Former LSU OC/QB Cam Cameron to interview for 10th asst. coach position at Michigan
February 8th, 2018 at 7:10 PM ^
Sigh …
Has he ever not been canned?
February 8th, 2018 at 7:54 PM ^
Canned Cameron?
February 8th, 2018 at 10:18 PM ^
What, is Scot Loefler unavailable?
February 8th, 2018 at 8:14 PM ^
That's at least something. Also he was QB coach when we went to a more pro-style offense, coaching Grbac and Collins. He did well here. Too bad that was about 30 years ago.
February 8th, 2018 at 8:17 PM ^
He wasn’t fired when he was the OC of the Chargers.
February 8th, 2018 at 7:11 PM ^
No. McElwain would be a much better hire. That's a weird thing to say, but it's observably true.
February 8th, 2018 at 8:51 PM ^
McElwain actually makes sense as an OC. I'm not sure why people think that's a GERG level disaster.
Cameron, on the other hand...
February 8th, 2018 at 9:00 PM ^
I'd rather have GERG.
At least he didn't lie about death threats and get strangely fixated on a naked man fucking a shark.
February 8th, 2018 at 9:34 PM ^
Come on man, it's one thing to make a joke about bestiality, but it's not even funny to joke about GERG being back on our staff. That's crossing a line.
February 9th, 2018 at 12:12 AM ^
How odd. You made a joke about GERG and bestiality and it did NOT involve his stuffed beaver.
February 9th, 2018 at 8:01 AM ^
I actually agree, man. I think McElwain is a decent to really good OC. He was really good at Bama. He got Colorado State to "good" level, which is a hell of an accomplishment given where they started. I think he's got good playcalling/concepts in him.
His problem is he can't be the fan-facing coach. He clearly can't handle the attention and drama that comes with running a big program. I think he can handle getting us 31 points a game though.
February 9th, 2018 at 9:59 AM ^
IMO McElwain is just looking for a stepping stone. If UM hires him I think he'll likely be gone in a year. Problably for a OC job at a lesser school out west, because we all know even if Drevno is out next year McElwain wouldn't be next in line for the OC/co-OC. You're right about Cameron though. I wonder if there are any other candidates being considered, because a little coaching staff stability wouldn't hurt us.
February 8th, 2018 at 7:14 PM ^
Hell to the no.
This would be cronyism to the highest degree. The game has passed him by and he hasn't been a good OC since maybe the late 90s. He was a big part of the reason LSU got sonsick of Miles despite a dearth of talent at RB, OL, and WR. Cameron never developed a quality QB either other than maybe Mettenberger.
February 8th, 2018 at 8:17 PM ^
I think you mean “glut,” not “dearth.”
February 8th, 2018 at 7:12 PM ^
We’ve got like 5 OC’s
February 8th, 2018 at 7:14 PM ^
No we have 1. Harbaugh is running that show. If you think differently you are naive.
February 8th, 2018 at 8:55 PM ^
Idk, it might be the fact that three different offensive assistants had "coordinator" in their title?
February 8th, 2018 at 10:08 PM ^
Yeah, but there's no Offensive Coordinators Coordinator.
February 8th, 2018 at 8:08 PM ^
we only need the one DC we have
February 8th, 2018 at 8:23 PM ^
....and I hope we have (ONE!) good OL coach. We use to be known for our OL, now we struggle mightly to pass protect - QBs get manhandled and we are just getting o.k. in run blocking. God, I hope we do not turn into a nebraska or tennesse.

February 8th, 2018 at 7:14 PM ^
Talk about a bunch of uninspiring, uncreative bunch we have on this offensive staff. I think our analyst from SD might be the best of the bunch.
February 8th, 2018 at 7:14 PM ^
I thought he already interviewed. Sam Webb talked about this a couple days ago.
February 8th, 2018 at 7:15 PM ^
Hahahahaha we’re so fucked.
February 8th, 2018 at 7:18 PM ^
Yea you're right. You guys are fucked cause Harbaugh and the boys are going to beat your ass in that toilet looking shithole you call a stadium. 11/24 can't get here fast enough.
February 8th, 2018 at 7:25 PM ^
Julian. I’m not an OSU fan. Funny how you don’t respond to my posts talking about how great a Michigan education is or about how it’s Engineering program dwarfs the Ivy League.
Funny how you don’t stalk me when it comes to talking about how Michigan basketball has a great shot at sweet revenge against a top ranked OSU squad come 2 weeks from now.
You just don’t like the manner in which I post. I can’t help you with that. I’m sorry.
February 8th, 2018 at 7:28 PM ^
Your shit dont phase me.

I like TPB too!

User name checks out -- definitely an OSU fan!
February 8th, 2018 at 7:15 PM ^
Can anyone explain the role of an offensive assistant? Or, why they even matter?
February 8th, 2018 at 7:16 PM ^
They watch film and advise coaches about how to proceed. They cannot however coach players themselves.
February 8th, 2018 at 7:27 PM ^
I believe what you're refferring to is an offensive analyist, this would most likely be a position coach gig.
February 8th, 2018 at 7:39 PM ^
My mistake. Need to read better. Carry on
February 8th, 2018 at 8:33 PM ^
It’s because Michigan isn’t hiring for a specific position. Whoever Michigan decides to hire, will determine which position they actually coach. Michigan’s staff is very flexible, so it allows that. For example:
Pep Hamilton has experience in both the NFL and college coaching WRs and QBs. He can coach either.
McElwain has history coaching both WRs and QBs. But he’s more known for his work with QBs, so he would likely focus on QBs.
Cameron again would be expected to focus on QBs.
Enos was looked at as coaching the WRs.
And that just covers the names we KNOW have been interviewed.
Basically “offensive assistant” just means that they don’t know whether they’re hiring someone to coach QBs or WRs, but simply that they’re hiring someone to coach on that side of the ball.
February 8th, 2018 at 7:15 PM ^
Wow no thanks
February 8th, 2018 at 7:26 PM ^
Is it McElwain or Cameron? I thought McElwain was already hired or offered?
If it's to be one or the other I think McElwain is the better choice.
February 8th, 2018 at 7:29 PM ^
Nobody has been hired yet, they're both interviewing for the same 10th assistant slot.

February 8th, 2018 at 7:20 PM ^
Fucking Maryland is getting Matt Canada and we are settling for mediocre, boring, uncreative OC's.
February 8th, 2018 at 7:24 PM ^
Exactly! No oc who is on the rise is going to come work for Harbaugh because they have no chance to flourish. Harbaugh will always get credit for playcalling. I can't believe everyone doesn't see this.
February 8th, 2018 at 7:38 PM ^
Also, Harbaugh is a strictly 1 jet sweep per game kind of guy, so Canada was never an option.
February 8th, 2018 at 9:06 PM ^
Is also possibly the "sex with wife through the tidy whity port" kind of guy.

February 8th, 2018 at 7:48 PM ^
Canada has made six stops in the last 8 years, and hasn't proven he can put together a consistent offense for more than one season, outside of his run with Doeren in the MAC. I don't get the infatuation.
February 8th, 2018 at 8:34 PM ^
Same. Canada is overrated.
February 8th, 2018 at 8:40 PM ^
i also heard that Canada wanted full control over the offense which was never going to happen with harbaugh.
February 8th, 2018 at 8:57 PM ^
That's fine for Maryland but how will he adapt to the American rules?
