Discord server for Michigan game live streams

Submitted by MGoArchive on

Hi there - I'm going to be offering live streams for games, starting this week for the basketball/hockey.

There are some adverserial people (fuck you - OSU/MSU/Big Ten/NCAA) who also browse this board - fortunately, I've developed a few mechanisms to circumvent this.

1) Links to the stream will not be posted on MGoBoard. Do not post the links to the streams on the board to other users. Direct them to the Discord server URL.

2) The link to the server is https://discord.gg/VEdcKTr

3) Join the server, state your MGoBlog username and copy/paste a URL to a comment in a prior post you've made on MGoBoard.

4) You will be messaged a phrase to edit the post you've provided, and include the set of characters/phrase you were messaged.

5) I will go through your post history and see if you're a MGoBoard regular and can be trusted.

6) If you follow steps 5/6, you will be messaged a stream URL on the Discord server.

7) The stream URL will be new every game. Once you've been verified once, you're on the trusted list and are good to go. You'll be messaged a new URL for the stream for each game.

8) If this gets popular, I'm going to need some volunteers to help with the moderation of new users.

9) Feel free to join the server now and start the verification process. I'm at work so the response to your posts will be delayed. I'll probably get back to you sometime after 5pm EST.

10) Do not post the stream URL in an MGoBoard thread - if you do this, the streaming rights associated with your MGoBoard username will be revoked - there is no tolerance for this.

11) This authentication mechanism was used by the NSA to communicate with the Russians - https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/feb/10/nsa-used-twitter-account-tweet-secret-messages-mea/

Thanks.

Check back here later tonight, we'll do a dry-run for the Illinois/Iowa game.

This is a very generous offer. However, you may find it counterproductive to have such a time-consuming protocol for admission. If you cannot tolerate the presence of *any* rivals, then this is fine, but the cost may well be a painfully low M fan turnout. My opinion is that rival hypersensitivity is not worth that.

If you admit rival fans come here, why do you think this will prevent rival fans?  Do you just think rivals don't post or won't bother with the process?  Why do you want to keep rivals out?  Do you have live threads that they clutter with annoying comments?  Are you afraid they'll run to the feds?  Frankly, I"m a liitle surprised the purveyors of this site would leave this up.  Anyway, i would have loved this service before every game was on National TV or if I was out of the country.  Anyway, good luck and thanks for bringing M football to more people.

Discord could be a good tool for that. MGoArchive could create a text channel that only he can post in for Torrent links. Then if you know you're going to miss a game, you can open Discord up to that channel ahead of time so that you don't see any spoilers in the main channel, and download the torrent once he posts it.

Once you've been verified once, you're on the trusted list. You'll be messaged a new URL for each game. So you won't need to do this every time for a new game stream. But new Discord server joiners will need to do this initially to verify their identity.

Discord includes these silly messages when people join the server (I've turned that off now) - that's not what I'm looking to have your posts edited to. I (MGoArchive) will private message you a phrase to include on your posts. But I need you to be in the Discord server for you to receive this message. But I have to go back to work now, so I'll reply to your messages later today.

Over the years, a woman assembled a scrapbook of hockey photos and often took that scrapbook to autograph sessions so her hockey heroes could sign the book. One day, after waiting in a long line, she shows the scrapbook to Rocket Richard. He seems impressed as he flips through the pages of pictures and autographs while she expalins how she put it all together.

Things were going well until the Rocket abruptly stops and a stern look crosses his face. Pointing to a Ted Lindsay photo and autograph, he declares, "I will not sign anything that has already been signed by that son-of-a-bitch."

Thanks MGoArchive! Cut the cord a few months ago, and luckily the cable guy was too lazy to turn off the cable so i'm good at home, but streaming the games while at work is something I miss!

I know I might not have enough post to be trusted, but thought I might as well give it a try. I have probably only posted 2 or 3 times over the years, but I've been reading the site from almost the begining. I was here before Brian quit his old job to go full time.

Thanks, Paul

If you see something in the window, want it, but its overpriced, you don't get to steal it.  You think this game is not worth a $7 a month monthly subscription, that is fine, and you may be correct.  It doesn't entitle you to steal it.
