MSU Burried Nassar Files During Title IX Investigation
Michigan State University, under U.S. Department of Education oversight since 2014 because of its mishandling of sexual assault and gender discrimination cases, asked federal officials last fall to end their monitoring of the university because administrators had been acting in "good faith" and had "gone above and beyond" in meeting standards laid out by federal officials, according to documents obtained by Outside the Lines.
The Oct. 17 request was rejected outright by federal officials for several reasons but in large part because of how the university has handled sexual assault allegations against former MSU athletics physician Larry Nassar, the documents obtained by Outside the Lines show:
-Michigan State administrators in 2014 did not notify federal officials that the university had dual Title IX and campus police investigations of Nassar underway even though federal investigators were on campus that year scrutinizing how MSU dealt with sexual assault allegations.
-MSU administrators still have not provided to federal officials all documents related to the Nassar allegations.

of Civil Rights investigation into how MSU handled sexual assault and gender discrimination cases ended with findings that MSU had fostered a 'sexually hostile environment' on campus."
Fostered.
I feel less and less charitably inclined toward MSC, MSU, anyone involved.

MSC?? Who is that?

I think he is lumping all short-haired female university presidents together and slandering the good name of Mary Sue Coleman?

We can take this request to committee. And since you've been here for almost two whole months, I'm sure your suggestion will be put in the "Really Important Ideas We Should Think A Lot About" pile...

You seem important, thanks.

We had a 5 hour board meeting and we spent about 10 minutes on that issue. There are so many other things going on right now.

About that pile....
You see, we used it as kindling for the fireplace in the Mod Room during the last cold snap. Tons of great suggestions in that pile actually - we read them as we threw them in. Shame they had to die in a fire the way that they did.

You can piss off, People's Shea. While everyone knows who Nassar is at this point and what happened over the past whatever amount of years, this stuff needs to be out there and people need to read or hear it. MSU should burn to the fucking ground for this negligence and criminal activity covering. Yes, I'm a little biased because I hate everything about MSU, but this goes beyond that. What happened there for years is unacceptable.

What are you talking about? There's always been fires coming out of East Lansing. Oh, I get it, you're not talking about the couch fires.
On a serious note, I'm glad this is happening. Whether I hate the school or not. This type of thing is just terrible and with so many victims something drastic needed to be done and I think it finally is. Hopefully the closure will only help the victims put this behind them and will allow them to move on and live a great life.

Interesting how the "new posters" (read:MSU concern trolls) strangely aren't comfortable with this.

This could all snowball and end really badly for MSU. Believe it or not, when it turns out that someone employed by your organization has sexually assaulted more people than anyone in the history of sexual assault (with the possible exception of famed rapist and super-great-grandfather to half of Asia, Genghis Khan), the authorities tend to start looking at all things directly related and not at all very, very carefully. Sometimes, this leads to big trouble from unrelated incidents (**COUGH** Appling and Paine **COUGH**)

I wonder if the cover ups for Appling, Payne, etc. will be uncovered. Didn't Dantonio basically drive Winston from jail to a game?
The DOJ should step in and fix some things up in EL. Their "Team MSU" vs. the world mentality has caused enough trouble. Time for it to end.

I'm really looking forward to the rationalizations that are about to run rampant across MSU blogs leading the collective meathead brahs to reach the obvious conclusion that Michigan is to blame for all their woes.
