you. Better to have a few more years of upheaval while the next hapless a**hole lines up his ducks.
Gotta say, though, that Minny looks like it might be about as unpleasant a place for women as MSU. Another one to strike off the list of schools for my daughter.
Not according to the NCAA they didn't. (They had to vacate it - there was that person who was doing papers and coursework for players, plus some financial benefit shenanigans)
"Wait, every other state that has power 5 schools is shrinking in population?....there's no way that's right........................oooooooohhhh"
and they just completed a basketball only practice facility, imagine not having that!
Northwestern had never (!) made the tournament before last season. They had no history at all.
Minnesota OTOH has been generally middle-of-the-pack, with the occasional strong team. Their bigger issue is that they seem to be perpetually kind of shady, having off-court issues (or on-court) every now and then.
I fully acknowledge I'm not a bball savant but every Minnesota game I watched both last season and this season seemed chaotic.
I guess I'm just not impressed with the boy king's coaching ability up there or approach. They just literally threw junk at the rim and sold out for o rebs to get points, I couldn't see much a semblance of coaching at all unless he said "there's the basket, get on your horse, attack, don't worry about shot quality just throw it up"
Their 5 seed last year has been roundly discussed here and by the guys on multiple podcasts, this season they lost one of their better players to expulsion for multiple sexual assaults. Do they even have a semblance of a team anymore? Their game against us at Chrisler looked like their best played game all season, he may get another year but what hope lays on the horizon?
I'm negging you for showing weakness. You have to come in strong on this board, no "first time post, be kind" fluff.
4 of Minnesota's top 6 players were unavailable for all of a majority of the season due to injury or suspension. I think that's a relevant factor in what happened to the team. It's somewhat similar to losing 2 QBs and an OT.
Is it really that hard to create a good post if you've never done one before? Post a link to an interesting and relevant article. Post some sort of data or well thought out and explained opinion.
Don't post a 1 sentence hot take. People have to have seen tons of posts like this get destroyed, do they really need to have one of their own destroyed before they can learn how to write a good post?
So you think Minnesota needs to fire him, and that Louisville would then hire him? That makes little sense. Why would Louisville hire someone who was fired from Minnesota? Not to mention, I would assume they would want to stay away from anyone with the name Pitino after everything.
I hope so, I think. Heck I dont know anymore.
The Lucia move is fascinating. On the one hand, he has won two national titles and has a host of other achievements. This isn't major college football, so firing a coach who makes NCAA tourneys for cause is exceptionally strange.
On the other hand, this is Minnesota, which should be fighting for a 1 seed every year and winning national titles, and they've been cleanly passed not only by arch-rival North Dakota but also by Saint Cloud State and even UMD. When you're only the third or fourth best program in the state, something is wrong. In fact, the only reason things aren't worse is that Minnie joined the B1G precisely at the moment that three national powers went through historical bad periods at the same time. He should have been fired years ago.
I could care less! For all intensive purposes thats what i meant. Hopefully this gives you piece of mind despite your deep seeded hatred for me
It bottles the mind to see what kind of posts have been posted here lately.
Sober koala's cannot spell.
It's a pretty reasonable take. I mean, up to this point, 100% of all coaches who've lost to Rutgers in the Big Ten Tournament were relieved of their duties the next offseason. I sort of feel like that should be a thing -- "Welp, you're obviously not qualified to coach at the D-I level. You lost to Rutgers."
They were overseeded last year and ranked too high this preseason.
Before the suspensions and injuries, they were no better than what Nebraska is right now. They almost lost to a team down to four players when they still had a full roster.
A healthy, full roster would have still made the tournament, but I don't think they would have contended for a conference title.
Yeah, they were actually underdogs per Vegas as a 5 seed last year. MTSU was ranked ahead of them in the AP poll too. One of the weirdest decisions the comittee has ever made.
Also Alamama was down to THREE players and still outscored the Gophers.
I can't really think of a larger indictment of a coaching staff than getting outscored in a 5-on-3 situation. How does that possibly happen?
I'm guessing that they probably don't practice the power play very often in his practices. :)
I watched the game live and it really wasn't as shocking as it sounds. The gophers tried to sit on a double digit lead and run out the clock, but Alabama's prayer 3s kept dropping in until they were within 3. Minnesota then their started running their offense again and won comfortably. It was embarrassing, but the game was never in much doubt.
