Football Scoop (24/7 confirmed): Harbaugh offers position to Ed Warriner
This is interesting since Michigan is currently at 10, a sign that Pep is on his way out?

EDIT: 24/7 confirms he has interviewed as an Offensive Analyst: https://247sports.com/college/michigan/Bolt/Ed-Warinner-to-join-Michiga…

I just can't see that. It's inefficient, especially on offense where Harbaugh always uses a collaborative approach. If that was going to change, Warriner is not the guy I'd see him changing it for.
If there was any truth to the report, I'd think he was a backup plan if Drevno was leaving. That's looking less and less likely to happen.

His apology to the OL would not have happened if he was leaving. I do like the idea of a veteran O Line coach as a offensive analyst.

You've very, very, VERY obviously never been divorced. "Yeah, sorry for all those things I did. Bye."

that made me laugh... thanks...

It's so funny to me that so many people on this board are convinced with no evidence that Drevno and/or Pep are going somewhere else.
A lot of you are setting yourselves up for disappointment. Yet again.

big changes were coming? I don't look at this as being a big change. If Drevno and Pep stay, who does he replace and does this really change our offensive philosophy that much?

the osu game was the only game all year where i thought the playcalling had creativity like it did in JH's first year. then went back to bland in the bowl game.

i sure felt like it. i have no idea who called the plays in any game this year. i think it's weird that no one knows who is calling the plays for a team.

In 2016, we had Jedd Fisch. In 2017, he moved to UCLA. UCLA's offense this year (its one year under Fisch) improved dramatically (Greg Robinson to Greg Mattison level improvement on S&P+). Meanwhile, we brought in the OC from the Cleveland Browns (one of the worst offenses in the NFL), who had been let go from the Colts the year prior.

but I'm not sure you can blame Pep for how bad Cleveland was. Remember we got Jeff Fisch off of his OL gig in Jacksonville, which wasn't exactly an offensive juggernaut. Jedd's failure as an NFL OC on an offense without much talent was not an indictment of his skills, as he succeeded both here and at UCLA.
Pep? I don't know. Obviously the 2017 passing game he oversaw was atrocious.

There is some evidence that Pep may leave. Drevno does look like he is staying.

OSU fan here. I have no idea what Warriner is being offered, but at OSU, he was a GREAT OL coach. But he was a poor recruiter and a bad evaluator of talent. Also, he was not well liked.

Football scoop is usually verboten around here.

His positional background would suggest he’s a more natural replacement for Drev, so who knows I guess.
FootballScoop is sketchy. They’ve reported Things that have definitely come to fruition. They’ve also thrown some duds out there (Jim turned us down, Butch Jones is top target). They’re not as bad as ChatSports but it’s very much a “grain of salt” publication.
EDIT: Forgot to add, in addition to previously working under Meyer at OSU, he also worked as OL/RGC under Kelly at ND. This hire would make it two years in a row that Jim hired a coach (and specifically an offensive coach, and more specifically an OL coach) that previously worked for a major opponent on the upcoming schedule. At least interesting, if not insightful.

Feels like a Saban like move where if you know you're going to be losing coordinators and assistants annually, its in your best interest to stock the "analyst" cabinet full of replacements. That way they have time in the system and can step right in when someone leaves. Two his last four offensive coordinators (Sark and now Locksley) joined on as an offensive analyst before moving up into the full-time OC role. Even Kiffin kind of did that when he came in at the end of the 2013 season to review Alabama's offense. Just wasn't a need to make him an analyst because Michigan hired Nuss and then Kiffin took that OC job.
All of these changes this offseason feel like Harbaugh gave Drevno one more year to get his shit together, and if he doesn't he has two guys (Enos and Warriner) ready to step in and take over his coaching roles.
God knows how the hell Pep figures into any of this though -- especially if he doesn't leave.

Bobby Boucher if it meant getting Pep out of town.

Warriner has coached at OSU, MSU and ND. Would certainly be an odd fit.

Would certainly be an odd fit.
Your O-line stinks, and he's the best O-line coach in the conference. It's a great fit. If he actually gets to be the position coach, you should be ecstatic.
Guy certainly can recruit.
He seems to dislike recruiting and is bad at it. That was the main knock on him when he was Ohio State's offensive line coach.
His worst flaw is that he thinks he should be an offensive coordinator. We will "cackle with knowing glee" if Harbaugh lets him gameplan for you.
When Ohio State hired Tim Beck, there were a lot of Buckeye fans who ignored what Nebraska fans said about him, but it all turned out to be true. Trust interested parties who've had years to observe someone's performance.

Guy certainly can recruit. I'm hoping this means Harbaugh wants someone that knows how to run a proper RPO

Explained in more detail above, but it makes a lot of sense if Harbaugh gave Drevno one more year to get it together and if he doesn't, now he has two people on staff (Enos and Warriner) that can step into Drevno's roles and will already have player and system familiarity. Its a play out of Saban's handbook.
I mean, the offensive coordinator salary bump is already written into Enos' contract.

So we will have added a former MSU qb and former OSU OC. Hmm

Quite the downgrade if true

Maybe, maybe not. He was making $375k at Minnesota. Maybe they'll pay him like $400k with promises of something bigger if Drevno doesn't make it through the 2018 season. Basically the same thing they did with Enos.
