OT - Pitino Awesomeness

Submitted by WolveJD on

First time post; neg away.

I’m too much of a Luddite to copy a screen shot on mobile, but if you scroll down today’s ESPN front page, you’ll see something...adorable.

There’s a link to a video of Pitino claiming the moral high ground...

1. In front of a canopy marketing the insanely-expensive mega law firm he had to hire to deal with his mess, and

2. In a video that ESPN justapoxed right next to an in-depth article outlining how he created said mess.

Plus 1 to the GT marketing folks for taking advantage of this rare marketing opportunity.

Rick...enter the cave, roll the boulder behind you and maybe stay there a while.

To think we almost hired him...

That's Dan "Big Cat" Katz in that video, though. He's not there to ask tough questions. He's there pretending to be a journalist and making light of the entire ordeal.

You guys are missing the joke.

It's almost like most sports journalists are afraid of confrontation and losing their jobs/access to a program, so they softball questions to guys who aren't even there anymore.

I know there are some good sports journalists out there, but I can't think of a group of people who have a higher view of themselves than the reality of the product they put out than guys who sit in on BS press conferences like this and think they are trying to get to the truth of the matter by letting Pitino ramble on for 5 minutes about how him hiring hookers wasn't a bad thing or helped recruit guys to his mediocre school in Kentucky.

They were just parties, fer Godsakes.

"Did a few of [the players] partake in parties they didn't organize? Yes they did," Pitino said. "But that had nothing to do with an extra benefit. That had nothing to do with helping their eligibility or performance in winning that championship.

"Those parties did not enhance our players' ability to win a national championship or go to a Final Four."

This - is hubris.

Thumbs up to espn for overlaying pictures of the prostitute parties over the audio of this press conference last night.

Thumbs down for the basketball analysts, who almost to a man were denigrating the NCAA for taking down the banners. Yes the games were played, but the simple truth of UL having players on the team who may not have been there buy for raging hooker parties, seems to allude them.

Just a theory- It’s because we have higher standards, it’s easy to poke at people with higher standards by using the standards against the person who holds them. We actually value integrity, so we get accused of lacking integrity and therefore overreact to compensate, and cave to the demands of the accuser. Our standards make us vulnerable. OSU or MSU get accused of lacking integrity and the reaction is pretty much “meh.” Thus, we are more likely to get accused of it, because the payoff is bigger for the accuser. You can see this play out in social or political settings all the time.

Vacating wins is not enough.  There needs to be some after-the-fact consequence for scumbags like Pitino to change anything.  Limit their scholarships for a couple of years.

Greenberg Traurig was Jack Abramoff's old law firm where he got popped for all the shady lobbying etc he was doing.  Good to see that they're keeping up the legacy.

Mr. Pitino: "Hey, what do you think about me being in Ann Arbor for a while?"

Mrs. Pitino: "I don't want to hear about any more of your whores. Especially in front of poor little Ricky!"

*Unable to convince his wife that Ann Arbor was not a whore, he gets on the phone and turns down the job*

Joe Paterno back in the late 60s. That has Pitino beat by several country miles. Paterno was having serious thoughts about leaving Penn State to come to Michigan but he opted out at the last minute.

As much of a slimeball as Pitino is, I would've rather dealt with the fallout of him hiring hookers for Michigan recruits than Paterno bringing Sandusky here and subjecting children to rape.
