[Meta] Why are users with -800 points allowed to even comment?

Submitted by McDoomButt on

I'm really tired of these racist trolls peppering comments throughout every goddamn post.

Can we just make it so users with -100 MGoPoints or worse automatically cannot comment? And then maybe in the weird case where this was undeserved, they can be restored by the mods?

Your existence is an embarassment to the board. If you had any sort of morals or intellect you would be an embarrassment to yourself as well.

I sincerely hope you get some mental help, because you need it.

I wholeheartedly agree with this request as there has been a consistent troll posting in language that is obviously contrived and falls into a stereotype.

That said, maybe the guy with your avatar shouldn't be casting the first stone on this one.

I'm not offended, and I know it is from a comedy routine, just an observation.

Posted elsewhere: (1) take a piece of paper and write "1/16/2018, BIGGEST N BLACKEST mgoblog" on it; (2) take a selfie of you holding that paper, either with or without your full face in the picture; (3) go to imgur.com/upload; (4) click Browse find the photo you just took, which will automatically upload; (5) copy the URL of the new page that opens with your photo and paste the URL here. You won't do it.

As moderating is doled out in terms of actual ability to make / create / edit / etc...., we don't have the ability to do it in our arsenal. Now, I believe Seth has said that it is possible - I could be wrong there - but that the process in this interface was a pain in the ass. That being said, it might be time in the case of one of the people I know inspired this thread. Actually, it would be interesting to see who else disappeared at that moment too.

IP ban is not a solution. Most people do not have a static IP. Most have IP''s temporarily assigned by ISP. IP ban may hamper a wrong person and the perpetrators will be able to post as soon as the IP is refreshed.

You can do simple things like taking away posting previleges temporarily based on neg. Or better yet, require phone numbers to create an account.

Most people do not know how to reset their IP though and for the sake of it staying that way I won't mention how they should. Seriously the IP ban throws a lot of people for a loop. Operation Sports does it and the troll accounts they banned stay banned and you see less and less people posting stupid stuff. I don't care for the way they run thier site they are a little OD on some stuff but the IP ban works.

How about we just make a rule that any poster that has any variation on "BIG" or "BLACK" in their name not be allowed to post? Or "Maizen"??
