OT: Update, MGoFund a hero
There is now a GoFundMe page that has eclisped $13,000 for Randall Margraves. The father who charged at Larry Nassar this morning.
If you have a moment, and some spare change, donate to the cause so that any fees or fines will be covered and then he can use the extra money on his three daughters who fell victim to Larry Nassar.
May he never buy another beer in his life, and may his daughters heal and find peace. EDIT: Mr. Margraves is now saying he doesn’t want any donations

at that SOB of defendant, but to be honest, the whole thing seemed a bit too "staged for TV." I've seen a few of these vids where a relative goes after the defendant, and most have a more genuinely spontaneous feel to them. This one didn't. I just doubt that happens if there are no cameras in the courtroom. The judge's behavior has been theatrical, and it's no surprise she's not the only one to take advantage of the media attention.

And if you watch the video, there's absolutely nothing like what you're talking about, this is a father who's overcome with rage. There's nothing that seems "staged" in any way.

not "staged" in the sense of "fake."
It seemed pretty clear from the back and forth with the judge that he knew what his lines were going to be and a plan for rushing the table. There were 3 guys between him and LN, he had to know there was no way he was getting there. Contrast with some other vids where they actually get their hands on the perp or come plausibly close.
Would it have been fun to watch LN get pummeled? Sure.

When he walked up to that podium. He made a choice and executed his intention. No one else in the room knew it was coming, but the officers were ready.
Glad he is not in trouble.
The person that is really looking bad right now is Shannon Smith, whose law practice is soley focused on defending people in sexual crimes. Her previous claim to fame is defending a person in a female genital mutilation case. This is from her website.
Her comments to WWJ are inexcusable. It is one thing to vigorously defend your client in a trial. But to say the women are making up those horrific tales, during the sentencing phase, is terrible. Not helping her client, just promoting the atmosphere that makes coming forward terrifying. shame on her.

That word has been watered down for the past 17 years or so to the point of being meaningless. Losing your shit in a hellish hearing is a sad, awful event. But nothing worthy of praise (especially since it raises the implication that the other parents should have been "heroic" and tried to attack Nassar). It's not brave, courageous, or beneficial. It's a cathartic act brought on by the rage Nassar created in the father by Nassar's hideous crimes.
Rachael Denhollander is a hero. She was the catalyst to bring this down, despite MSU's and US Gymnastics' utter failure to do what they each should have done long ago. (The other young women who came forth and testified against him were brave, and even heroic.)
This father is just another victim of Nassar, succumbing (understandably) to his baser instincts. I'm not saying whether I'd want to do the same faced with someone like Nassar - you never really know until you're in those shoes. I'm not condemning a guy who has already suffered immeasurably.
But he's not a hero. Not for doing this.

Has nothing to do with sympathy. He's not a hero, he's a victim, and contributing (and more so encouraging others) to a GoFund me because of his actions is honestly ridiculous. Beating up Nassar does nothing to help his daughters recovery, it does nothing to prevent this type of crime from happening again, it just satisfies some temporary emotion that has no beneficial result.
Nassar got the just punishment he deserved of life in prison, there is no need for a raging father to physically attack him. This is not how modern healthy societies function, and it should not be promoted.

Pulling someone from a car wreck/fire, saving lives during a shooting or natural catastrophe,etc.

I too can imagine if someone did this my daughters how angry and full of rage I would be. My family too, like many others, have been impacted by abuse.
But those who take the law into their own hands or who advocate for vindictive “justice” risk compromising the rule of law and, if this becomes more common, is a step towards fascism. We are already at risk of this after Charlottsville and the current volatile political climate.
We either are a nation of laws, or we are not. I’m am sad today and hope the victims of Nasser’s nefarious acts write the next chapter of their lives as heroes, instead of letting Nasser define their lives.
Today healing is on my mind and in my heart.

She also made it very clear that she wasn't at all pleased with the "theatrics" (to borrow Sopwith's term). She reminded Mr. Margraves of the penalties facing him as a result of his actions.

He knew what he was doing when he charged at Nassar. He ought to pay the piper and face any legal and monetary consequences that come with it. For all of you that will tell me “what if it was your daughter?”, that’s irrelevant. And even if it was, I’d still deserve to face any legal consequences for my actions.
Law and order are in place in this country for a reason. The cops did the right thing in taking him down, even if Nassar would’ve deserved the beating. Otherwise we might as well descend into anarchy.

Social media and financial support have poured in for a father who rushed Larry Nassar during his sentencing hearing Friday in Eaton County.
During the press conference Friday, Grewal said a GoFundMe page set up in support of Randall Margraves was not authorized and asked that it be taken down. By the end of the day Friday, about $16,000 had been raised. A GoFundMe spokesman said he was working with the organizer to ensure the funds were handled appropriately.
