Big Ten Tournament Bracket official - Michigan the 5 seed

Submitted by oriental andrew on

We already knew Michigan was the 5 seed since Nebraska won their game against PSU.

Now that Iowa has beaten Northwestern, the final pieces of the puzzle have fallen into place. Michigan will play the winner of Iowa vs. Illinois on Thursday around 2:30pm ET.

If we win, we go on to play Nebraska. Then it's whoever wins the 1 seed game (msu, btw).

EDIT:

And in a weird bit of parallelism (or something), Michigan women are the 6 seed in their tournament, also playing on the second day. Could potentially play Illinois (if they beat psu), then higher-seeded Nebraska on the third day, and potentially msu in the semifinals (if #10 msu women somehow upset #7 indiana and #2 Maryland - okay, it's a long shot).

Anyway, here's to the ladies and their success in their BTT also! GO BLUE!

I mean, I'm conflicted.  I'm certainly not going to root for MSU or OSU.  But Michgan's tournament résumé is still a little light on quality wins, and there are basically three quality wins avialable -- Nebraska is in quadrant 2 and isn't particularly likely to move up if Michigan beats them.  Due to the bracket, the most that they can get is two of them.

So, while having a bunch of lower-seeded teams win helps Michigan's tournament title chances, it really doesn't do much to bolster their seeding.  Michigan checks in as the #1 six seed on the bracket matrix as of noon today; while they might be able to get a 5 seed just through attrition if teams around them falter, their best chance at a 4 seed (or, if you insist, higher) is to pick up additional wins over MSU and OSU/Purdue.

It's more that we think that's how you view us. Probably because all of the posts that say MSU is a bunch of cheating fraud rapists, etc.

And yes, if your one game vs Nebraska was at the Chrysler you would be #4 seed for sure.

I honestly should know that, back when I was a kid I was there a few times (this was before I found out you couldn't be a fan of both in-state teams) and I remember Vosquil being my favorite Wolverine of that era because he played with 110% effort.

Don't kid yourself, it's basically how everyone but your fan base sees your 2 major sports right now.

But we'll wait for that conspiracy to be uncovered how the media is in cahoots to get your program. And we'll all eat our words.

I think our AD was a dbag and there's major issues to fix. But lumping in Nassar (UM grad btw) is lazy.

Dantonio and Izzo reported everything as required - after that it's not in their hands. Does the Ingham county prosecutor seem to go light on MSU athletes? Absolutely. But Dantonio and Izzo have no control on who gets arrested/charged etc.

Does MSU have issues to fix? Of course. But to blame the coaches like they have autonomy over the entirety of what happens in EL is just plain wrong.

I know you're trying to be friendly and cool, but now's a bad time for this. Right or wrong, most here feel MSU and East Lansing are a steaming cesspool of corruption led by imbeciles. Your line right there about how Izzo and Dantonio did what they were required to do by law is the exact same defense PSU fans have been screaming about Paterno for years. There is no benefit-of-the-doubt for you here. I recommend you ignore the topic or try again when this all cools down.

I get it. But just know I have no wishes to see your team implicated in any of this mess. Best wishes, good luck in the BTT.

Just know that our team won’t be implicated in any of this mess. And that’s because Beilein isn’t as morally bankrupt as Izzo, who basically announced in a presser a couple years ago that he was going to start paying for recruits. I’m not sure why anyone is surprised by this. MSU fans are the only ones who could look at a statement like “hey, we’re going to have to change the way we recruit so we can get the big stars,” followed up by the best class Izzo has ever had, and be totally blindsided by one of their best and highly rated players’ name on list of people who were shady and working with an agent

They're one of the few teams who has beaten Michigan this year, maybe that's the disconnect for you. That game is about the only thing propping up their at-large hopes right now and it'd be nice to pay them back and send them to the NIT. Our aspirations are fine. Thanks for your input. I'll add it to the log.

In return, I'll offer that MSU as a whole should aspire to report and prosecute rapes. But as you and I are proving, a rival fanbase's suggestion of what your aspirations should be are often disregarded.

MSU doesn't have the power to prosecute. But yes, any sexual misconduct charge should be reported to the NCAA and the local police.

Lincoln is a tough place to play. And yes I know, you didn't get a chance to avenge your loss - that's why I'm rooting for you to beat them: I want another crack at trying to beat your team. You guys are the defending champs and did beat us on our floor.

Penn St doesn't have the power to prosecute, either.

Dude, you're standing on the same hill the Paterno's and thier diehards fans are still occupying.  Is there enough space for all of you?

We really need to make sure the key guys (MAAR, Wagner, Simpson, Matthews) have light minutes in the first game and, if possible, the second game as well. Nebraska has looked pretty good as of late so I don't know how likely that is, but if our key guys can stay rssted that would help quite a bit going into a potential MSU game.

The #4 team in this conference is listed in exactly 1 bracket according to Bracket Matrix; the #5 team is knocking on the door of a 5 seed.  Thanks Delaney for your stupid desire to expand market share and unbalanced schedule!

Also, and I cannot stress this enough, but after watching Tom Izzo throw a hissy fit during his press conference, I hope every win of this season is vacated for them after they get bounced in the first round of the BTT and the second round of the NCAA tournament.  How that MFer can keep playing the victim card after the past month astounds me.  And for all the "Miles Bridges is a good kid" talk (and he seems to be a perfectly nice person), don't tell me he was dying to come back to that backwater cow college and play for this lilliputian asshole because of the love of the game.

He didn't want to talk about Bridges because he had just won a championship. And it's just his attitude, his unwillingness to recognize that sometimes it's not a conspiracy by multiple media outlets and the FBI, but the fact your years of being a shady-ish coach caught up to you.

I really can't describe how bad he comes across. It's just...he's an asshole and a thin-skinned one at that.
