Thankful to announce that I have received an offer and am committing to the Michigan Wolverines. Thank you God for giving me the opportunity to fulfill a childhood dream!! #GoBlue (PWO)

I'm so glad this kid got an offer. He's a huge Michigan fan. I coached him a couple years in AAU basketball. Great athlete with a big heart. He almost didn't play for my team because my colors were red & gray. That's how much he hated OSU. It's cool he gets to live his dream of playing at Michigan.

I didn't have a choice. It was the colors of the AAU club I was at. I eventually left and started my own club. We had some nice maize uniforms we wore for special games.

for take-off.

In almost all of Bo's writings he reserves a great deal of space to emphasize the importance of Michigan kids, both scholarships and the walk-ons. When any of them became a producer - a number of them have gone on to be starters for the maize and blue - they carved out a special place in Bo's heart and memories. They were an inspiration to the entire team.
At his signing of Tradition at the local Barnes and Nobles in Muskegon, I asked him about a walk-on from Muskegon Catholic Central who never played a down for him. Didn't take him a second and he responded, "Sure I remember _ _ _ _ _ _ _". When you think of the thousands of young men that played for him and the fact he remembered their names as if they were AAs for him, it gives you an idea of just how special they are, and not merely as fb players. Welcome to Michigan.

I wish this young man the best. He must love Michigan like crazy to turn down an Air Force education. Enjoy your dream my man.

He's actually from Shelby Township.
Common and annoying occurance is people calling Eisenhower and Ford "Utica Eisenhower and Utica Ford" when both are actually in Shelby Twp. and Sterling Heights respectively.
Utica alum here. Saw him smoke Utica in the first round of the playoffs in person. He looked pretty good and will be a nice scout team QB.
It's pretty cool when someone from the area goes to U-M. There haven't been many.

You're all from Detroit. Same difference.
February 4th, 2018 at 12:41 PM ^
People from Detroit would like a word with you

In fairness, a Yeti from Alaska would probably have a hard time with the subtleties of the Detroit metro area.
February 4th, 2018 at 1:56 PM ^
Subtleties of Chicago are also impossible. All I hear when my fiance and her family say Park Ridge is Chicago.

taught at Wayne for the first five years of my life; a Wayne IM field now lies where my old apartment building once was. (Then we moved to Flint; it was all downhill from there.) I cannot tell you all the nuances of actually being a Detroiter and calling yourself one--or distancing yourself from same, but--man--are they complex.
I got in a political argument with a friend recently and he accused me of making fun of him for years because he was from Huntington Woods. I swear I didn't even know that was where he WAS from, and had never given a crap. But he had some kind of complex I am still figuring out.

No you need to carry a one page cover letter with you at all times that describes how not-from Detroit you are and explains how sorry you are for even having the word "Detroit" in your demonym.

I live in northern Michigan and I can tell you for certain that the people who have lived here all their lives consider "Detroit" to be anything south of Flint and east of Jackson.

This is accurate

Sweet. I'm a native Detroiter, then.

My wife thinks that anything along a Great Lake is "Up North." We went camping in South Haven and she told people we were "Up North."
February 4th, 2018 at 6:05 PM ^
I'm fond of how "up north" is used to describe ones vacation time or spot. Kind of the same way Australians or British say "holiday." Find it charming, but agree sometimes there is a bit of irony depending on where you're going or went.

anything north of Saginaw was "Up North" for us.

if he was pissed that you were making fun of him for "years" and you didn't know where he lived, I'd say chances of being a friend were small. Pretty sure I know where all my friends live.

Both in that school district, try not to get annoyed at insignificant details.

If that were true Stevenson would be called Utica Stevenson but they aren't.

It's most definitely true.

Utica, Stevenson, Henry Ford II, and Eisenhower are all part of the same school district

You know why they get called Utica Eisenhower and Utica Ford sometimes? Because they are both part of the Utica Community School District.
February 4th, 2018 at 6:27 PM ^
Chieftain here too. Much older, but it was Utica Eisenhower and Utica Ford for me. I never heard of Shelby Eisenhower. Utica Community Schools. I agree they are not in Utica, but they are in the second largest school district in the State. Utica. We did say Sterling heights Stevenson. NOt sure why, just the way I grew up.

They had 61 commits in the last class. They aren't subject to the 85 and 25 man limits because they don't offer athletic scholarships. They still need to cut their roster down to a manageable size though, don't they?

I hear ya, but if he tore his ACL that might be a DQ. My son is seeking an appointment to the Naval Academy, and if my memory serves me correctly, an ACL tear is a DQ for the Naval Academy.

can't say enough great things about this young man.
One of the most productive dual threat QBs in the state until he got hurt his senior year. Over 1,900 yards passing and 900 yards running his junior year.
3.8 GPA and always wanted to go to Michigan. That is what I am talking about.
Love this PWO - hope he can make a real impact on the field. Regardless, I am betting he will be a great addition to the team.
Congrats Max - Go Blue!!!

He was really impressive his junior year of HS. They lost to Cass Tech in the state semifinals in 2016 after DPJ made an unbelievable, game winning TD.
Max is a tough and versatile kid. Go Blue

Did you two sit together or something? Must have been some catch.
February 4th, 2018 at 12:59 PM ^
You got into u of m, invited to play on the team, but no athletic scholarship?
February 4th, 2018 at 1:12 PM ^
Preferred walk-ons cannot get an athletic scholarship within the first two years of college, but they can receive academic scholarships. Preferred walk-ons are also guaranteed a spot on the fall camp roster, which has a maximum of 105 spots (85 scholarships + 20 walk-ons).
