It would be nice to get an OC who will stick around for more than one or two seasons. Don’t know if that would be the case if Mcadoo takes the job.

That is unrealistic. If we play like a premier program, our assistant coaches are going to get jobs other places. Are Ohio State fans in retrospect upset that they hired Tom Herman? Are Penn State fans in retrospect upset that they hired Joe Moorhead?

Get the best guy.

At the time of his hire at OSU, Herman had been quickly rising up the ranks through successively higher profile OC jobs.  It wasn't like he was a nobody that blew up out of nowhere.  Thus, iif you're OSU you've got to believe Herman is going to be successful (otherwise why hire him) and thus will very likely move on to a HC gig in relatively short order.  So really not that much different than McElwain or Kiffin except maybe you get another year out of Herman.

They did get 3 seasons out him. But yeah, I mean I partially agree when you look at guys like Durkin and Moorehead. I still think it's different taking a young hot shot and if pans out and gets a HC job, well then something good happened so fine, rather than taking a guy looking to kill a season before the next coaching cycle who may not be as vested in the position as someone trying to prove themself.

As long as you realize that your method relies almost entirely on fan knowledge. Most assistant coaches want head coaching jobs, if for no other reason than the pay. Head coaches tend to know that, and assume that their coordinators will move on as soon as they find the right job.

You knew that Kiffin wanted a head coaching job. Urban knew that Hartman wanted a head coaching job. Why is one preferable to another?

Your method of picking coordinators based on them wanting to stay here longer.

Fan knowledge was a poor choice. Should have been fan conjecture. Conjecture about which coaches want to stay coordinators and for how long. This is absolute nonsense.

I do blather, I’ll give you that.

With the fan obsession with “Michigan Men,” it would have been great for Carr to have developed a few assistants over the years that had potential to come back.

By the time Carr left, we had Les Miles, Brady Hoke (mediocre at best, even then) and Harbaugh barely had a resume at all, and it wasn’t really impressive yet.

Fast forward to Harbaugh’s tenure, and he’s had a few guys I wouldn’t mind coaching here in the future. Guys like Durkin and Fisch. They wouldn’t necessarily be home run hires yet, but they wouldn’t be terrible. Then guys like Partridge look to have that potential if their careers stay on the same track.

I agree with the general sentiment, but seeing as we could lose both Drevno and Pep next year, I'm fine with a one-year patch up job with a McAdoo or McElwain or McWhoever to get as much out of this team next year as possible.

After next year, then you could really shake things up in a way most of us had hoped for this year. Bring in a clear cut rising star OC and give him the reigns and let him bring a positional coach or three and hope he can stick around for a bit.

With no offensive line is not only a failure, it makes for some mundane-ass football. The rest of the world has adapted to the spread, there's no reason Michigan in its current formation should feel the need to play football like it's the 70's and passing is the devil (although last year, passing very much was the devil)

No want.  His last college gig was 15 years ago as a grad assistant at Pitt.

He basically pushed Tom Coughlin out the way with the Giants & took the team from a tight knit family to a toxic dump in 1.5 seasons.  He's seen as a major league asshole.  Kick the tires, but stay far away.

At his best it’s a dink and dunk west coast offense. At its worse he blows up a franchise and makes all they players resent him as well as each other.

He was awful. Reminded me of hoke incompetence

But really though, from what i can remember this past season after Speight went down it felt like alot of short to intermediate routes (high percentage throws). I can recall a 2 man route where the tight end was wide open and we missed him but thats about it. In my defense im trying to erase last year's passing game from my memory ASAP.

Coughlin didn't pick anyone to replace him. The g.m. brought in McAdoo as o.c. named him head coach after Coughlin got dumped. Coughlin went out kicking and screaming not voluntarily. McAdoo knows offense--he was hired from Green Bay and ran a prolific offense there. He had his issues with managing the team, but the Giants had the best offenses in their history under him. It was fun to watch when the o-line was good.

McAdoo spent two years as OC and the Giants offense went from one of the worst to one of the top offenses in two years.  Eli had one of his worst season prior to McAdoo to one of his best in years.  When the Coughlin was forced out, they promoted McAdoo, which made no sense at the time - who cans the HC but basically keeps the rest of the staff intact.  The hope was the guy that revived Eli and orchestrated a high scoring offense would push the Giants over the top... Needless to say, this did not work out well.

For some reason, as HC the Giants offense cratered, it was predicable, boring, unimaginative.  During the past two years, I dont think the Giants scored over 30 points and if they did, it was maybe once

He also has a confrontational personality and a false sense of accomplishment. He acts like Belicheck without the resume to back it up. Forget about recruiting. Zero charisma. On the field he is not flexible in his system. He doesn't adapt to his personnel and their strengths. They have to play his scheme no matter how bad it looks.

1. I think this would be a fine hire. He was actually quite good at coaching offense, but obviously being the head coach of NYG was way too much for him to handle.

2. He can't be worse than Pep and Drevno.

3. While I'm tentatively cool with this, I wish we were looking harder at innovative college coaches.
